No. 32
Angie is sitting on the couch, adjusting her new clothes and trying to get comfortable. Stonie comes in and asks if she's all right, as she looks like she's in pain. Angie insists that it's just static from the couch. Stonie tells her not to get him wrong: she looks real nice, but she looks uncomfortable. Angie replies that you have to suffer a bit if you want to look stylish. Stonie smiles that she doesn't have to be comfortable round *there*: she should go and get into her trackies! Angie, however, tells him that this is what she wants, and for now, this is it!
No. 22
Danni arrives home and Lou tells her that the Arts College rang: they want her for an interview tomorrow. An excited Danni exclaims happily that she's through to the second stage! Cheryl asks what happens now and Danni explains that they were obviously impressed with her portfolio; she guesses they just want to make sure she's not a loser. Brett tells her that she'll have to go well in her exams, too.
No. 28
Susan is preparing meals for Karl while she's away. She tells Karl that if she knows they've got lots to eat while she's away, she'll feel less guilty about leaving them behind. Karl comments that not so long ago it was *him* carrying on like a pork chop. Susan tells him that she can't help worrying, and she asks Karl to please understand.
No. 30
Cody heads into No. 30 - to find Adrian sitting at the table in the kitchen. She asks him curtly how the hell he got into her house. Adrian tells her that he had a key cut. Cody growls that they're not friends anymore and she tells him to hand it over. Adrian takes the key out of his pocket and puts it on the table. Cody picks it up and snaps at him to get out of her house and stay out. She heads to the front door. Adrian follows and tells her that he came there to help her; he wants to help her pass the year. Cody snarls that she wouldn't want his help if she was drowning in quicksand. Mark suddenly appears in the doorway and asks if there's a problem there. Cody tells him that Adrian was just leaving. Adrian looks at Cody and tells her coolly that he'll see her at uni.
No. 22
The next morning, Danni comes downstairs dressed in a smart suit and asks her mum if she'll make an impression. Cheryl nods that she definitely will! Danni then says in a pleading tone that it'll make more of an impression if she arrives in Cheryl's car... Cheryl gives in, but warns her:
CHERYL: You scratch it, you die!
Danni picks up her things and runs outside ecstatically, leaving Cheryl to comment to Brett that it's so exciting to think that he and Danni are both embarking on their tertiary education. Brett sighs that he's got his English exam tomorrow. There's suddenly a knock on the door and Lou opens it to Stonie. He steps inside and tells Cheryl that he's there to talk to her about his mum's new image.
Holy Roll
Karl is sitting at the counter, reading a magazine. Angie hands him a coffee as Kate Cornwall comes in, looks at the magazine and smiles:
KATE: There I was, hoping you'd bought a copy of 'Emma'!
She and Karl move to a table and Karl asks Kate how she's feeling. Kate replies that it's time she made her next medical appointment. She asks Karl if he can fit her in before lunch, as she was thinking of having a picnic down at the beach and was hoping he would join her. Karl smiles that he did say he'd have lunch with her. He then adds, though, that if they're going to see each other in a social context, he thinks she'd best start seeing Dr. Culdow. Kate nods that she understands. She adds with a laugh that Dr. Culdow is probably better than Karl anyway! With that, she heads out, leaving Karl looking thoughtful.
Ramsay Street
Cody pulls her scooter out of the driveway of No. 30 as Jen runs up the street, after a jog. She tells Cody that she's just clearing her head after another study session: she's been up since five o'clock this morning! She then asks Cody for some help on a few things if she's got some time to spare. Cody says she can't right now 'cos she's got to go to work, but maybe this afternoon. Jen asks where and Cody suggests Jen's place, as at least she won't get harassed there. She then explains about Adrian turning up last night, explaining that it was a bit scary. Jen says in concern:
JEN: Cody, this Adrian thing is getting really serious. Look, I know you might think you can handle it on your own, but I reckon it's gone beyond that now.
No. 22
Danni heads inside after her interview, looking glum. Brett is sitting at the table and asks how she went. Danni just sighs heavily. Brett suggests that next time she should go in with a little more humility - it always works for *him*. Danni nods that he's right: she was too confident. She then bursts out laughing:
DANNI: Humility shmility - they *loved* me!
BRETT (mutters): You cow!
Danni grins that they definitely want her on the course - and all she's got to do is pass the exams; just *pass*. With that, she picks up Brett's notes and throws them up in the air, much to Brett's horror. She smiles that she's going to spend the rest of the afternoon in the spa, thinking about nothing!
Holy Roll
Cheryl is in the kitchen with Angie, telling her that she understands if Angie wants a new look, but she and Stonie are a little concerned that she's latched onto a look that isn't her. Angie, looking downcast, sighs that she guesses it all boils down to Big Kev: she misses him - he makes her feel good about herself, and when he's not around, it's easy to feel unloved; what bloke would give *her* a second look? She goes on that she wanted to make herself attractive for her own sake, so she looked around and Cheryl has so much pizzazz that she was the obvious one to copy - but now she feels attractive on the outside and not feeling like her at *all*. Cheryl smiles:
CHERYL: You know what we're going to do? You and I are going shopping!
Beach
Karl and Kate are walking along a pier, Karl asking Kate where she'll go next after Erinsborough. Kate smiles that she's thinking about Tasmania: she hasn't been there before, and as a fan of Australian history it seems to be calling her. Karl comments that his father always said that travel is the best education you can have. Kate says her father always quoted René Descartes in relation to a cottage in England that's been around since the reign of Charles I: he couldn't help wondering how many people had passed over the door stone to leave a groove that's in it. She asks Karl if *he's* travelled much, but Karl replies that there was the odd medical conference in New Zealand and Fiji and he and Susan spent a very rushed three weeks in Italy just after they married. Kate asks if he'd *like* to travel. Karl nods:
KARL: Course I would. It's just not that easy. My work and my family life have always come first - even since uni, really; not that I'm regretting that or anything. No - but those responsibilities do tie you down. I guess that's why I'm a little envious of Susan going off to Africa: I know she's going to have a real adventure, but she'll be having it without *me*.
KATE: You could travel too.
KARL: Oh, not until at least retirement. Then Susan and I can jet off around the world at our leisure. It's a long way off, I think.
KATE (murmurs): At least you have a long way off to *think* about...
No. 32
Mal and Stonie are watching a TV version of one of the books they're studying for English. There's suddenly a knock at the front door and Stonie goes to answer it. Danni comes in and tells Mal that she was wondering if he wanted to come down to Doobie's with her later for a few drinks and laughs. Mal points out that their English exam is first up tomorrow morning. Danni grins that it's not a problem: she's already scored a place at the local Arts College - all she needs to do is get a pass! Mal, however, tells her that she should be relaxing, and he invites her to join them for a video and pizza. Danni, however, declares that she's going off to celebrate the start of her new career, even if she has to do it on her own!
No. 28
Susan is showing Karl a brochure about Africa, explaining that the lodge they're staying in is about half an hour from three or four World Vision projects. She shows off the scenery in the brochure - but Karl just nods that it's very nice. Susan asks in surprise what the matter with him is. Karl tells her that he's going to miss her - and he admits that he's really quite jealous: he's never really done anything exciting, as it's always been just work and family. Susan comments that that's always been the case for her too. Karl, however, points out that at least she's getting a reprieve; look what *he's* been left with: Mal's got his first exam tomorrow, Libby's head over heels with this surfie boy and Billy's been diagnosed with dyslexia. Susan insists coolly that she's perfectly aware of all the problems, but there's always been something, and she thinks it's mean of him to make her feel worse. She continues:
SUSAN: You're carrying on like I'm some kind of selfish teenager off on some pleasure cruise. I wish!
Karl nods that she's going on a big adventure, he's never done that and he's jealous. He asks if they can leave it. Susan stares into space for several seconds before saying tautly:
SUSAN: If it was you going and me staying, I'd be happy for you. I'd give you my support.
Karl hugs her, telling her that there's his support!
No. 30
Mark is telling Cody about the recipe book he's putting together. The 'phone starts ringing and Cody answers it - to Adrian. He starts pleading with her to please accept his offer of help. Cody, however, growls that she doesn't *want* his help; she wants him to stop harassing her. She hangs up and rejoins Mark, who tells her to hit Adrian with a restraining order - he's infringing on her personal privacy and freedom.
No. 22
The next morning, Brett comes downstairs. Angie and Stonie come in, Angie in new, less- posh, clothes. Mal is with them and Brett asks him how he feels. Mal replies:
MAL: Sick.
BRETT: Me too!
At that moment, Danni comes downstairs slowly, looking fragile. Angie tells everyone that it's time to get going. Cheryl hugs Danni and Brett and everyone heads out.
Erinsborough High exam hall
The exam supervisor tells the students that they may begin. Everyone turns over their papers and starts writing confidently. After a while, Brett asks for another book of paper. Stonie looks at him. Danni glances at the clock.
Sometime later, the invigilator announces that there are 30 minutes remaining. Brett asks for another book!
At 12:15pm, the exam supervisor tells everyone to put their pens down: their time is up.
Erinsborough High
As the students leave the exam hall, Stonie beams that the questions were exactly the same as the one he failed two years ago! Danni, meanwhile, exclaims:
DANNI: So tired! Those three essays in the last section really took it out of me!
Everyone stops and looks at her. Brett comments:
BRETT: You're kidding, right?
DANNI: No!
BRETT: Oh come on, Danni, even *you* couldn't get the instructions *that* far wrong.
DANNI (uncertainly): No - you were supposed to do three essays in one section, right?
BRETT: No, you were supposed to do all three sections and one essay in each of them.
MAL: It's true, Danni.
STONIE: It sounds like you've stuffed it.
BRETT: And if you've stuffed English, you've stuffed the lot, Danni.
Danni stands there looking horrified.
