Recap
- Karl waking up after a night in the bush and stretching happily!
- Patrick lying unconscious after Sam knocks him to the ground.
- Annalise and Stonie kissing passionately.
Camp Drumbeat
Patrick is sitting up as Karl examines his head and comments that it's nothing much - just a rather impressive lump. Running Rivers remarks to Philip and Lou that it feels like they're in for a cold night, and the three of them go to get some firewood. Sam asks his father awkwardly if it's hurting much. Patrick just smiles:
PATRICK: With a skull as thick as mine?!
Karl goes to join the others in collecting firewood. Patrick tells Sam to sit down and relax. Sam does so. He murmurs:
SAM: I wanted to kill you.
PATRICK: No you didn't. You were upset, angry, and you had good reason.
SAM: I hate aggression and violence. I just don't know what got into me.
Patrick smiles at him that he's a perfectionist: he sets impossible standards that even *he* can't maintain. Sam muses that that makes him sounds like a pompous idiot. He insists that he tries, and sometimes he gets there and sometimes he doesn't, but he tries. Patrick says:
PATRICK: Forgive me for saying this, mate, but if you want to be perfect, you're going to have to learn a bit of tolerance.
No. 30
Mark is cooking for an engagement party for one of Helen's Art Club friends, while Cody is ironing. Jo comes in suddenly and says a cheery hi. Mark tells her gruffly that he's busy. Jo explains that that's why she's there: she's had some ideas about how they could turn his backyard operation into an incredibly successful business; now that he's sold the coffee shop, he needs to think about the future. Mark tells her tersely that he'll be fine on his own. Jo points out that he should think about what some expert marketing could do for them - and she suggests they have dinner tonight. Mark, however, puts her off. Jo then asks if they found a lipstick of hers. She goes to look in the bathroom.
No. 24
A short time later, back at No. 24, Jo is putting on a necklace and spraying herself with aftershave. Annalise comes in and says she just went by the office and picked up the mail. She notices a smell suddenly and asks if it's aftershave. Jo tells her that it's Mark's: she was just round there - the two of them kissed and made up. She shows Annalise the necklace and Annalise remarks that it's Mark's, isn't it? Jo just ignores this and says she might go and have a bath.
Camp Drumbeat
It's evening- time and the participants at Camp Drumbeat are sitting around a fire as Running Rivers says:
RUNNING RIVERS: That destiny is a mystery to us, for we do not understand when the wild horses are tamed, and the view of the ripe hills blotted by talking wires. Where is the thicket? Gone. Where is the eagle? Gone. The end of living and the beginning of survival.
Patrick comments that that's beautiful and he asks Running Rivers if he wrote it. Running Rivers, however, explains that it was Chief Seattle's answer to General Washington's request to buy Indian land. Lou comments that it makes you re- evaluate real estate and the value of endless development. Running Rivers turns to Sleepy Koala - Philip - and comments that he's been very quiet. He asks him if he has any feelings about the last couple of days he cares to share with them. Philip says:
PHILIP: Oh, I don't know. Um... I think I've been reminded of the value of mate- ship... teamwork... harmony.
Running Rivers turns to Hermit Crab - Karl - and asks him if *he* has any further thoughts. Karl says he thinks he's learned a sense of belonging. Running Rivers turns to Sam, who says:
SAM: Blood is thicker than water - even if you don't see eye to eye.
Patrick smiles at him. Running Rivers then turns back to Sleepy Koala and asks for a song. Philip tries to resist, but he gives in and starts singing 'Waltzing Matilda'. Everyone joins in.
No. 24
Mark knocks on the front door and heads inside, where Annalise is sitting at the kitchen table, working. He asks if Jo's home but Annalise replies that she's gone down to the all- night chemist. She asks Mark if he wants to see her, but Mark replies quickly that he doesn't. Annalise asks if something's wrong. Mark says he thinks Jo has been pinching some of his stuff: he's missing one of his shirts, and today after Jo dropped round he couldn't find his aftershave and he's lost his necklace. Annalise looks suddenly thoughtful. She tells Mark to leave it with her: she'll see what she can find out.
No. 24
It's the middle of the night. Jo is in the kitchen, icing a cake, when Annalise emerges from her bedroom, sleepily, and stares at her sister in horror. The cake is a wedding cake with bride and groom figures on it!
No. 30
The next morning, Annalise is at No. 30, telling Mark that she didn't want to come to him until she was absolutely sure she was right. Mark asks her if Jo denied it straight out. Annalise nods that Jo swears he gave her that stuff. She goes on that she doesn't know what to do; she thinks Jo might need help. Mark muses that it's a bit like that movie... Annalise asks if he means 'Fatal Attraction' and then adds that she's not *that* far gone. Mark points out that anything Jo does can't be as bad as *his* effort, and look at him now: he's so normal, he's boring!
Holy Roll
Cheryl joins Cody and Jen and asks Jen if she's looking forward to the Mountain Men returning. Jen smiles that it was nice to be in an all- female house for a change! Cheryl comments that it was more relaxing without Lou at home - but absence *does* make the heart grow fonder!
Camp Drumbeat
Philip and Lou are packing up Philip's car. Sam and Patrick are sitting a distance away, Sam saying to his father:
SAM: You're right - I guess I *do* see things in black and white. And I'm not very tolerant.
PATRICK: How do you go on forgiveness?
SAM: Well, I find it hard - and I'll find it pretty hard with *you*, but maybe I'll get there. I just hope you can return the favour.
Patrick asks him if he means the bump, and assures him that it's forgotten already. Philip and Lou join them and Lou asks where Karl is.
Karl is next to the stream with Running Rivers, sitting cross- legged. He asks Running Rivers if he really thinks he's cut out for this sort of thing. Running Rivers tells him that he's a natural- born leader; he wouldn't have asked if he couldn't do it. Running Rivers asks him if he'll stay then. Karl nods. Lou and Philip walk over and Karl asks them to tell Susan that he's staying on, as Running Rivers is running a sweat lodge and has invited him to be camp leader. Patrick and Sam join them and Sam asks what's going on. Lou indicates Karl and grins:
LOU: Meet the new Chief!
Camp Drumbeat
A short time later, Philip shuts his driver's- side door and drives him, Lou, Patrick and Sam back to civilisation as Karl and Running Rivers wave goodbye.
Chez Chez
Annalise is on the 'phone, talking to Ronnie and asking where she can reach Tarquin. Ronnie, however, doesn't appear to know, and so Annalise asks him to let her know if he speaks to him. She hangs up as Cheryl comes over and tells her eagerly that the boys will be there soon. Annalise looks miles away and Cheryl asks if everything's all right. Annalise tells her that she's a bit stressed, to do with Jo. At that moment, Lou, Sam and Patrick come in, chanting! Lou declares:
LOU: The warriors have returned!
Sam grabs Annalise and asks if she missed him. Annalise smiles haltingly and says:
ANNALISE: What do you think?!
She then asks where Karl and Phil are. Patrick tells her that Phil couldn't wait to get home to Jen, and Karl stayed behind. Sam adds that he's running a sweat lodge! Patrick explains that it's very cleansing, spiritually. Lou smiles that they all had a ball - and even had a vegan diet. Sam explains that he managed to catch a trout! He takes a beer and tells Annalise that he'll just have one and then they can get out of there. Annalise looks worried. Lou raises his beer and proposes a toast to Camp Drumbeat!
No. 26
Jen is inspecting a string- based necklace Philip made for her at Camp Drumbeat! She smiles at Cody that it's a present from Sleepy Koala made with his own little paws! Cody grins that Jen needs the right outfit to go with it! Philip, however, tells the two women that you wear it by itself - *with* someone; it's kind of a stimulant. Jen and Cody let out raise their eyebrows and make knowing sounds! Cody says she might go see a film with Mark, and she dashes off! Jen puts the necklace round her neck and smiles at Philip that she's starting to feel the effects already! Philip suggests they go off to the old cave...!
No. 24
Sam is kissing Annalise on the couch, but she pushes him away and asks him to slow down. Sam mutters that anyone would get the idea she was pleased to have him back. He asks what's wrong. Annalise tells him that she's worried about Jo: she's totally obsessed with Mark - he'll say 'no', but she won't take it for an answer. Sam insists that Jo is just *infatuated* with Mark; it'll pass. He then asks Annalise if that's all that's bothering her. Annalise asks if that isn't enough. Sam goes to kiss her again, but she asks him quickly about him and his dad, as they seem to be getting along a lot better. Sam nods wearily that at first he was ready to spit the dummy, and on the second day he thought he was going to strangle him - but they've called a truce: he still can't forget about his father cheating on his mum - at the end of the day, it's still infidelity, and in his book you either love someone or you don't. Annalise puts her hand to her mouth nervously before saying:
ANNALISE: Sam...
SAM (gently): Yeah, what?
Annalise looks into his eyes before sighing:
ANNALISE: Nothing...
No. 30
Cody and Mark head into No. 30, enthusing about the movie they just saw. Cody suddenly notices classical music playing. Mark remarks that someone left the radio on. They suddenly hear a cork popping and Jo calls out to ask Mark if that's him.
In the kitchen, Jo is standing all dressed up, holding a bottle of champagne. She looks at Cody and smiles that she was hoping to catch Mark alone - they've got a lot to talk about. Mark looks at Jo and then spots the wedding cake she made, on the table. He frowns in horror. Jo just stands there smiling.
