- Rosemary wants to buy Cheryl's shares. Cheryl refuses.
- Rick considers working for Parkside Pacific
- Rosemary tells Gaby that she's not renewing her contract when it expires in six months time.
GABY: You can't do that!
ROSEMARY: Well, the reason I wasn't going to...
GABY: I'm *good* at my job!
ROSEMARY: No- one doubts the contribution you've made in the past.
ROSEMARY: Gaby, come on. Managing Lassiter's is a demanding job. I mean, to call it full time is an understatement!
GABY: Are you suggesting I'm no longer up to the job because of my baby?
ROSEMARY: Of course not, I'm simply saying that I'm not renewing your contract...
GABY: That is not fair, you're pre- judging the situation.
ROSEMARY: And you're not listening!
GABY: You think that in a couple of months time, the baby will get sick and then I'll need to take some more time off.
ROSEMARY: No, it's not like that...
GABY: Don't you think I've got the time and energy to devote to Lassiter's?
ROSEMARY: I don't think you're being realistic!
GABY: Yes, well, with attitudes like yours, it's no wonder there are so few women in senior management.
ROSEMARY: *I'm* a woman. This is getting us nowhere. Look, I've got an alternate proposition. I'm very keen to get the Outback Artist tours up and running. Now, to do that, I've got to open an office in Darwin. And mum tells me you've got your pilot's licence...
GABY: Hold on. You want me to move to Darwin?
ROSEMARY: You're the perfect person, Gaby. You'd have more time to spend with your baby, you could have more flexible working...
GABY: Yeah, right, a glorified tourist bus driver in the middle of nowhere! Thanks very much!
ROSEMARY: Look, I'm doing you a favour. That's my best offer, Gaby. You can take it, or you can leave it. That's up to you.
Gaby just looks at her.
Rick is trying to decide whether to go to Parkside Pacific to work. Mark and Annalise start an argument about being materialistic.
GABY: I'm so angry, I could scream!
CODY: Are you going to take this flying job?
GABY: I'd rather fly day trips around the Bermuda Triangle that work for that woman!
CODY: Talk to a lawyer, what she's doing is discrimination. You can *not* sack women because they have babies, Gaby!
GABY: Well, technically she isn't sacking me, she's just not renewing my contract. Besides, she's offered me another job.
CODY: So, we're right back where we started. What are you going to do?
GABY: I don't know.
CODY: You could always go on the Single Mother's pension.
GABY: No, I couldn't.
CODY: Why not? You're entitled.
GABY: Yeah, I know. I just couldn't. Too used to working I guess.
CODY: You're going to have to do something, for this little guy's sake if for nothing else.
Rosemary tells Helen that Cheryl won't sell her shares. Rosemary wonders if she could talk Cheryl round with a managerial role. Rosemary notes that the Waterhole is important to Cheryl.
Annalise is moaning about Mark shrinking her top. Rick tells her that she's driving him crazy.
Rosemary comes in and tells them she's decided to open a cocktail bar within the hotel, and sell the Waterhole! Annalise is horrified and says Cheryl will be too.
At a table, Rick asks Rosemary if she's looking for staff for the new cocktail bar. Rosemary brushes him off.
Cheryl's hospital room
Cheryl is cradling Louise and Lou and Marlene are visiting. Annalise rushes in.
ANNALISE: Rosemary's going to sell The Waterhole
Gaby and Cody are cooing over Zac. Cody isn't sure how she feels about Rick. Gaby is still thinking about the Lassiter's thing and decides to go and see Cheryl.
Annalise and Rick are changing light bulbs and chatting. Rick has invited Cassandra around later and asks Annalise not to fight with Mark while she's there.
Cheryl's hospital room
Cheryl is worried about The Waterhole. Lou and Marlene are playing cards.
Gaby comes in to discuss business with Cheryl, so Lou takes Marlene off.
CHERYL: Annalise has already told me, and don't worry, I'm not going to take it lying down.
CHERYL: About the Waterhole?
Gaby just looks at her.
CHERYL: You don't know? Rosemary Daniels plans to sell it.
GABY: You're kidding!
CHERYL: She's going to have a fight on her hands, though.
GABY: She's incredible! She's not renewing my contract because of the baby, that's what I wanted to talk to you about.
GABY: Yes, she thinks new mothers make lousy managers.
CHERYL: She's got no idea, that woman!
GABY: Obviously, if she's planning to sell The Waterhole.
CHERYL: We'll just have to give her an education, won't we, Gaby?!
Cassandra turns up in a flash car. Cody sees her and glowers.
Mark has made a nice salad for Rick and Cassandra's lunch. Cassandra arrives and Mark heads off.
Cassandra has drawn up a contract for Rick and he's about to look at it when Annalise starts a row with Mark over a towel. Rick sighs.
Gaby has invited Rosemary over.
GABY: Thank you for coming.
ROSEMARY: You've given some thought to my proposal?
GABY: Yes. Please sit down.
GABY: Rosemary, you're a very successful businesswoman. And I appreciate that you've got to where you are by being ruthless, you had to be.
ROSEMARY: Oh, Gaby, you didn't invite me over here to talk about me.
GABY: No. I was hoping you might be able to recognise that quality in others.
ROSEMARY: What, ruthlessness?
GABY: Exactly. I've put a lot of damn hard work into my job. At times, I've had to sacrifice friendships and relationships to make that company what it is, and I am not about to roll over like some trained dog!
ROSEMARY: Gaby, if you're looking for a fight, let me warn you, you'll lose.
GABY: I don't want to fight you. I think we'd be much stronger working together as a team. You're heading back to the States soon and you're going to need somebody this end. Philip doesn't want the job. I'm the best option you've got. So, I'll be back at my desk next week. You'll have plenty of time to see me in action. All I am asking is that you let the work speak for itself.
ROSEMARY: That was some speech.
GABY: I'm not just talk.
ROSEMARY: Nothing's written in stone, Gaby. If you're determined to try and prove me wrong, then I suppose I've got to let you.
Gaby looks pleased.
Mark and Annalise are still arguing. Rick and Cassandra are trying to talk about his Parkside Pacific contract. Rick thinks it sounds great, but he's not ready to sign yet. He wants to see Lassiter's offer first as they gave him his first break.
Mark and Annalise come in bickering and Rick tells them off.
RICK: This is really unfair. You're acting like a couple of two year olds.
Both stomp off in different directions.
Cheryl's hospital room
Lou is entertaining the baby with some stories when Rosemary arrives.
CHERYL: I know what you're up to, Rosemary.
CHERYL: You think you can ride roughshod over the lot of us, don't you.
ROSEMARY: Look, Cheryl, as I'm now the major shareholder, if I decide to sell The Waterhole, The Waterhole gets sold, it's simple.
CHERYL: Couldn't be simpler, and that's why I've asked you there. I want to make a deal.
MARLENE: Careful, lovvie, lie down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas.
CHERYL: No, it's fine, Marlene. Rosemary's keen to buy my shares in Lassiter's and I'll sell them to her, on one condition.
ROSEMARY: Which is?
CHERYL: Selling me The Waterhole outright.
ROSEMARY: You've got to be kidding.
CHERYL: It may not be part of your masterplan, Rosemary, but the logic is undeniable. You get to be the sole owner of Lassiter's, I get to be the sole owner of The Waterhole, we go our separate ways and our paths need never cross.
ROSEMARY: Otherwise you won't sell me your shares, right?
CHERYL: Right. And don't think you can diddle me on the price, because I've been around pubs too long. I know what a fair price is. So, what do you say.
ROSEMARY: Alright, Cheryl. You've got yourself a deal.
LOU: That's my girl.
Mark and Annalise apologise to Rick and Cassandra for fighting in front of them.
Rosemary tells Helen that she convinced Cheryl to sell her shares.
ROSEMARY: Oh, Mum. Cheryl played right into my hands. I had to bite the inside of my cheeks to stop myself from grinning.
HELEN: Well, everyone has what they want, that's the main thing.
ROSEMARY: It was like poetry. I wish you could have been there.
HELEN: I still don't understand why you both had to be do devious. I mean, you would have achieved exactly the same result if you'd been honest and direct from the start.
ROSEMARY: Yes, but where's the fun in that?!
ROSEMARY: Always remember, mother, you taught me everything I know!
Cody is shooting a few basketball hoops when Cassandra and Rick come out of No.30. She looks over, a bit jealous.
Rick hasn't signed the contract yet. Cassandra kisses Rick on the lips and Cody looks furious.
Rosemary wants to take Helen out to celebrate tonight. Just then, Rick calls around to see Rosemary.
ROSEMARY: Alright, so what's so important?
RICK: It's about my position in the company.
ROSEMARY: I thought I told you to talk talk Prue about that.
RICK: Yeah, I know. It's just I've had some discussion with Parkside Pacific.
ROSEMARY: I see.
RICK: Yeah. They approach me, I didn't go to them.
ROSEMARY: And what did Parkside have to say?
RICK: Well, they've offered me a contract with a 20% increase in pay, uniform allowances and a flexible holiday arrangement.
ROSEMARY: Sounds very attractive.
RICK: Yeah, well it is.
ROSEMARY: So, you're going to take it?
RICK: That's why I'm here. I've got to give them an answer this afternoon.
ROSEMARY: So you've come to see if I'll match it.
RICK: Yeah, something like that.
ROSEMARY: Look, Rick, do you want to stay on at Lassiter's? I mean, Parkside is a big organisation and they've got a lot to offer, now on the other hand, I've got some dynamic plans for us and being smaller, advancement up the corporate ladder could be considerably swifter.
RICK: Yeah, well, I think I've got a pretty good chance of advancement at Parkside too.
ROSEMARY: I tell you what, Rick. I'll match that offer. If you're as ambitious as I think you are, you're wasted behind that bar.
RICK: Thank you.
Rick is playing darts with Cody when Cassandra comes in.
CASSANDRA: Rick...should I be ordering champagne?
RICK: Er...I'm staying with Lassiter's.
RICK: Yeah...sorry, I owe you a lot. If you hadn't shown such interest, none of this could have happened.
CASSANDRA: Oh...we would have had so much fun together!
CODY:(sarcastically) What a shame.
RICK: Sorry, you remember Cody?
He goes to the bar and Cassandra comments to Cody on how cute Rick's butt is. Cody tells her that Rick is her boyfriend.
