Pam falls asleep at the wheel of her car.
Lucy is doing her homework lying on the living room floor and Josh is trying to distract her by asking her out for a date on Saturday night. Lucy turns him down, saying she's not interested.
In the kitchen, Jim and Helen are discussing the engine made in Adelaide by a bloke called Reynolds. Helen says that Jim doesn't know how far Reynolds has progressed with his idea - there must be something he can salvage from his research.
Cody tells Doug that she's leaving school to get a job(!) so she can help out. He rolls he eyes. Then he gets a phone-call from the hospital about Pam and dashes off.
Jim has been looking into the Adelaide prototype and it does sound the same as his. Todd comes in and goes off to his bedroom to work on Cody's present. Jim tells Helen that he may still beat Reynolds to the punch.
Pam has escaped the crash with a bump on her head. She's supposed to be resting but instead is bustling around the house organising a dinner for Cody's birthday. Cody and Doug beg her to go to bed. Pam insists she's fine, but suddenly she faints away on to the floor.
Cycle Path, the following morning
Jim and Dorothy are out on their bikes. They agree to disagree about Colin and decide to avoid the subject in future. Jim tells Dorothy about the engine issue.
It's Cody's birthday and Doug is doing her a cooked breakfast. Pam is in bed - the doctor gave her a sleeping pill and told her she needs lots of rest.
Cody picks up a potato from the table from Adam, and inside is a nice pair of earrings for her birthday. There's also a present from Brad - a University of California T-shirt. Pam gets up and give Cody a present from her and Doug - she's made her a skirt and top. Pam is off to start cooking Cody's dinner but Doug tells her it's all in hand - he's going to cook it. Pam and Cody look skeptical(!)
Josh and Todd wish Cody a happy birthday. Todd says she'll have to wait until tonight for her present.
Josh chases after Lucy to walk to school with her. He's still trying to get her to go on a date with him, but Lucy insists she's not interested. Then she tells him there's someone else. He doesn't believe her.
Jim is on the phone to the journalist - it's not good news: Reynolds has had backing and his project is more advanced that Jim's. Jim is gutted - he actually thought of the idea years ago when he was young, but he's only just got around to developing it.
Doug pops in to invite them over for dinner tonight and explains that he is cooking. Helen offers Doug some help - in fact, she'll take care of the whole thing. Doug is very grateful.
Cody is very impressed by Doug's cooking (really Helen's!). Todd tells her that he's left her present in her bedroom.
Lucy wonders where Glen is but apparently he's working another shift. Josh is grilling Lucy about her mystery guy and is sure he knows him.
In Cody's bedroom, Todd give Cody a book entitled "The Life Of Cody" - it starts with baby photos and goes through the years to the present day. Cody loves it.
TODD: I've left plenty of space for your future. Well, *our* future, hopefully.
CODY: Oh, I hope so too. I love you, Todd Landers.
TODD: I love you too. ...what's your name, again?! No, seriously, I really, really do.
Cody is making a bit of a speech to thank everyone for the party, especially Doug and Pam. They start handing out cake. Jim and Dorothy arrive and Todd observes that Dorothy has brought a present.
TODD: It looks like she's brought a present too!
JOSH: It's probably a bound copy of the school dress code!
It turns out to be a Hunters and Collectors tape and everyone gapes in shock that her present is actually cool.
DOROTHY: I don't like to be predictable!
Pam cuts Dorothy some cake while Helen tells her that she's been given the go-ahead to sue the hotel about her leg. Dorothy offers to go and pick up Helen's stick as her leg is really hurting tonight.
Josh is still badgering Lucy and mentions Glen. Lucy goes into a strop and she again tells Josh she's not interested.
Dorothy enters the house to get the stick, but the phone rings while she's there and Dorothy answers it and offers to take a message.
Dorothy tells Jim that a journalist wants an interview with him. Apparently Dorothy thought the journalist was digging for dirt with her about Jim - as if he thought Jim had stolen the idea. Jim wonders if one of his friends over the years has leaked his idea.
Josh is sulking in the kitchen and tells Todd that Lucy went in a bad mood when he mentioned Glen. Suddenly he realises something and goes over to Lucy.
JOSH: So that's what this whole thing's about, is it? Glen.
LUCY: I thought I asked you to...
JOSH: The mystery man in your life. It's Glen.
LUCY: That's the stupidest thing I've heard...
JOSH: Don't tell me I'm wrong! Because I can see it in your eyes. Are you crazy? He's your brother!
JOSH: I can't believe that you could be so stupid. I mean, it's sick! What do you think Jim will say when he finds out?
JIM:(interrupting) When I find out what?
