Adam is debating whether or not to take a job at a pizza place. He needs the money, but the hours are unsociable and his car is unreliable - can Pam see him hitchhiking with loads of pizzas? Pam snaps that one hitchhiker in the family is enough. Adam tries to reassure her, but Pam won't be calmed until she hears from Doug. Caroline is at the door, she can't make their date tonight because she has to entertain a major client, but offers to go tomorrow; however, Adam is going to a party with Rory. Caroline thinks that Rory is a bad friend, but Adam wants to give him a break. Caroline asks Pam about Cody and Todd, but Pam is worried that she could be lying in a ditch somewhere.
Cody is coughing and dreaming that her mum has locked her in a room. She is shivery one minute and sweating the next, so Todd decides to take her to a doctor, but Cody insists that she just needs to sleep. She is in damp clothes. So Todd wants to go into town for dry clothes and food.
Joe couldn't face work, he's still cut up about losing Sky - watching Sky go was like losing Kerry all over again.
JOE: I keep doing things for Sky y'know like she's everywhere. Y'know like picking up sharp things off the floor so she doesn't cut herself. Turning the pots round so she won't tip things over herself…
Melanie is incredulous that the judge gave Eric custody of Sky.
MELANIE: Eric doesn't know about stuff like… turning the pots over. He doesn't know about the little things like stories at bedtime. Sky is going to be completely miserable with him!
Joe doesn't want to hear it because thinking it would send him to the loony bin.
The Coffee Shop
A girl asks Rory to give her directions to the train station, introducing herself as Magella. Rory flirts outrageously and attempt to find a way to take her out. Only tonight will do, but he is working, so he'll have to find a way around that.
Josh and Melissa enter, as she tries to wangle information about tonight's surprise. She then asks about Todd and Cody - Josh reckons they are having a wonderful time…
Todd is entering an empty laundrette, eyeing up some unattended clothes. A man enters before he can swipe them so Todd looks at the notices on the wall. He asks the stranger how to get to a farm where there is a job as farmhand advertised. The man asks Todd if he could keep an eye on his laundry whilst he pops to the pub. Todd agrees, but swipes the unattended clothes and runs.
Eileen Roberts has invited Pam to play bridge, but she couldn't face it. Josh enters, attempting to find out if there has been any news. Finding that there hasn't he tries to comfort her but fails miserably. Adam encourages her to phone Mrs Roberts back, taking her mind off the situation could do some good. Realising she won't get peace until she does, she agrees on the condition Adam stays in in case Doug calls.
Cody has changed into the stolen clothes.
CODY: Maybe I could start a new trend? The ‘lost in clothes' look.
She lapses into another coughing fit, as Todd tries to encourage her to return home. Through coughs she refuses.
Toby is trying out a new magic trick, he's been at it for weeks, but Sky kept messing him up.
TOBY: It's a stupid trick anyway - I'm not even a real magician, if I was I'd magic Sky back home.
JOE: Nah, it's a great trick.
Rory insists on making a phone call to Magella, telling her that he has found a way to get the clients out of his hair.
A blindfolded Melissa is being guided by Josh into the house. She has no clue where they are. He takes the blindfold off but she can't open her eyes until he says so. The house is decorated with balloons and there is a smoke machine covering the floor with smoke and they have food prepared.
JOSH: If my girl wants a dance, she gets a dance!
Rory has appeared on the doorstep pretending to Adam that he is ill. He begs Adam to take over his work, even when Adam protests that he has to stay in for the phone call. Rory claims that he could be a danger on the road because of his illness, so Adam reluctantly agrees to cover for him.
Josh and Melissa are dancing, but he keeps stepping on her toes. They take their shoes off to limit the risk of injury. They return to dancing as Melissa assures him she is having a good time.
MELISSA: This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me.
Josh has brought food and tells Cody about the job he saw advertised. There is only one problem, they have to walk there and he isn't sure that Cody is up to it. Cody assures him she is, but she lapses into another coughing fit, covering her back by saying she was choking on a piece of bread. They will head out there tomorrow.
The phone is ringing, so Pam is trying to get in as quick as she can, but she just misses it. She wonders where Adam is.
Caroline is outlining the advantages of a contract with Lassiters as the client apologises for cutting the evening short, but he doesn't like leaving his 16 year old daughter alone in the hotel room. They step out of the car and bump into Rory and Magella.
CLIENT: Perhaps you'll explain what your supposedly sick chauffer is doing with my underage daughter?
