Pam is banging on about "safety houses" and wants to register their house as one. Doug isn't chuffed, saying Pam has already done enough for the Neighbourhood Watch cause. Adam thinks that Ramsay Street is hardly the Bronx! Anyway, all this security got started by Todd and Josh playing a prank on Cody and her friends! Pam is unmoved however.
Madge comes in and Dorothy tries to way- lay her.
MADGE: Some other time, Dorothy! Organising anti- guerrilla warfare for Ramsay Street will have to wait!
She goes over to Harold and asks if any of Gemma's friend's have been in, but they haven't. Madge can't work out where Matt and Gemma could be, although she's heard they could be in a share house. She and Harold are both very distressed. Madge vows to collar Matt this afternoon at the Waterhole.
Dorothy comes over to talk to Madge about Gemma - she is her headmistress and has been through situations like this before. Madge tells Dorothy off for ordering her about and Dorothy looks rather shocked.
Gemma is studying in a dreadful- looking house while Matt puts posters up over the ripped wallpaper. Gemma says she'll call in the Coffee Shop later to talk to Harold about their situation. In the meantime, she'll go and study in the library. She insists she hasn't got any regrets though.
Madge is ringing around Gemma's friends when Ryan pops around. Madge is forced to tell him that Gemma has moved out.
Pam comes in and Dorothy tells her that the safety house committee meeting has been moved forward to this afternoon. Pam shows Dorothy a letter she's written about the street lighting. Dorothy criticises the grammar and layout of her letter and Pam looks a bit put- out. Dorothy starts correcting the letter with a pen and Pam looks even more put- out!
Pam is telling Doug about Dorothy criticising her letter and he tries not to laugh (not very successfully!) Pam is really mad about being treated like a schoolkid and Doug says it's about time someone put Dorothy in her place.
Dorothy is badgering Madge about Neighbourhood Watch again. Then she starts criticising Madge for driving Gemma to move out(!) Madge is not impressed and tells her that Ryan isn't doing very well with the stress either - he's even come out in a rash. Dorothy looks shocked.
Harold is delighted to see Gemma, but quickly recovers and tells her off for not phoning. Gemma tells him she can't face any more fights with Madge - Madge thinks she's a stupid child. Harold thinks she should come home, but Gemma just talks about getting a job once her exams are over. Harold tries to get her to tell him where she's staying, but she won't.
Dorothy comes in to find Ryan studying in the living room. She wants to have a talk to him - she's heard he's a gibbering wreck. She apologises for putting pressure on him. Ryan says she is a nightmare! Dorothy asks after his rash, but Ryan misunderstands and lets slip about the sedatives he is taking. Dorothy is appalled he is taking drugs and wants Ryan to give them to her. He storms off instead.
Outside the Waterhole
Madge sees Matt at work and immediately lays into him. Matt says it was Gemma's choice to move out, and he's going to look after her. Madge asks Matt how he's going to support Gemma financially, then to make things harder for him, tells him point blank that he's fired!
Gemma is picking up some clothes when Dorothy calls around. She's looking for Ryan but he's not around. She asks Gemma about the sedatives and she mentions that Adam has spoken to Ryan about them.
Harold comes in and begs Gemma to come back home, but she doesn't want to. He gives Gemma a big speech about family being precious and he couldn't bear a repeat of what happened between Kerry and him. He begs Gemma to put her dreams of being with Matt off for a while. Finally, he just opens his wallet and gives Gemma some cash. Then he gives her a hug (aww, bless!)
Dorothy storms round looking for Adam, but he's not in. Pam says that Adam will be back for dinner. Dorothy has got hold of the wrong end of the stick and has got it into her head that Adam prescribed sedatives to Ryan.
PAM: Dorothy, I suggest you watch what you say, because you're wrong. Very wrong.
DOROTHY: For your son's sake, I hope so. Good day!
Matt has put in a complaint to Paul about unfair dismissal. Madge claims she sacked Matt for leaving the bar unattended and also leaving Gemma minding the bar. Paul says he'll give Matt another chance and Madge is not pleased. He does give Matt an official warning though.
Ryan is studying at an outside table and Paul shoos him off before he loses his licence!
Dorothy is telling a policeman that she wants the Willis house application to be a safety house withdrawn. He wants her to tell him why, but she says it's nothing but hearsay.
Doug and Adam get back from the pub. Pam starts to tell Adam about Dorothy, but just then there's a knock at the door. It's three policemen, come with a search warrant. Adam thinks it's a joke, but the police advise him that they've had a tip he's involved in the illegal supply of drugs.
