Tracey is reading a magazine and Rosemary is trying to engage her in conversation. She doesn't get very far and goes off to make a coffee.
In the kitchen, Jim is already making coffee. Rosemary tells him that she doesn't know how to get on with Tracey. Jim advises her that it takes time and patience.
Helen comes in and tells Rosemary that she needs to talk to Jim - alone. She tells him that she knows about Caroline - she worked it out. Jim says that he and Caroline have nothing to be ashamed of. He's shocked to hear that Helen has already talked to Caroline and he's furious.
JIM: You are interfering in something you know nothing about!
He storms off.
Toby has come to see if Rosie has returned home. He's worried sick about Bouncer - he's been gone for two days, and he never misses his dinner - ever. He's worried that Bouncer has been run over. Dorothy suggests that they go out and have a look together.
Bouncer is lying down at the bottom of the hole, while the sun sets.
Melissa, Cody, Josh and Todd are hanging out when Beverly comes in. Melissa and Cody tells her about their song. Todd tells Beverly that he's decided to sell his bike - he can't go to the track with Boof down there. He might have already got a buyer. Cody says they could start a band instead!
CODY: There's a whole world out there waiting!
Todd is less than impressed, but can't think of anything else to do!
Jim has come around to see Caroline. She is in tears. She tells Jim that Beverly still hopes to get back with him, but he insists his marriage is over. He's surprised to hear that there is something else going on, but can't think of anything. He thinks Helen was just bluffing.
Helen is upset about her argument with Jim. Rosemary asks her what's going on, but Helen doesn't want to say. Rosemary starts banging on about her lack of maternal instinct. She lays it on thick about Helen missing Lucy and Katie. She thinks that Helen should look after Tracey!
ROSEMARY: I want you to have Tracey. I mean, naturally, I would support her financially, but New York's no place for a child! Tracey adores you, and you love children. What would be a better solution than for you to look after her?!
Helen is shocked at Rosemary's request and says she'd be throwing away an opportunity - Rosemary needs to wake up to herself. Rosemary says that it's in Tracey's best interests to stay with Helen. Helen says that the answer is no - Rosemary will just have to bring disorder to her orderly life.
Josh and Todd are mocking Melissa and Cody's attempts to write a song. Beverly thinks they're doing very well. Finally Todd and Josh relent and agree to join in. Melissa says it's too late now - they'll have to form their own band!
Dorothy and Toby are out looking for Bouncer. Toby thinks the dogs are lost for good. Dorothy says she'll try the pound again.
Dorothy gets out some paper and pens.
DOROTHY: All is not lost...except the dog!
She tells Toby that they're going to make "Lost Dog" notices and put them up locally.
Caroline says that maybe she and Jim should stop seeing each other - everyone being so against them makes it so complicated. Jim says he doesn't want to give in to busybodies. He wants them to go official - it's not the Victorian age, after all. He'll also deal with Helen. Caroline agrees.
CAROLINE: Let's risk it!
The kids are tucking into chocolate cake. Todd says that Des has a set of drums in his garage - maybe he'll lend them to him? Josh says he already plays an instrument - he'll go home and get it.
Josh's instrument is a violin which he is playing badly. Beverly comes out and suggests they all have some pizza.
Rosemary is talking to Tracey about going to museums etc in New York. Jim comes in and asks Helen for a word in the kitchen.
Tracey tells Rosemary that she wants to go back to her own school - she knows Rosemary doesn't want her. She'd rather go back to boarding school - at least she'd be with her friends.
The kids have gone out to get pizza. Caroline comes around to see Beverly and tells her that her relationship with Jim happened suddenly. Beverly says it's over between her and Jim, so it doesn't matter.
CAROLINE: Are you sure? Because I'd rather not see him again if you hold out any hopes of getting back together.
BEVERLEY: I don't. Our relationship was floundering long before you came on the scene. Jim's a free agent as far as I'm concerned. So good luck. I hope it works out better for you than it did for me.
She shows Caroline out.
CAROLINE: Thank you.
BEVERLEY: Jim's a lot of hard work. You may not be thanking me for long.
Jim is ranting at Helen for making Caroline cry.
HELEN: I had my reasons - Beverly, for one!
JIM: Oh, give me a break. Do you think I hadn't considered Beverly? That's why I told her I was seeing someone. Our marriage is over! If Beverly wanted it any other way, she could have said so!
HELEN: No, she couldn't!
JIM: Why not? Come on, Helen. Cut the drama, tell me what's going on!
HELEN: I promised her I wouldn't tell you. She's pregnant.
Jim's face reads utter shock.
