Matt is moaning to Lee about the loss of the common room. He's excited about the petition, though. Lee says there are no jobs in the paper, so Matt tells her to talk to Joe. Lee doesnt think so - she doesn't have any experience. But Matt doesn't think that it takes a lot to pull out a few weeds(!)
Hilary comes in and Matt tells her about saving the common room. She won't sign the petition - she doesn't think it's a good cause. In her opinion, the common room serves as a social club and they should work in the library! Hilary says all the petition will do is get him a reputation as a trouble-maker.
Madge is on the phone to work saying that Gloria won't be in today because she's too shaken. Gloria comes out in her dressing gown and Madge makes her a cup of tea. Madge thinks that the bombings are related to the forthcoming court case. She thinks that Rob's mate who sold the stolen parts is to blame and Gloria admits that she's right. She's had a note warning her to keep her mouth shut. Madge says that she must call the police - Gloria could have been killed when her car ran off the road. Gloria says she knows what she's doing though. She says she's going to go to work anyway.
Lucy is being frosty with Jim and generally being stroppy. Helen tells her off. Jim gives Lucy some money to buy her ticket to Julie's.
When Jim has gone, Helen tells Lucy to grow up and says she's very disappointed in her. She says Lucy has done nothing to earn Jim's trust - she can't expect to have it for nothing. Helen suggests that she apologises to him, but Lucy thinks it's too late. Helen says it's never too late.
Mike is reading the petition and says that it reads well. Mike and Des both sign in and Matt and Lee are pleased.
Joe and Kerry are loading up the ute when Matt comes up. He asks Joe about the part-time work for Lee and Joe scoffs. Kerry tells him off for being a male chauvinist. Joe says landscaping is more than mowing a few lawns, but Kerry thinks Joe should give her a chance. He reluctantly agrees to think about it.
Gloria tells Paul that she'd rather keep busy. Paul says that she should report the incidents to the police, but Gloria explains that she doesn't want to - going to the police is what started all this. Paul tells her she can't be intimidated but Gloria is unmoved.
Kerry is trying to tell Joe something rather nervously. But Joe thinks she is building up to asking him again to give Lee a chance. Joe says he needs someone who has brute strength though.
Paul tells Madge that he's worried about Gloria being on her own at home. He suggests that she come and stay with him until the trial is over. Gloria is pleased, but says she wouldn't want to impose. Paul says he'd welcome the company - she'd be doing him a favour. Gloria accepts gratefully.
Lee is sitting on the pavement. She tells Matt that she wants to leave the job with Joe, but he won't hear of it - they'll go and see him later. Matt says that they have to go and pick up her clothes too, but Lee isn't keen to see her parents.
Mike comes up on his motorbike and tells them that Hilary is the brain behind the withdrawal of the common room. Matt realises that's why Hilary was so dead against the petition.
Lucy apologises to Jim for all that has happened and he hugs her. She feels obliged to go to Julie's though as she's bought a ticket and Julie is expecting her. She's going to go out on a farewell date with Nick too. She promises to be home by ten, but Jim says eleven will be fine.
Joe tells Lee that he needs someone for heavier jobs and he's promised the little jobs to Todd. Matt and Lee take this news gracefully.
Hilary comes in and Matt tackles her about the common room. He tels her he knows she is trying to get rid of it to extend the staffroom. Matt says she's just the part-time librarian and the students won't give up without a fight. Hilary forbids him to go ahead with the protest but Matt tells her to get lost.
Helen is glad that Jim and Lucy have made up. Lucy comes out and says she's decided not to go out with Nick after all - she'd rather spend her time with Jim and Helen.
Joe and Kerry are having a cup of tea. Kerry starts trying to tell him something again. She says sometimes people make a mess of things when their heart was in the right place.
JOE: Kez, will you stop beating around the flamin' bush. Just say what you want to say.
KERRY: I'm Dear George!
Joe doesn't believe her, but she tells him she did it for the extra money. Joe is cross - it was the column that told him and Harold to make up. Kerry says she's quit already. Joe pretends to look cross but suddenly starts to laugh. He pashes Kerry and tells her she's a dag(!)
Matt is still helping Lee to look for a job. Lee is starting to be a bit shirty though - it feels like Matt is running her whole life. He hasn't done anything wrong, but she can do some things on her own. They start to bicker and Matt says he did it because he likes her. Lee says he's got a funny way of showing it, and with that he kisses her. Lee walks off without a word.
MATT: I can't believe I just did that.
