At the coffee shop
Sally denies that anything is going on. She is interested in lots of people because she's new in town. Des persists but Eileen interrupts them. Sally says she will tell him what's going on, but not in front of Eileen. He should meet her back at the coffee shop that night at 9.00.
At the Ramsays
Scott is studying when Henry comes in with Jane. Henry rushes off to have a shower, ready for his date with Sally. Jane looks through Scott's work and says he really doesn't need her help anymore. When he thinks maybe he could do with a few more sessions though she agrees that might be a good idea (I bet!). He apologises for being a pain but she's enjoying helping him out. She tells him to come over to hers that night, Mrs Mangel will be at a council meeting. The phone rings - it is Sally for Henry. He comes out in his towel, which Scott tries to pull off. Sally tells Henry she can't make it for their date, but won't tell him why. He hangs up in amazement - "I have been stood up twice in two days, who does this chick think she is?!".
At the Robinsons
Lucy is upset that Beverly won't be coming for dinner. She asks Helen if Steven is an ex-boyfriend of Beverly's. Helen tells her to mind her own business. She suggests that Steven will be really cheesed off when he finds out about Beverly and Jim.
At Bev's apartment
Steven tells Beverly he crashed his car because he was rushing to get to her. He's finalised things at home - his work, his life, his house, even every chance he had of getting back with Karen again. Beverly doesn't know what to say. She can't believe he has given everything up for her. When Steven tells her he'd seen her ad in the paper for a doctor she realises he's thinking they'll go into partnership. He agrees and says she needed to see he was prepared to make sacrifices. He asks her about Jim and she tells him they are good friends but not committed to anything - although this doesn't mean he has a chance either. Steven asks if he can stay there for the night.
At the Robinsons
Lucy comes in all dressed up and Helen tells her again that Beverly probably isn't coming for dinner. Lucy doesn't mind, she felt like getting changed anyway. The doorbell goes and it becomes clear why - Mike is here to tutor her. They go into the kitchen and Helen answers the phone to Beverly. She is pleased to hear Steven isn't seriously injured but wonders what he is doing in Erinsborough. Beverly tells her he has come down from Adelaide to visit but doesn't know how long he'll be staying. They agree to catch up the next day.
At Beverly's apartment
Steven asks if it was Jim on the phone. He hears that Jim is in the States and says that makes him "Johnny on the spot" (What??). Beverly makes it clear that even though there is no commitment she is not prepared to throw away her friendship with Jim for him. He apologises for pressuring her, but she means a lot to him. They hold hands.
At the Clarkes
Eileen is falling asleep watching TV and Des is itching to leave to see Sally. Just as he makes a break for it Eileen wakes up. He pretends he was just going for a walk and she says she will come with him. He decides he will go to the Waterhole instead. Eileen fusses that he's turning into his father. He grabs his coat and runs out of the door.
At Mrs Mangels
Scott is sketching Jane while she marks his work. She sees and says it is excellent. He tells her they are putting the best things from the art exam on display in December and she grabs her diary to make a note. Scott teases her for keeping a diary and gets her to read bits of it out. It is from just after she moved into Ramsay Street and goes on about people calling her plain Jane. She writes that she is interested in one guy in particular and Scott butts in that that must be Mike. It clearly isn't but Jane agrees with him and hides the diary away. Scott dreams of how her diary will be in the future when she's a famous model in Rome or Paris. She says that sort of thing has been written about a million times and no-one would be interested. Naughty Scott says he's already hooked...
At the coffee shop
Sally gives Des his photo back and says she had a very good reason for taking it - he'd better sit down. The scene cuts to a few minutes later and the two are chatting over coffee, Des commenting that he's glad she's told him and she should have done it earlier. There is a knock at the door - it's Henry who's seen them through the glass. He asks Des what's going on. Sally says they had to do a stock take. Henry queries why Sally didn't tell him that - he wasn't born yesterday. He obviously thinks they're having an affair and walks out.
At the Robinsons
Lucy pesters Mike to stay longer but Helen insists it's way past her bedtime. She packs her off to bed and warns Mike that Lucy has quite a crush on him. Nice way to chase off Lucy's tutor Helen! He makes a quick exit.
At Mrs Mangels
Scott is still working on his sketch of Jane. She tells him to get on with his revision. Mike comes in - "Hard at it I see" (!) Jane runs off to make coffee and Mike comments that he bets Charlene doesn't know Scott is drawing Jane and that Scott is spending more time with Jane than with his wife. Scott admits that he likes spending time with Jane - she's a nice girl and he can't understand why Mike broke up with her. Mike says he can't either. Scott tells him Jane loves him (Mike, although I wouldn't rule out Scott either...) and he should know because it's written in her diary in black and white. He helpfully points out the diary sitting on the table.
At Beverly's apartment
Beverly wheels out a fold up bed for Steven to sleep on. He's disappointed that he won't be sharing her bed. He tells her he's made his position clear to her and she says she needs to sleep on it - in her own bed, on her own.
At Mrs Mangel's
As Scott leaves Jane asks if she can have the sketch he's done of her. He won't let her until tomorrow - there are finishing touches he needs to do. She goes back into the living room and Mike asks if they can talk about things. She puts him off and says they can talk tomorrow, she's off to bed. He sees her diary, which miraculously opens straight to the page which tells of her attraction to one guy at school - he smiles as he reads "If ever there was a guy who's right for me, this guy is it", obviously thinking it's him. The diary continues "His name is Scott Robinson [Mike's face falls] I can't help the feelings I have for him but he'll probably never even notice me. I guess I'll have to learn to live with that because I know I'll never love anyone more than Scott." Poor Mike, poor Charlene!
