Robinsons
Helen and Jim are in the kitchen at nr 26. Paul and Gail walk in. They just took a break from the office to ask how Lucy was settling in, who was discharged from hospital. Paul notices the expressions on Helen and Jim's face, and he asks what's wrong. Helen says there are no complications with Lucy. But they just heard that Jim has to go to the States. Because he is being sued for some faulty piece of equipment he designed.
Paul and Gail look taken aback by this news. Gail says surely it's not Jim's fault (Jim looks rather chuffed with the support). But Jim has to fly to the States anyway. Paul says civil claims can run into millions in compensation. Jim is aware of this.
Helen says Lucy is not happy her dad has to leave. But obviously Jim has no choice, and he could lose his home and his business. Helen tells Paul and Gail that Lucy is in the garden. Jim tells Paul not to say anything to Lucy about the law suit, he wants her to focus on getting well. Paul offers his help and support, but Jim says there is nothing he can do (except divorce his wife ;-) ), but Jim thanks Paul for offering.
Gail asks whether the workshop can look after itself, while he's away. Jim doesn't expect any problems, everything is running smoothly he says.
The Garage
Charlene is ranting at Rob for leaving on her own all afternoon. He says he's been seeing a sick mate. Charlene says it's not good enough - some of the Lassiters clients weren't pleased and Charlene doesn't blame them.
Jim comes round to see Rob and Rob makes out everything is fine. Jim tells Rob he's got to go the USA for a while, and will Rob be able to cope while he's away. Rob says he's got the place running like clockwork(!)
Ramsays
Scott is still studying. His worst problem is maths.
Just then, Henry comes in with his bag. But he's not staying - there's just dirty washing in the bag. Madge says she won't do his washing if he's not living with them - she's not a laundry service. Scott asks Henry to come home and tells him he's not trying to take his place.
HENRY: No. You're the golden boy now.
SCOTT: Grow up, Henry.
Henry leaves. Madge tells Scott not to worry - it's not his fault.
Robinsons Garden
Lucy is lying on her trampoline crying. Paul joins her: "G'day munchkin. I was going to tell you how life has it's ups and downs. But that's a bit dumb for a girl lying on a trampoline, isn't it?" This gets a smile from Lucy. but she is still sad her father has to leave. She thinks it's not fair, and that Jim had promised to stay with her while she got better. Paul reassures she is far more important to Jim than business. Lucy thinks Jim hasn't shown how much he loves her. Paul argues that he has, he was so worried whilst she was sick. And now Jim really has no choice, he has to go away. Lucy says she doesn't understand anything, she gives up. But she gives Paul a big hug, thanking him for cheering her up.
Ramsays
Scott is still studying. Charlene wants to know when he'll be finished. He jokingly calls her "Edna" and she starts spraying him th a water spray! They sit down on the sofa and Charlene says she has something to tell Scott. She didn't tell him before because she didn't want to get Rob into trouble. She tells Scott about Rob going walkabout all the time - and now Jim is going to America.
CHARLENE: I reckon if the workshop had caught fire today, he'd have sat back and roasted marshmallows!
The Waterhole
Rob is looking forward to the fifties night. Madge tells him that she doesn't think she can come - she doesn't want Rob getting the wrong idea. He insists that he just likes her company. Madge says that as long as they've got that straight, she'll come.
Madge calls Henry over. He tells her he's taken his clothes to the launderette. Henry and BB are about to have a came of darts and invite Rob to join them.
Madge asks BB quietly to help her to convince Henry to come home - home and family has always meant a lot to Henry, and she thinks deep-down that he does want to come back. BB agrees to have a quiet word.
Robinsons
Lucy is picking at her food. Helen send her off to bed, saying that she needs sleep to aid her recovery. Lucy is reluctant to kiss Jim goodnight, saying if he loved her, he wouldn't be going away.
The Waterhole
BB gets a bullseye and wins the game. Rob heads off to see Gail at the office - apparently she and Paul are working late.
Henry puts a $50 note down as he takes his darts turn and Kenny looks it over. Then Henry picks it up and pays for his drinks with it.
The Office
Rob drops into the office, where Gail is working late (Paul is out for a sec to get something to eat). He is chatting to her about Madge, whilst she is rearranging papers and just being all busy . Rob comments that she and Paul are always thinking about business. And she has no time to talk to dear old dad. All work and no play (tell me about it!), and she should wake up and smell the roses, she should do as little as she can get away with.
Of course, Paul walks in just as Rob is saying that. Paul is not surprised this is Rob's philosphy. He's had quite a few complaints from guests, about their cars not being serviced. Rob says Charlene was very busy. But Paul says that's not good enough, and the guests expect good service. Rob says he's not taking that abuse from some "upstart" and that Jim is his boss. Gail's face is highly entertaining as she listens to Paul and Rob's conversation. Gail applauds Paul as she turns to face him, not saying anything. But Paul thinks he had every right to say that to Rob. And Paul is tired of Rob's slack attitude. Gail argues that Rob is still adjusting, and that he normally takes a lot of pride in his work. Paul buckles: "Oh, alright". Handing Gail their take-away: "I'll go and try to find him....Happy???". Gail's: "Most of the time" to Paul's back, has to be the most layered and entertaining line of the episode!!! Gail rocks!
The Waterhole
Paul comes in to look for Rob. He runs in on some dispute between Kenny, Henry and Madge about Kenny being shortchanged. He insists he paid with a $50, not a $5. Madge won't give him change for $50. Paul wants to sort it out. And since Kenny knows some of the serial number of the 50 dollar bill he allegedly gave Madge to pay for his drink (he looked at Henry's note earlier, the ratbag). Paul gives Kenny change for a $50. Paul is grumpy. Having trouble with the wife Paul???
Robinsons
Beverly and Jim are hanging out. Scott comes in for a word with Jim, saying it can't wait.
Ramsays
Madge comes in to find Charlene watching television. she tells Charlene about the incident with the $50 in the Waterhole. Apparently Henry accused Madge of victimising Kenny. Also she's agreed to go to the 50s night! But perhaps it's better than sitting round waiting for Harold to get his act together(!)
Scott comes back and tells Charlene that Jim freaked. They hug, sadly.
Robinsons
Jim, Beverly and Helen are chatting about Rob. Jim is steamed about Rob's behaviour - what does Rob think he's paying him for? Jim is going to tell Rob what's what.
The Office
Paul and Gail are in the office as Madge comes in. Gail makes a hasty retreat, with some excuse about having something to do elsewhere. Paul talks to Madge about the Waterhole incident. He thinks Henry may have cooked up some scheme with Kenny to get money from the Waterhole. Madge disagrees saying Henry isn't stupid, nor dishonest. Paul says he wants to talk to Henry first but Henry and Kenny are barred from the Waterhole until Henry can prove he didn't have anything to do with it. Also, he won't be allowed to work at Lassiters again. Madge looks shocked.
