Recap
Mrs Mangel uses her recent heart scare to her advantage.
At the Ramsays:
Henry is rushing off to work while Madge sets the table for herself and Rob. He teases her about moving Rob in the minute Harold's out but she doesn't see the funny side. Charlene comes in and teases her as well. Henry invites her and Scott to the Waterhole with him, he thinks it'd be good for Scott to get out and stop worrying about Lucy for a couple of hours. Madge panics - she doesn't want to be left alone with Rob. Charlene agrees to stay with her but talks Scott into going out. As they are leaving Rob arrives with a massive bouquet for Madge. He tells her that tonight means a lot to him.
At the Robinsons:
Jane calls round with a gift for Lucy - a stuffed toy of hers that Lucy always liked. Jim tells her they still aren't sure if the tumour was malignant, or if the paralysis is permanent. Jane tells them her mum has gone back to Hong Kong, and even though she is sad the people she cares about are right here in Ramsay Street.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Nell feebly calls for Mr Bishop, then shouts a lot louder when he doesn't hear. He comes in and is tetchy at her wanting her water bottle filled up again. Jane comes home and Nell tells her she was lonely without her - she thinks Harold resents the fact that she's ill. He comes in with the hot water bottle and she moans that there's too much air in it. He grabs it back and squeezes the air out, squeezing water over himself in the process. Nell isn't one bit grateful and knew she should have done it herself. Jane warns Mrs M about taking advantage of him, and informs her she should take advantage of her either. She had enough of that from her mother.
At the Ramsays:
Charlene flatters Rob by going on about what a brilliant mechanic he is - and what a brilliant mechanic she could be too if she had the chance. He is guilty but doesn't know if he could be counted on at the moment. He promises to think about it and she goes off to her room, leaving the two oldies to chat - until Harold comes to visit with a tiny posy of flowers. He wheedles his way in, but gets his back up the minute he sees Rob. Madge tells them both to sit down and behave, or they'll both leave.
Later:
Harold and Rob are still bickering. Harold peevishly tells Rob Madge has just taken pity on him, and would do the same for a stray dog. Rob shoots back that at least he has red blood running through his veins, not carrot juice. They square up to each other and Rob offers Harold outside, before Madge tells him to leave as well. He leaves in shock. Madge sits down and Rob informs her that Harold just told him he was about to propose to her again - can she believe it? She looks distraught.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Harold comes back all upset from Madge's and tells them she is entertaining Rob Lewis. Alone. Nell - "No!". He rabbits on about how Rob should be in jail after what he did to him, but Nell thinks Rob is just about what Madge deserved. He traipses off to bed and Jane shouts at Mrs Mangel, telling her it's none of her business. She plays the heart trick again but Jane sees straight through it. She tells her she loves her, but she's not to try any of that nonsense with her.
At the Ramsays:
Rob is going on about his old gambling habits and tells Madge he had nowhere else left to go. He wants to make amends now, and does want Charlene to have her apprenticeship. Madge points out that he has to live his life for himself not everyone else and he thanks her for being a good friend. He leaves and Charlene thinks it's safe to make a reappearance. Madge asks where she was when she needed her and she honestly replies - "Hiding!" She told Madge what would happen if Harold caught her with Rob. Madge sits down and says she's sorry Rob didn't stay longer - there's more to that man than meets the eye. She's even more upset about Harold though, she doesn't think he'll be back.
At the hospital:
Jim is nervous about going in to see Lucy. He doesn't know what to say if she asks her if she'll get better. Bev comes along with good news - the tumour was benign. Smiles all round, until she reminds them they don't know if the paralysis will get better.
Inside:
They give Lucy the good news about the tumour and she asks why she can't move then? She wants Jim to promise she'll get better but he can't. He tells her they just have to wait and see and, looking on the bright side, Lucy says at least there's no homework.
At the Ramsays:
Scott and Henry are laughing about their darts game at the pub. Henry's thinking of getting a darts team together and Scott agrees to be part of it. He gets out a big plate of food and encourages Scott to dig in, but Scott is reluctant - he and Charlene only pay so much board. Henry calls him an idiot and chucks a chicken leg at him.
At the hospital:
Lucy is crying. She's been thinking about being paralysed permanently and all the things she'll never do again. She shouts at Beverly that she wishes she'd died.
At the Robinsons:
Jim is annoyed that Beverly didn't tell him about Lucy last night. He wants them to work shifts so that someone is with Lucy at all times. Bev says that isn't the answer - she needs company her own age. And she has someone special in mind.
At the Ramsays:
Madge is on the warpath about Henry and Scott cleaning out the fridge the night before. She gives Henry a book with all the accounts in. He moans that he already pays as much as Scott and Charlene put together. Scott is embarrassed and says from now on he and Charlene will pay their own way. He goes out to clean the pool and Madge sighs that she didn't mean this to happen.
Outside:
Charlene tells Scott he could have asked her opinion before giving all their money away. It's okay to have pride but they can't afford it, and they'll have no way of saving up if they give everything to Madge. He's already thought about that, he's getting a part time job. She yells even more and tells him she can do without things, as long as she doesn't have to do without him.
At the hospital:
Lucy apologises for her behaviour last night. Beverly tells her she has a visitor coming to see her but Lucy doesn't want to see anyone. She rants at Jim about it being up to her who she sees and in her temper she squeezes his hand. They are both over the moon.
