Ramsays
Scott answers the door to Eileen. She's come to tell everyone the news about the baby. Madge informs her that they already know but are thrilled for all of them. Madge leads Eileen to the living room where Melanie is still cackling. Eileen and Melanie know each other, as they are neighbours. Eileen tells them about the baby and Charlene asks if they have a name yet. Eileen says she is hoping for the family name of Winston Kingsley Clarke. Melanie starts laughing.
Clarkes
Des is telling Paul and Gail about the birth, he still can't believe that his son was born on a picnic. Paul is pouring champagne and says it's a great story for a father to tell at his sons 21st. Des wonders what the baby will be like at 21.
Gail: Can you imagine what we'll be like in 21 years time?
They make a toast to Des, Daphne and the baby and Des tells them how much love he felt for Daphne today. Des is overwhelmed and doesn't understand why Daphne chose him when she could have had any guy she wanted. Gail tells Des that Daphne loves him; anyone can see that. She says they are the most loving couple in Ramsay Street. Des comments that Scott and Charlene are too and then adds Paul and Gail to the list. He tells Paul he's so happy to see he and Gail so much in love. He thinks it won't be long before they too have a baby. Paul and Gail are a tad cagey and Gail changes the subject to Mike. Des tells them Mike has gone to Canberra and so hasn't seen the baby yet.
Hospital
Mike arrives with some flowers for Daphne. It's nighttime and so he sneaks into her room. He tells her about the argument with Scott and says that's the reason he went to Canberra. They talk about the baby and Daphne tells him he looks like Des. She also tells him that Des fainted. The matron arrives and Daphne tells her Mike is the baby's older brother. But she orders him to leave and tells Daphne to get some rest.
Ramsays
The dinner party is still in full swing and everyone is playing games. Madge thinks Henry should take Melanie home. Melanie thinks that's a good idea and says that her mother enjoys a laugh.
EILEEN: Oh yes when Melanie and her mother laugh the entire neighbourhood can hear them.
Melanie thanks everyone for a nice evening, especially Charlene for cooking dinner. Scott can't resist telling one last joke just to hear Melanie's laugh. Charlene isn't impressed and says she is going to have to do something about their relationship. Eileen informs Madge that Melanie has a new boyfriend every week and says she doesn't want to see Henry get hurt now that he is turning into a nice young man.
The following morning and Charlene is miffed that Madge has made everyone's breakfast, as she wanted to cook for Scott. They make plans to meet at the Coffee Shop so that Madge can show Charlene the ropes. Henry is in a daze thinking about Melanie.
CHARLENE: I was dreaming about her laugh last night. I know this sounds awful but she kept turning into a seal.
Before Henry goes to work Charlene tells him she is going to invite Melanie out today so that she can get to know her better. Scott tells Charlene to stay out of it but Charlene says she is looking out for Henry, as she doesn't want him to be cheated on.
Clarkes
Mike is on the phone to Megan and asks how the party went. He tells her he didn't make it because Daphne had the baby. Megan doesn't sound too excited and Mike tells her he'll call her later. Des is looking at baby's names and Mike tells him that he might take a trip to Canberra to make things up to Megan. Des tells him he can't unless he wants to fall behind with his studies.
Madge arrives and congratulates Des. She advises him not to call the baby Fred. She asks him if Daphne passed on the news about Charlene cooking for the Coffee Shop but it seems she hasn't. Des is a bit shocked.
No 22
Scott has brought some food for Paul and Gail. He tells Gail it was left over from Charlene's cooking spree. She says she and Paul can't eat it all by themselves and invites Scott and Charlene over for dinner. Scott brings up the subject of Gino and Paul tells Gail that Gino faked all of his references. Scott tells Paul to go easy on Gino, as he is a decent bloke. But Paul is annoyed that he recommended Gino to Daphne.
The Coffee Shop
Gino tastes Charlene's cooking and says it tastes great. Mike tells Gino that Paul is waiting to see him. Paul confronts Gino about his fake references and tells him he has spoken to his father about it. Gino is upset but Paul says after looking at his father's references he has offered him a job at Lassiters. Gino is thrilled.
Hospital
Des tells Daphne that Gino's father will start work at Lassiters as soon as he gets better, and then Gino will go back to college. Eileen arrives and keeps referring to the baby as Winston. Daphne tells her they are not calling the baby Winston. Gino arrives and tells Des and Daphne he's sorry about what happened. He gives them flowers and tells them that Charlene is doing a great job cooking.
Meanwhile outside the matron calls for the doctor; baby Clarke is having problems.
The Coffee Shop
Melanie arrives to see Charlene and Charlene says she'd like to get to know her better. Charlene introduces her to Mike and Gino and talks about how hot they are. She leaves Melanie and Gino to talk and hopes something will happen between them.
Hospital
Madge is visiting and wishes she could have seen the baby. Daphne tells her the matron is strict and hasn't even brought Jamie around for his next feed. Madge has to leave and sees Eileen and Mrs Mangel are waiting outside. She tells Eileen that Des will tell her when she can see the baby as they are waiting for him to arrive for his feed. Mrs Mangel smiles to Madge but Madge ignores her and walks off. Mrs Mangel has flowers for Daphne but isn't sure she will accept them. Eileen can't give her any answers, as she is preoccupied with not being able to see Jamie.
The matron goes to see Des and Daphne and tells them the baby won't be coming for his feed. She tells them that Beverly will explain shortly.
