Recap
Des expresses his disdain for Phil Nolan to Daphne.
Clive's
Clive arrives back from his grandfather's funeral. He finds Susan with Sam because Sam isn't very well - Clive asks if it's because Sam has been missing Clive(!) Clive cuddles Sam and Susan is relieved he's home to take the pressure off her a bit. Clive offers to bath Sam - he says he's missed him!
Outside the Coffee Shop
Helen is stressing about getting everything ready to go on her trip to New York to see Rosemary. Paul is off to value the Ramsay Street properties to sell - he says he'll give Clive and Madge first option to buy though.
Helen comments that Daphne look exhausted. Jim says that they're having a bit of a lovers tiff over Phil Nolan.
Robinsons
Nikki is badgering Laura about resting, just for a change(!) Laura says everyone is washed out after a cricket match, but Nikki wants her to stop pretending that there's nothing wrong with her. She's afraid that Laura will do herself and injury, but Laura thinks Nikki is exaggerating. Laura says she just wants to keep doing things as long as she can.
Clive's
Nikki comes to see Clive about Laura. She tells him that she's really worried about Laura, but Clive says that it's Laura's decision how she chooses to lead her life. Clive says he'd like to help, but he's not an expert on MS. He says he does have a friend who knows all about MS - he'll see if he can invite her around to talk to Laura.
Clarkes
Des comes in late from work. Daphne tells him that Phil has gone to pick up some groceries because he wants to make them dessert.
DAPHNE: You're behaving like some jealous little kid and I refuse to put up with it!
Des says that Phil is trying to steal his wife from under his nose(!) but Daphne says he's a good friend and Des had better not offend him.
Clive's
Laura and Nikki come in. Clive introduces them to Peggy O'Hara - a counsellor at an MS clinic. Laura isn't pleased and tells Nikki that she doesn't like being tricked. Peggy says she'll just tell Laura what she knows about MS and Laura reluctantly agrees.
Peggy tells them all about MS and its symptoms. She explains that every MS case is different - noone can predict it. She says 80-85% of people with MS can lead normal lives. Nikki is surprised - she thought that Laura would definitely end up in a wheelchair and die!
Clarkes
Daphne has really enjoyed Phil's dessert. She and Phil reminisce about the past while Des fumes. Daphne tells Des off for being rude to her guest but Des goes on a rant - all he's heard recently is what a good time Daphne and Phil used to have together. Phil agrees that they have been a bit insensitive - he says he'll find a hotel for tonight because he leaving for Brisbane tomorrow anyway. Des is a bit surprised that Phil has been so reasonable about it and offers to give him a lift to the hotel. Des admits to Daphne that Phil isn't such a bad bloke after all(!)
Clive's
Peggy says that Laura needs support and understanding, not mothering. Peggy surprises them by telling them that she's got MS herself - she was diagnosed about 8 years ago. But she's adjusted to it and she looks after herself mostly. She says that her family try to treat her like an invalid - and that's the hardest thing to deal with. Nikki realises that she's been overreacting too. She tells Laura that shes really sorry.
Robinsons
Ruth is making a cup of tea for herself, Jim and Laura while Laura tells them what happened at Clive's. Nikki comes in and tells Laura that she's going to America with Helen tomorrow - she and Helen have arranged it secretly! Laura says she can't just drop everything and go. Nikki says that she can stay on with the Robinsons and do her exams in Erinsborough. They make a pact - if Laura goes to America now, Nikki will agree to go next year on the Student Exchange programme. Laura says that Peggy has worked miracles!
Clarkes
Daphne is in a right mood when Clive drops in to see what their news is. Daphne tells him that she's not pregnant yet - but she's already married to a baby(!)
Daphne asks Clive if he's glad to be back with Susan and Sam. She thinks Susan is making him feel "all warm inside".
CLIVE: Maybe just a little, but nothing serious.
DAPHNE: Clive!
CLIVE: OK, it might be serious, but what have I got to offer?
DAPHNE: What's any man got?!
Clive says that at least Des has got a job and a house and some security - he's got nothing. Apparently Clive's father says the same thing. His Uncle Ted is going to visit soon - he's a top neurosurgeon in the USA - and his dad wants Clive to impress him. Daphne says that Clive would never get involved in any crazy scheme(!)
Outside the Robinsons
Laura is leaving for the airport. She tells Nikki that she's going to adjust to the MS and she's not scared anymore. They hug goodbye. Paul hugs Helen goodbye too. Finally Ruth wishes Helen luck in the USA and Lucy kisses Helen. They get into the car and leave for the airport.
Clive's
Paul calls round to see Clive about the house. He tells him that Lassiter's wants to sell and he wants to give Clive first option. Clive says he doesn't know how he'd raise the deposit, let alone money for the repayments.
Clarkes
Daphne has made Des sleep in the spare room. He tells Daphne over breakfast that he apologises to Phil last night and she is pleased. He admits that he was jealous because he loves Daphne so much. Daphne hugs him and they have a bit of a pash.
Clive runs in and excitedly asks Des if he gets the deposit, takes over Graham's surgery and goes back to being a doctor, could he get a mortgage from the Pacific Bank? Des says it's not up to him - Clive will have to prove that he's serious and will provide a steady income. But basically, the answer is yes. Clive is delighted and says that the world is about to see a new Clive Gibbons. He runs off.
Clive's
Susan is ironing a dress to wear to work when Clive runs in. She's rushing to get to work but Clive makes her sit down.
SUSAN: Can't you ever be serious?
CLIVE: I am being serious.
SUSAN: Get up.
CLIVE: In a minute. Will you marry me?
Susan laughs but then realises that Clive is serious.
