Paul tells Helen about the supermarket deal - and that Rosemary was the one who set it up.
Paul explains that Rosemary isn't as sentimental as Helen - she's in business to make money. Helen goes off to talk to Jim, but Paul wants to talk to him first. He says it's a business matter, not a family one.
HELEN: Is that how you're going to explain it to Lucy?
Paul says he can't stop her telling Jim, but anything discussed in the office should be confidential. Helen starts to cry and says that Anne brought a family up in that home before she died, and even if it doesn't mean much to Paul, it means a great deal to her.
PAUL:(into the intercom) Susan, would you come in for some dictation, please?
Susan takes a letter down from Paul - one informing all the residents about the supermarket development.
Clive is giving Madge a hand, but she seems to have got the job under control now. Ray Murphy comes in (the bloke who Madge nearly lost her job over). Clive wanders off for a bit, leaving Ray to chat up Madge!
The Bridge at Lassiters
Clive sees Jane and Charlene looking glum. They tell him about the cheerleading situation and how Scott and Mike are mocking them. Clive says he knows a choreographer and he'll can get her to help them with a routine.
The Coffee Shop
Charlene, Jane and Clive come in. Clive uses the Coffee Shop phone to ring his friend.
The choreographer (Jenny) is in bed with a cold. She tells Clive he still owes her $100. She hangs up.
Ray is chatting to Madge about divorce. She says she knows how he feels. Ray shows Madge pictures of his kids, who he only sees on the weekend. Madge wishes Fred was more like Ray - Fred has never shown much interest in his children. Ray tells Madge that he's about to sell his house - a development company wants his to buy his house. He gets up to go and thanks Madge for listening to him this afternoon. Madge says she's enjoyed it.
The Coffee Shop
Clive can't understand why Jenny hung up on him! He rings her back and tells her not to hang up. He tells her about the cheerleading audition and exaggerates Jane and Charlene's talents, saying they could be in a Broadway musical(!) Finally Jenny agrees to help as long as Clive repays her $100!
Charlene and Jane are delighted.
Susan comes in having posted Paul's letter to the residents. She also dropped a letter into Des at the bank. Susan asks why there wasn't a letter for Clive. Paul explains that Clive's house is rented and the owner has already agreed to sell. Susan realises that she, Clive and Sam will have to find somewhere else to live. Helen is further appalled with Paul, and says that she's ashamed of him. She walks out. Susan looks worried. Paul says he won't leave her stranded.
The Coffee Shop
Helen is seething at a table. Daphne has heard the news from Des and she's equally angry. Apparently Des is considering the offer!! but Daphne says he will sell over her dead body! Daphne says she's had enough of Paul - first he tried to get her kicked out of her business and now her home.
Jane and Charlene are practising their cheerleading with pompoms. Jane is doing quite well because she's done dance classes for years, but Charlene isn't doing so well. They continue to practise.
Clive is teasing Madge about Ray Murphy being her boyfriend - he says Ray seems pretty keen. Just then Ray comes back in and asks Madge to go out with him tonight. Madge says she couldn't - she doesn't mix business with pleasure. Clive encourages her, but Madge becomes very flustered. She gives Ray her phone number and tells him to call her later. When Ray has gone, Clive talks Madge into going out with Ray. She is quite nervous though.
The Coffee Shop
Paul comes in and sits at a table. Daphne greets him extremely coldly and tells him he won't succeed in taking her house off her. Paul says she could buy a bigger and better house somewhere else, but Daphne doesn't want to leave the community. She bans Paul from the Coffee Shop!
Susan comes in to talk to Clive - she tells him that Paul Robinson has bought their house of the owner and is going to demolish the house! Clive is appalled that Paul hasn't said a word to him. Susan is sad and says that nothing ever works out for her. Clive says it'll be OK - the three of them will move, but they'll stay together.
Jane and Charlene are still rehearsing. Madge comes in - she's been to the hairdresser. Charlene laughs that Madge has found a bloke. Charlene tells Madge that Uncle Tom called and Madge won't like the contents of the message he left. Apparently he's had an offer from Paul Robinson for the house, so he's decided to sell!
MADGE: But if Tom sells this place, where will we live?
Apparently Tom says not to worry, he'll see them right.
MADGE: Charlene, you don't seem to understand. If Tom sells this house, we'll both be homeless!
