Nikki tells Helen and Jim that the Ramsays have made up.
Laura asks Nikki to come into town with her but she doesn't want to - or spend any time with her mother.
Laura says that maybe it's just a phase with Nikki - and also her coming was a surprise, so it's normal that Nikki would have plans.
When Laura and Jim have gone out, Helen calls Nikki into the kitchen and tells her off for blanking her mother. She's very cross and says that Nikki should make an effort. Nikki says she just can't relax around her mother - she doesn't know why. Helen says that Laura has dedicated her whole life to Nikki and she could make a bit more of an effort. Nikki agrees.
Laura is jogging with no sign of a sports bra (oh dear!) She sees Max and they greet each other enthusiastically. She tells him she thought his heart scare incident was hilarious!
Danny, Zoe, Shane and Daphne are talking about the engagement party. They want to have fancy dress with a theme - "Great Lovers"!
When the boys have gone, Zoe tells Daphne that she's got someone in mind for a date to the party - someone they both know.
Shane and Danny asks Madge who she's going to the party with. She says she's thinking of asking Jim Robinson. Max still isn't happy about the engagement party - he doesn't understand why it has to be fancy dress.
DANNY: Dad's the great lover of Ramsay Street!
MAX: Yeah, too right!
Laura comes back from jogging and finds Nikki there with Helen and Jim - Nikki has decided not to go to play tennis after all. Nikki asks Laura to go for a swim and she says that'll be fine - Max said they could use his pool. Jim thinks that Helen should be up for the Nobel Peace Prize!
They talk about the engagement party - Helen is going to get a Maid Marian costume for Lucy, but apparently she isn't too chuffed that Bradley couldn't go as Robin Hood! She's going to invite Craig instead. Neither Helen or Paul have a date yet, so Helen suggests that she and Jim go together - as Victoria and Albert.
Max and Danny are having a laugh in the kitchen when Laura pops around. Madge hugs her in greeting and Max sends Danny off to sort the pool out. Nikki is still rather subdued.
As Laura and Nikki go out to the pool, Zoe calls around to help Madge with the party organisation. She says she's going to go as Juliet, and she's hoping Jim will come with her as Romeo! Madge looks a bit put-out.
Garden of No.24
Max, Laura and Danny are in the pool and Nikki is sitting on the edge. Danny comes to join her and she tells him she's embarrassed by her mother. Danny says she's just enjoying herself. Danny invites Nikki to the party - he can be Prince Charming to her Snow White.
Zoe tells Shane that she's really good at parties - once she had one where the costumes and food were all green, then raves on and on until Shane is driven mad!
Zoe comes in to asks Jim to go to the party with her as Romeo. However, he's made arrangements with Helen, which Zoe takes very good-naturedly. She goes off to find someone else.
ZOE: Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?!
Garden of No.24
Nikki is still sitting on the side of the pool looking left out. Laura encourages her to come in, but Nikki snaps, saying Laura is acting like a teenager. Laura gets cross and says that Nikki might as well go if she embarrasses her that much. Nikki runs off.
Danny goes after Nikki and tells her to lighten up a bit. Nikki tells Danny that she doesn't want to go to the party with him anymore.
Zoe invites Paul to be her date to the party, but he refuses to wear a costume. He caves in when he hears he will be Romeo, though. Zoe drags him off to look at the costume.
Danny comes in from the pool, moaning to Madge that he'll never understand women. Shane and Daphne come in with some decorations and asks Madge if she's asked Jim yet, but Madge says that he's going with Zoe. Danny offers to take Madge instead, after all, they're both dateless!
Nikki apologises to Laura when she gets back from swimming. Laura is not happy and says she has to accept people for how they are. Nikki says that behaviour is important to her, and maybe she expects too much. Laura and Nikki agree to try a bit harder with each other. Nikki goes to get her costume for the party to show Laura.
Danny is moaning that he doesn't have a date for the dance. Max says he's going on his own. Daphne suggests that he and Madge go together - after all, they are the hosts. Max reluctantly says that he might as well - as long as the costume isn't too embarrassing.
Paul comes in and Jim offers him a sandwich. Paul shows Jim his Romeo costume. Paul is angry to hear that he wasn't Zoe's first choice!
Paul throws Zoe's costume back at her, saying he's not a substitute for his father. He thinks Zoe is disgusting for carrying on with Jim - he's twice her age! Then he storms off. Zoe slams the door.
