Terese's Office
Paul shuts the door and asks Scarlett what she 'thinks' she knows about the camera. Scarlett replies that it was found in room 402. Paul tries to call her bluff by saying there was no footage recorded, but Scarlett points out it's still not a good look for Lassiters. Paul asks Scarlett what she wants but before she can reply, Terese and Pierce arrive for a meeting. Scarlett pretends she was just delivering some guest feedback to Paul, playing up on the fact that Lassiters has "an amazing reputation".
Number 32
Amy finds Kyle, David and Aaron trying to figure out the bodyguard roster for Scarlett, but it's proving difficult. David's on call most of next week and Aaron has a lot of PT sessions, plus they have tickets to drag bingo. Amy doesn't understand why the boys just don't install home security, but she freezes up when David mentions installing cameras too. Kyle senses her discomfort but David and Aaron remain unaware.
Terese's Office
Pierce says the Cup Carnival have agreed to keep them on board as a partner, despite the marquee mishap last week. Terese is relieved the Melbourne Cup tour of Erinsborough can still go ahead. When Pierce leaves, Terese comments on how distracted Paul has been throughout the meeting and asks if there's a problem. Paul lies and says he's feeling flat because he missed his morning coffee. Terese isn't happy with this answer and asks again if there's something she should know about but Paul says it's nothing he can't handle.
Lassiters Hotel
Paul walks into the staff room and finds Ned discarding a bag of foul-smelling food he found in his locker. Scarlett had been complaining about a stench as her locker is next to his. Ned says that he hopes Paul hasn't been throwing his weight around with Scarlett again but Paul says he's just getting to know a new employee.
PAUL: What's your take on her?
NED: All she wants is to get her life back on track after her psycho ex. She wants to do her job and earn some money.
PAUL: Are you saying that she's struggling financially?
NED: People have got to work to live, Paul.
PAUL: Yeah, unless there's something else motivating her.
NED: She's a porter at your hotel. There's no devious agenda here. Stop being so paranoid.
Number 32 Bathroom
Kyle walks in as Amy's splashing cold water on her face. He tells her that David and Aaron have gone out to buy a security system - it'll be pricey but worth it. Amy says she knows it was her idea but the thought of having cameras around the place has made her feel really uneasy. Kyle reassures her the cameras will only be outside the house and everything's password protected. Their conversation is halted when Amy gets a phone call from Aidan who was part of the Robinson Pines project.
The Waterhole
Scarlett hastily closes her laptop when Paul finds her for a chat. He smugly thinks he's got a read on her and offers her a "substantial start-up fund" if she moves away from Erinsborough. But Scarlett laughs at him and says she doesn't want his money.
SCARLETT: I like Erinsborough. I don't want to leave.
PAUL: So what do you want?
SCARLETT: I want to keep my job, and you can make sure I am always rostered on with Ned.
PAUL: Ned? What's so special about him?
SCARLETT: He looks after me.
PAUL: So I do that and you keep quiet about the camera, yeah?
SCARLETT: Promise.
Paul can't believe all this game playing has just come down to Scarlett having a crush on Ned, but Scarlett just replies that he can take or leave the deal. Paul's like, 'fine, whatever, it's a deal', but he won't be so 'fine, whatever' when he realises that Scarlett has an SD card with footage of Kyle and Amy's hotel romp in her possession (along with two other as yet unseen movie files).
A short while later, Scarlett self-assuredly sips her coffee and stares at Paul sitting with his back to her at the counter. Terese finds Paul and asks if he's sorted his problem out and Paul replies that it was easier than he thought. They head to a table to look over the end-of-month report and call Lucy. Ned joins Scarlett and says he hopes Paul still isn't giving her a hard time. He's surprised when Scarlett says they're now on the same page. Scarlett's chuffed when she realises Ned had a word to Paul on her behalf and offers to buy him a drink. Ned suggests another location so they leave, and Scarlett gives Paul a cheeky wave on her way out.
Number 32
Amy tells Kyle that Aidan Townsend, who consulted on Robinson Pines, has a new country club development outside of Eden Hills and asked if she wanted to interview for the project manager gig. Kyle's stoked for her, and while Amy agrees it's an amazing opportunity, it would also mean stepping back from The Handywoman. Plus she'd have to answer to a boss, but Kyle reminds her Aidan probably won't be a nightmare like her dad was. Kyle encourages her to go for it and offers to help out with her business if she gets the gig.
The 82
Scarlett and Ned have a drink outside the tram. Scarlett says that she hopes Paul won't give Ned a hard time for coming to her defence. Ned replies he can put up with a few dirty looks if Paul wants to make a big deal out of it, "Though I doubt Terese will let him. She sticks up for family." Ned's worried he's said something wrong by mentioning family and admits that Bea told him about Scarlett's family dying in the car crash.
SCARLETT: It's okay. I lied to you about it before because whenever I tell people they always look at me like the poor orphan girl whose family all died. And I didn't want you to look at me like that. I just wanted you to see me for me.
NED: Nothing changes between us.
SCARLETT: Good, because I love what we have. (She leans in) And there is no one I would rather be with.
NED: (he pauses, trying to keep it casual) And by 'be with' you mean spend time with.
SCARLETT: Well, that, obviously. And... more? I don't know; I just feel like we click. Don't you?
NED: (put on the spot) Scarlett you're amazing, you really are. But the thing between me and Yashvi, it's still there despite everything. And I'm not ready for anything else.
Scarlett's visibly disappointed, so Ned says he's still happy to help her smooth things over with Paul and invites her to dinner that night. He reiterates that nothing changes between them, which means they're still friends. Scarlett smiles and accepts the offer, but she looks as though her plotting has started anew.
Number 32 Backyard
Aaron and David leave Kyle and Amy to install the security cameras as it's outside of their area of expertise. David says they all need to download the app and plug in the code they decided on that will lock and unlock the doors. Amy and Kyle finish the job and they're all about to settle in for a congratulatory beer when the alarm suddenly starts to blare. There's lots of shouting and yelling and plugging in of codes into apps but nothing's working.
Lassiters Hotel
Paul does a not-so-subtle stroll into the staff room and opens up Scarlett's locker to snoop around. He's not there long before Terese walks in and busts him, asking what the hell he's up to.
Number 32 Backyard
The alarm's still loudly going off and the boys and Amy are nowhere near remembering what the code is to silence it (Kyle's password suggestion of 1111 was ignored first time around). Things get dire until Amy discovers a reset code in the instructions and turns it off. Scarlett arrives home wondering what the heck's going on and is alarmed (heh) to discover a new security system is in place to foil any future brick-throwing plans. She says it must have cost them a fortune but David replies it's an investment, on the house and her safety.
Lassiters Hotel
Terese says that Paul invading the staff's privacy and being a workplace bully is the last thing she needs this week. Paul admits it was against his better judgement but he had to make sure Scarlett wasn't hiding anything. Terese is confused and asks if Scarlett's actually done anything to warrant Paul going through her locker. Paul lies and says no, so Terese growls that his vendetta needs to stop. Paul's then dismayed to learn that Ned has invited Scarlett to dinner at their place.
Number 32
Kyle has introduced Scarlett to the wonders of the security app and says the cameras are only on the outside of the house. Scarlett smirks to herself a bit and says that's probably for the best. Amy then walks in and tells them she's made the decision to interview for the project manager job, much to Kyle's delight.
Number 22
Ned, Scarlett, Terese and Paul are all sitting down for dinner but Scarlett only has eyes for Ned as a song not-so-subtly warbles in the background that, "It's obsession". Paul keeps asking Scarlett questions about Dubbo and Sydney, but she replies that there are too many bad memories associated there with her ex and other things. Ned says they don't have to keep talking about it and Scarlett changes the topic to the new security system at #32. She goes to show them something on her phone, but pretends she can't find it (when it's really in her handbag). Scarlett says she thinks she left it at The 82 earlier so Ned offers to go there with her to have a look.
Number 32 Backyard
Aaron, David, Kyle and Amy finish their dinner and the boys throw some positive vibes Amy's way for her job interview. David says he has to go to bed early to make the symposium in the morning, but when Aaron tries to put the code in the back door lock it doesn't work. It won't open for Kyle either and the reset code Amy tried earlier is in the instruction booklet - which is locked safely inside the house. Amy's had enough and heads home, leaving the boys to stress about their options.
AARON: Who bought this piece of junk?
DAVID/KYLE: You did!
The 82
Scarlett 'looks' for her phone alongside Ned, but they can't go inside the tram as the place is shut for the night. Scarlett thinks the dinner went well and thinks it was 'nice' Paul wanted to get to know her more. While Ned's back is turned, Scarlett puts her phone under one of the planters and pretends she's suddenly found it. She throws her arms around Ned for an ecstatic hug, but they're interrupted by a motorbike riding straight towards them. Ned pushes Scarlett out of the way but is clipped by the bike as it drives past and he falls heavily to the ground on his shoulder. Scarlett calls out Ned's name as the bike speeds away.
