Number 22
TERESE: Gail?! We didn't know you were coming...
GAIL: Yeah, well, I wanted to surprise you.
PAUL: Well, yeah, you succeeded there.
Paul introduces Gail to Terese.
ROXY: Are you wife number one or two?
Terese tells off Roxy for being rude and tells her to clean up the mess. Roxy and Harlow bicker amongst themselves.
ROXY: Bingo! You're wife number two, because first, there was that chick who shot him and then...
TERESE: Roxy! That's enough!
Terese apologises to Gail before suggesting Paul takes her outside so they can all have a chat.
Number 26
Gary and Amy are watching TV in the living room. They both awkwardly go to grab the remote. Sheila walks in having ironed some of Gary's shirts but he isn't best pleased, telling her to leave it alone in future. Amy sticks up for her but he makes it clear that he wouldn't have stuck around if he wasn't in debt. After he leaves, Sheila goes to do the washing up and Amy receives a text from Kyle asking if she'd like to meet at the tram early the next day. She says yes.
Number 22 Back Yard
GAIL: This has changed so much.
PAUL: Well it has been 12 years.
They discuss why Gail didn't call ahead.
GAIL: If I'm honest I didn't call ahead in case I lost my nerve.
PAUL: It takes nerve to see me now, does it?
GAIL: You know what I mean. The last time I was here...
PAUL: I know, I know, it was pretty confusing. We had just lost Cameron and my brain tumour was playing havoc with my memory.
Paul says a lot of time has passed since then, before Gail says she's concerned about Harlow after what she just saw between her and Roxy. Paul replies that they look up to Terese so she should be able to sort it out.
GAIL: So it's uh, wedding number 6? Or should I check that number with Roxy...?
Paul confirms that it is wedding number 6, admitting that he's made mistakes but he thinks he's getting it right this time.
The Waterhole
Yashvi asks Ned if he wants another drink but he replies that he has to crash. She says she'll stay over at his but he replies that Roxy texted, mentioning the drama between her and Harlow and that Paul's ex-wife has turned up. Yashvi suggests going to see a band at the pub in Anson's Corner but Ned has community service in the morning. Ned picks up on the fact that she's trying to avoid her dad and points out that continuing to do what annoyed him in the first place is only going to make things worse.
Number 22
Terese berates the girls for their behaviour but Roxy still manages to give her some lip. Terese says she's taking away their car privileges.
ROXY: Auntie T, I'm not a kid!
TERESE: Oh really, you could have fooled me!
Paul and Gail walk in from the backyard and Terese says they've nearly cleaned up. Gail says she has to go and check in at Lassiters anyway and Terese replies that they'll pay for the room. Harlow asks if Gail has come up from Tasmania and she nods. Harlow then asks how long she's staying for.
GAIL: As long as I'm needed.
They agree to meet at Harold's for breakfast the next day before Terese asks Harlow to see Gail out. Terese seems concerned by Gail saying she'll stay for 'as long as she's needed' but Paul insists he's on good terms with his ex-wife.
ROXY: Done! So...when are we going new wedding dress shopping?
Harold's Café
Harlow apologises for what Gail walked into yesterday.
HARLOW: Roxy pushed my buttons, she always does.
They talk about how Harlow dislikes Roxy's arrogant personality. They begin to discuss Robert and Harlow asks how often Gail sees him.
GAIL: 2 or 3 times a year.
She admits however that he's refused to see her since he briefly saw Paul. Harlow says he's refused to see her too which is a shame as she came all the way from the UK to get to know him. Gail offers to tell her more about him.
GAIL: Your dad was such a lovely boy. He was quiet but a great student. A bit like how you described yourself. What happened to Robert and who he became was tragic. He was so angry with Paul and so was I. But Robbie felt abandoned and...it festered.
HARLOW: Made him do awful things.
GAIL: I just wish I'd seen the signs. And looking back I realise there were some.
HARLOW: Grandad has a lot of regret too.
GAIL: Yeah...Well he only knew the Robert who tried to hurt him. He didn't know the funny, smart little boy that I knew. It only takes a few bad influences for someone's entire life path to change.
Harlow looks taken aback.
The 82
Kyle and Amy are all over each other appreciating the quiet space in the tram away from their families at home. As they're about to take things to the next level, Amy notices Gary park up in the distance, which puts a stop to their plans. Things feel awkward when Gary enters and Kyle remarks that Gary's arrived early, but he says he wanted to get away from Sheila for a bit.
Number 30
Yashvi enters, says hi to her mum before grabbing her bag and attempting to leave, but she's questioned before long. She says she's going to the community centre to study. Shane comes in from the backyard and the atmosphere becomes tense. Dipi offers Yashvi something to eat but she says she'll grab a coffee on the way.
SHANE: Oh that's healthy, I suppose you'll need it after getting in so late last night.
Yashvi just looks at her dad with contempt then walks out. Dipi and Toadie don't look impressed with Shane.
SHANE: Get back to me in 12 years, see how you deal with Nell in the same situation, hey.
Number 28
Finn, Sheila and Toadie are discussing the Bachelor Auction but Sheila looks half asleep. When the boys catch her attention, they re-commence but she soon starts talking about how things have turned south with Clive and Gary. She apologises before long though.
SHEILA: But hey, what am I doing sitting her whingeing? The court let me off easy because of this volunteer work so let's get cracking on that list of donors.
Lassiters Hotel
Terese bumps into Gail just as she's heading back up to her room. They make chit chat about the room and how things went at breakfast with Harlow. Gail soon makes her concerns about Roxy and Harlow known but Terese insists that things will settle down. When Gail doesn't seem convinced, she admits her concerns are more about Paul. Terese seems surprised as she thought there was no bad blood between them.
GAIL: No, but 12 years is a long time to reflect on things...I was married to him once. And since you're about to go down the same path...
TERESE: Yes, very happily, if you must know. Paul and I are very much in love.
GAIL: I remember being in love with him too. And I remember how quickly that can all fall apart and affect everyone around you.
TERESE: Why are you telling me this?
GAIL: I just worry. For you. For Harlow. And the fact that you and Paul might not be able to give her the stable home she needs. That's all.
The Handywoman
Kyle and Amy sneak into the office at the Handywoman and are all over each other, but again their romance is soon curtailed when Amy sees Gary in the distance through the window. The pair complain about their lack of alone time and Kyle says they need to do something about it.
Lassiters Hotel
Paul tells Terese that they should maybe invite Gail round for dinner but she doesn't seem too keen after their conversation earlier. She tells Paul about it; that Gail brought up her marriage to him and his and Terese's suitability to raise Harlow. Paul doesn't look happy about it but doesn't seem surprised.
TERESE: Paul, is there something you're not telling me?
Lassiters Complex
Roxy winds up Harlow on the complex as Gail watches in the distance. Paul arrives and she points at the two girls, clearly concerned. He confronts Gail about her conversation with Terese, asking if her nose is out of joint because they nearly got back together when she was last in town 12 years ago. She says her feelings for him are long gone and her concerns are only about their granddaughter.
GAIL: Clearly you aren't giving Harlow what she needs.
PAUL: You've been here 5 minutes; how can you possibly know what we can or can't give her?
GAIL: You didn't raise any of your 7 children and I raised 3 of them and the minute you come back into their lives all hell breaks loose!
PAUL: Hang on a second, are you blaming me for Robert and Cameron?
GAIL: I'm blaming both of us. For missing the warning signs. Things start off small. As small as that.
She points at Roxy winding up Harlow.
PAUL: You are blowing things out of proportion.
This winds up Gail, who replies that she doesn't think she is, especially considering Paul doesn't seem like he's changed, having just asked if she still has feelings for him and making everything about him as usual. She storms off.
Community Centre
Yashvi asks Ned if he needs any help and he replies that he wouldn't say no. Toadie walks in and tells Yashvi that she should be studying but she replies that she's multi-tasking. Toadie soon addresses the elephant in the room; Shane. Yashvi is upset about her father's behaviour and says that he doesn't like her dating Ned. Toadie replies that he's only worried about his daughter which is normal for every father.
TOADIE: Go home, stop avoiding him. Your charming personality will win him over eventually.
NED: He's right Vi. It's your dad. It's not worth fighting with him forever.
Lassiters Lake
Sheila asks Paul for the donation he pledged at the Bachelor Auction for the Sonya Rebecchi Foundation. He jibes her for not even saying please but she remains silent which seems unusual for her. He jokes that she usually has something to say back.
SHEILA: I've got nothing. And you've got everything. Planning the biggest wedding this side of Toorak with the woman you've been chasing for years with all your family around you and me...well Kyle and Amy are off in their own little world and...Gary won't have a bar of me and Clive just walked out.
PAUL: Yeah, well you were just charged with complicity.
SHEILA: But you have done far worse and got off scot free. You always come out completely untouched. And my life is a disaster.
Paul tells her that as usual she doesn't know what she's talking about, before calling her a meddler and that if Gary and Clive have both realized it, maybe the universe is trying to tell her something.
Harold's Café
Shane and Dipi bicker about the atmosphere in the house between him and Vi. He tries to stick up for himself but Dipi says they have to respect their daughter as an adult.
DIPI: You had a rough relationship with your family for many years and we don't want the same for Vi.
Gail's hotel room
Terese arrives to see Gail who thanks her for coming. Gail says she wanted to clear the air.
GAIL: There was a time when I loved Paul. But now all I feel is regret. Regret for my own mistakes. And the impact that turmoil had on our children.
TERESE: I'm not going to pretend that my relationship with Paul has been all roses either.
GAIL: I don't suppose it has. And I'm not making any judgments. If anything I commend you for taking Harlow in.
TERESE: She's family.
GAIL: As is Roxy.
TERESE: I'm not quite sure what you're getting at.
Gail admits that she thinks the best place for Harlow isn't with Paul and Terese in amongst the drama constantly created by Roxy.
GAIL: I want her to come and live with me in Tasmania...permanently.
Terese looks shocked.
