Finn explains to Elly that he asked Shaun to come back, to support him at his hearing. Elly makes it clear in no uncertain terms that she doesn't want Shaun here.
ELLY: We made a deal. You were meant to stay away!
SHAUN: You know it wasn't easy for me to walk away from this baby. And now things have changed.
Susan and Karl encourage them all to sit down and talk about it. But Elly replies that she has nothing to say, and walks out.
The Waterhole
Gary is whingeing about how Amy has swanned off without him; Sheila assures him Amy will be back soon, and that they will be able to sort things out. Gary isn't convinced, thinking he's stuffed things up forever with his surprise wedding.
SHEILA: Gary Francis Xavier Canning - pull yourself together! She is gonna come back, take one look at that self-pitying mug of yours, get into her ute and drive all the way back to Torquay!
Sheila says Gary will need to prove to Amy again that he's the man worth signing up for. She suggests that putting in a bid for Karl's tram tender would be one way of doing that. Gary seems keen, and goes over to talk to Karl, who has just come in. Gary admits they haven't seen eye to eye recently, but wants to put that behind them and 'talk tram'!
Lassiter's Lake
Bea finds Elly on a bench, feeling sorry for herself. Bea has heard about Shaun being back, and has come to offer support. They have a nice sisterly moment on the bench, as Elly admits she's so happy Bea is talking to her again. She's less happy that Finn has repaid her for her help figuring out where his memory about Harry came from, by inviting Shaun back into her life.
BEA: Are you going to hear Shaun out?
ELLY: I know he's the father. But he said he would stay away. This is making things so much harder with Mark. And imagine how he'll feel once he knows I'm talking to Shaun.
BEA: Yeah, I know it's awful. Look, it's just a thought - maybe Shaun could be someone for you to lean on.
ELLY: I don't want to lean on Shaun! I want my husband back! I just wish there was some way I could talk to him again.
Bea comforts a tearful Elly.

In the garden, David is updating Susan, Finn and Shaun on what's happened with the hearing. Toadie (who is Not In This Episode™) has told David that the courts have confirmed there will be no new hearing for Finn, now that it's clear his memory of Harry came from his teaching practice; so his original sentence stands.
FINN: And you're okay for me to still stay here?
SUSAN: As long as you're prepared to be honest with us from now on.
FINN: You have my word.
But Susan is still looking annoyed. David leaves, and Shaun then thanks Susan for everything she's done for Finn - saying it means a lot he's able to stay here.
SUSAN: Even though you blackmailed Elly so she'd talk us into it?!
SHAUN: I was desperate. I hoped you might understand!
FINN: I just hope Elly's willing to hear you out, so you can clear all this up.
SHAUN: I'm staying in town until we can talk, at least.
SUSAN: Things are still very raw between her and Mark.
SHAUN: I know. But after everything that's happened, Elly and I have a lot to figure out.
Susan looks unconvinced.

Bea turns up to see Mark.
MARK: If Elly's sent you, I don't want to hear it.
BEA: She doesn't know that I'm here. I know you don't want to talk to me. But I've been angry with her too.
MARK: Angry doesn't come close.
BEA: She betrayed all of us. How do you think I felt, when I found out why she wanted us to let Finn stay?
MARK: So what changed? She fed you a bunch of lies so you felt sorry for her?
BEA: She's made bad decisions, but that doesn't mean she's not hurting too.
MARK: Good, then she knows what it feels like.
BEA: Mark, Elly is more stressed and anxious than I've ever seen before. And it's gonna get worse now Shaun's here.
MARK: Well, that didn't take long! They'll be playing happy families before you know it!
BEA: She didn't ask him to come. And she's refusing to talk to him, all because she cares about how you feel.
MARK: Right - now she's caring about my feelings (!)
BEA: Oh, come on, Mark. Yes, she's been doing crazy things. But it's all because she loves you. She's about to be a mum, and... that baby has to have the best start in life.
MARK: What do you want from me, Bea?
BEA: She's not gonna put herself or the baby first while she's caught up stressing about you. Will you just go and talk to her, please?
Ramsay Street
Aaron and Kyle are just finishing a jog; it's clear Kyle's fitness isn't what it used to be, and Aaron is ribbing him about it. Kyle's a bit distracted, and admits he's nervous about putting in a tender for Karl's tram. Aaron tells him he'll smash it. At that moment, Amy pulls up in the ute with Jimmy, making Kyle more nervous still.
KYLE: It's hard, though, putting myself out there - I don't want to get knocked back.
Amy and Jimmy get out of the ute, and Kyle asks her if she has a minute to chat. But she makes an excuse, and hurries Jimmy into No 22 with the dirty laundry, rather than into her own house! Aaron notes how odd this is, and wonders aloud if Amy is avoiding Gary.
KYLE: Maybe...

Indoors, Shaun tries to explain his actions to a still frosty Karl and Susan.
SHAUN: Finn's never been part of a family like yours. And I'm so sorry that I overstepped the mark, but I just wanted to give him the best fresh start.
SUSAN: ... Well, I suppose we should understand what it's like to make a decision that other people find hard to accept.
KARL: Yeah. We've copped an enormous amount of flack for taking Finn in (...)
SUSAN: But we do want this to work. So, I suppose that's something we have in common.
Shaun wonders whether Elly will forgive him; Susan says he can't pressure Elly just because he's changed his mind about being involved with the baby.
SHAUN: This baby deserves a father, don't you think?
SUSAN: Elly is very focused on reconciling with Mark.
SHAUN: I get that. But if things don't work out, she's going to need help. I'm not giving up on this.

Having left Jimmy with Paul and Terese, Amy heads over to chat to Gary. Once she's gone, Jimmy and Paul start a chess game - and Paul starts probing Jimmy for information about what Amy's likely to do next in her relationship with Gary. But Jimmy isn't giving much away, and Terese warns Paul not to try and get involved.
PAUL: I know how much you loved Kyle, and how good it was when he and your mum were together - and how devastated you were when they broke up.
JIMMY: When he dumped her, you mean?
PAUL: Yeah. All the same, I just can't help thinking that she was maybe a lot happier when she was with Kyle, than she is slumming it with Gary.
JIMMY: I know what you're doing. It's not gonna work. This is Mum's decision. No-one has the right to tell her what to do. Your move, G-Dad.
No 28
Susan is helping Karl with a crossword, when Elly comes in. She's not pleased when she learns that Shaun is checking in at Lassiter's until she's ready to talk to him. Susan sits Elly down, and says that she understands she's been thrown by Shaun's arrival - but that it would nonetheless be a good idea for her to talk to him.
ELLY: I can't! If there's any chance with Mark...
KARL: Mark's not the only person in this equation. You have to consider the biological father.
SUSAN: Everything's out in the open now. Mark knows the worst. What's the harm in sitting down and discussing your options with Shaun?
ELLY: Like what? Him moving here - us alternating weekends with the baby?
SUSAN: You can limit your contact with Shaun as much as you want. But I don't think you can stop him seeing his child if he wants to.
KARL: I don't know how I would've coped if Izzy had kept me out of Holly's life. Even though we live in different countries, I can still travel to see her and be involved. She's still my little girl.
SUSAN: A short conversation might make things easier for everyone.
No 32
David and Aaron are bickering about Finn, again. David is trying to explain that Finn isn't getting his memories back after all, but Aaron is still worried about David spending so much time with Finn, and says he'll never trust him.
Mark turns up, and discussion turns to Shaun; Mark stays he's steering clear of the entire situation. But David thinks that, given the amount of stress Elly is under and her miscarriage history, it would be a good idea if Mark talked to her. Aaron says Elly is fine being looked after by the Kennedys and Bea, but David persists.
DAVID: I know none of this is your fault. But the fact remains, your relationship is what's affecting her the most. And I know you don't want the baby at risk.
MARK: ... No, of course not.
DAVID: So, as difficult as it is, it might be worth checking in with her.
No 26
Sheila and Gary come in, discussing ideas for his tram tender.
SHEILA: I was thinking a tram-shaped lamington (...) what about something a little more Aussie - you know, Vegemite icing! It's the new salted caramel!
They go into the kitchen, and find Amy sitting at the table - so Sheila quickly makes herself scarce in order that Amy and Gary can talk.
GARY: Ames - I can't tell you how much I've missed you.
AMY: We need to talk. About the wedding.
GARY: I wasn't trying to control you, if that's what you think.
AMY: I know. But trying to rush me down the aisle? It makes me feel like you don't trust me. What, one move from Kyle and I'm gone?
GARY: He told you, then?
AMY: He didn't pressure me to choose. He was being honest (...)
GARY: I just got carried away, Ames. I wanted to marry you, and then start our life together.
AMY: I know! You big boofhead! I know, and I want that too.
GARY: Does that mean the wedding's still on?
AMY: We need to take things slow and plan it together. But yes.

They kiss.

Elly is alone. She has flashbacks to several recent events - the morning after her night with Shaun, discovering he's Finn's brother, presenting Caitlin's ultrasound as her own baby's to fool Mark about the date of conception, telling Mark the truth, and the aftermath on Ramsay Street.
At this point, Shaun turns up, Elly having asked him to come.
ELLY: What do you want from me, Shaun? You know where I stand.
SHAUN: I know. But I've been worried about you.
ELLY: You don't even know me!
She tells him that the baby is healthy following her accident - she just needs to keep her blood pressure down. Shaun says he did try to call, but Elly didn't answer; she claims she wouldn't have recognised his number, and reminds him he promised to stay away.
SHAUN: I should never have made that deal with you. I want to make things right.
ELLY: Yeah, but you don't need to! I have to focus on fixing my marriage; apart from that, I don't have the energy for anything else right now.
SHAUN: What if it can't be fixed?
ELLY: Then my family will help me raise this child on my own.
SHAUN: You'll also have me if you'll let me! Please, Elly - I want to be involved in our baby's life.
But Mark has just walked through the front door, and overhears this. Without a further word, he walks back out again. Elly turns to Shaun angrily...
Erinsborough Hospital
David and Aaron are having another disagreement - this time, about whether Shaun being back is a good thing. David relates it to his own experience; he'd have given anything to have his dad in his life. But Aaron is struggling to 'get behind' Elly right now because of all she's done to Mark, who he thinks still needs some space to figure everything out.
DAVID: Either way, we have to let Shaun be part of the picture. I'm sorry - I know that's hard to hear.
AARON: Yeah. Hey, can you not say anything like this to Mark? It's really starting to sound like you're on Elly's side here.
DAVID: This isn't about sides. It's about a baby's future.
They agree to leave it up to Elly, Shaun and Mark to figure it out for themselves. But Aaron says that as Mark's brother, he'll always be in his corner.
The Waterhole
Gary and Amy come in, all loved up - much to Paul's disappointment. He, Terese and Jimmy have been waiting for Amy to join them for dinner.
PAUL: Oh, what a shame - we've only booked a table for four (!)
TERESE: Oh, for god's sake, Paul!
PAUL: So, does this mean you've reconciled your differences?
AMY: You could say that.
PAUL: Ah, good. So my father of the bride speech - maybe I should dig it out of the rubbish bin.
GARY: Well, mate, if it's anything like your engagement speech, perhaps you could leave it there!
AMY: The wedding won't be for a while, so you have plenty of time to come up with something more appropriate.
A miserable-looking Kyle is at the bar, listening in on all this. Paul continues to be sarcastic about Gary, but Jimmy reminds him it's his last night before going back to New York, so not to blow it. Terese aims to dissipate the tension by congratulating Amy and Gary on their 're-engagement'.
Gary heads to the bar to get some champagne - and while Sheila is fetching some, starts quizzing Kyle about him declaring his love for Amy.
KYLE: She chose you. I accept that.
GARY: Great. So let's just let this be the end of it.
KYLE: Yep.
Ramsay Street
Shaun tries to talk to Mark, insisting he had no idea Elly was married when they slept together, or that she knew Finn - or he'd never have done it. Mark doesn't want to hear it, and tells Shaun to move. Shaun says that there's nothing between him and Elly; if Mark wants to get back together with her, Shaun isn't going to be a factor.
MARK: She is carrying your child! You are always going to be a factor!
SHAUN: That's not what I meant.
MARK: No - I don't want anything to do with her! Let alone a child that shares the same DNA as you or your brother!
Finn sees the argument getting heated and rushes up to intervene. Finn apologises to Mark for his role in all this, but it quickly becomes apparent that Mark wasn't aware Finn knew about Elly's deceptions before he did. Mark's now even more furious.
MARK: So you gave her a shoulder to cry on?!
FINN: It's not like that!
Mark walks away, before rushing towards Shaun - but Finn stops him from getting physical. Mark thinks better of persisting, and walks away.
Lassiter's Lake
Mark is having an Angry Jog™. He stops on the bridge across the lake, looking emotional - and looks sadly at the love-lock that he and Elly put on the bridge. He breaks down in tears.
No 28
Elly is updating Bea on her chat with Shaun, and Mark turning up in the middle of it.
ELLY: You should've seen his face, Bea.
BEA: Don't think about that. He's come to talk to you once - the chances are he will do it again.
Sure enough, Mark turns up then - but it isn't to talk. He has an envelope in his hands.
ELLY: What is that?
MARK: I asked you who knew what you'd done. You left someone off the list. You couldn't tell me, but you confided in Finn.
ELLY: I was always going to tell you.
MARK: I don't think you were.
ELLY: Mark - I was *always* going to tell you. It's the only thing I think about.
MARK: It doesn't matter.
ELLY: We need to talk about this again - please.
MARK: It's over, Elly. I want an annulment.
He hands her the envelope, and leaves.
