Paul's Penthouse
David is filling Amy in on his confrontation with Aaron over his past with Rory. David is concerned as to why Aaron hid the truth from him, particularly as Rory was his first love. Amy suggests that Aaron was probably just Waiting For The Right Moment™ to tell David. But David is sceptical, noting that Aaron ignored Rory in the Lassiter's Complex when David was with him.
David asks Amy to come with her to the pavilion to do a yoga class with Rory to learn more about him. Amy thinks it's a dreadful idea, and says it won't make David feel any better. David begs Amy not to let him go alone...
The Shed
While Rory has a workout, Mishti is chatting to Aaron - we learn she's still happy being an investor in the business. Mishti leaves for work. Rory appears to be suffering from some pain, and asks if Aaron can 'help him out'. Aaron is reluctant, but eventually relents and begins to give topless Rory a back massage.
While this is going on, Aaron tells Rory that David still doesn't know about their meeting in Paris, even though he now knows they were a couple in the past. Rory asks why; Aaron says he didn't want to make David even more upset.
AARON: I'm David's first serious relationship. He's new to all of this. I just don't want him being insecure.
RORY: Yeah, it would've made things complicated. Easier this way.
Aaron stops the massage, and Rory complains - but Aaron tells him he'll be late for his yoga class if they do any more. Rory smiles cunningly once Aaron's back is turned.
Lassiter's
Terese is on the phone to Imogen, her daughter, who by the sounds of it is seeking legal advice on Tyler's case from her old mate Judge Barton. Gary comes in as Terese ends the call, sending her love to Daniel, Imogen's husband. Terese seems unwilling to have a conversation as she's very busy, and also asks Gary to hand in his hotel pass at reception now he no longer works here.
Gary agrees, but quickly moves onto the subject he wanted to broach: he knows that Ben and Xanthe slept together, and that Terese knew about it - and is wondering why she didn't tell him.
TERESE: Look, it was a tricky situation. And she came to me in confidence - which I want her to feel that she can do. And she wanted a woman's perspective.
GARY: Yeah, I get it. And I'm cool with it. It's just - well, it's just a bit weird, isn't it? (...) That they're at that stage already?
TERESE: No - to be honest, I'm surprised it hasn't happened earlier.
GARY: I just felt like I might have been kept in the loop a bit, that's all.
TERESE: Did you tell Sheila the first time you did it?
GARY: Well, that's different!
TERESE: How? What, cos you're male?
GARY: No, not at all! I mean, I'm cool with it...
TERESE: The fact that you keep saying you're cool with it implies that you're not.
GARY: I dunno. Maybe it just makes me feel a little bit awkward.
TERESE: Okay, sweetie. I know it's a shock to realise that your little girl isn't so little anymore. But you don't have to worry. She's mature, and she's sensible.
Terese asks if they can finish their talk later and shoos a worried-looking Gary out as she returns to her paperwork.
The Pavilion
The yoga class is beginning, and Elly is already present when David and Amy arrive. Rory appears, and remarks that he wasn't aware David was into yoga. David coldly replies that he thought he'd check it out. The lesson begins; Rory says that due to his back injury he can't take part in the whole practice, but will instruct them on the bits he can't do.
In the first position the class practises, David makes a fool of himself by slipping on his mat and landing on his stomach. When Rory moves him to a less uneven spot of ground, David trips over, humiliating himself further. He admits to Amy that the whole situation is driving him crazy, worrying that Aaron might view Rory as 'the one that got away'. Amy looks concerned for David.
Ramsay Street
Yashvi and Kirsha are helping Shane clean the car, while also practising signing rude words! Shane feels left out and useless, as he can't sign properly because of his bandaged hand - so he grumpily announces he's going to the café, where he might feel more useful. Shane's low mood doesn't go unnoticed by his daughters...
The Pavilion
Elly gushes about what a great yoga teacher Rory is, which only serves to wind up David even further. Amy explains to Elly that David found out Rory and Aaron used to date, and that Aaron didn't tell him.
Elly begins to look guilty given what she knows about Rory and Aaron's meet-up in Paris, and asks if Aaron said anything else about him and Rory. David says they used to be in a dance troupe together, but that's all. Sensing that Elly might know something, David asks her if there's anything else he should know. Elly digresses deliberately, saying David and Aaron are a great couple.
As Elly makes an awkward exit, Rory approaches, and Amy congratulates him on a great class given his back injury. Rory doesn't hesitate to reveal that Aaron 'did some work on it' at The Shed, making David and Amy look awkward.
RORY: Hey, I didn't want to mention anything before class. But Aaron told me you found out we used to date? I feel with these things, it's easier if everyone's open - but Aaron thought it wasn't worth mentioning at first, so I went with that.
DAVID: Why did he think that?
RORY: You'd know more than me. Namaste.
Ramsay Street
Xanthe ends a phone call to Ben, as Gary pulls up outside No 26. Gary's quick to reveal that he ran into Ben, but Xanthe admits she already knows about their conversation.
GARY: I realise you're an adult - I mean, you're not, but... I trust you. And he's a good kid. You're my daughter, and you're a good kid too. Circle of life. C'est la vie!
XANTHE: ... Thanks, Dad. Umm, I have to go...
GARY: Just one thing. Maybe we should lay some ground rules.
XANTHE: Ben and I are safe.
GARY: ... Awesome! Great! But maybe it'd be best if you didn't do it at home?
XANTHE: Why? Does it make you feel uncomfortable?
GARY: No! Me? Of course not! I'm cool! But, your gran - I mean, it's her house, and she's pretty old-fashioned about that sort of stuff...
Xanthe says she wouldn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable, and Gary says he's glad. They awkwardly part ways.
Harold's Café
Amy, David and Leo are at a table, when they hear crashing coming from the kitchen. Shane emerges, apologising for the racket - and then clumsily spills a drink all over Amy, since he can only pick the cup up with one hand. Leo prepares to go and pick up Jack from the airport following his Queensland trip. Amy tells David to go and talk to Aaron, and Leo assures him it will be fine.
Fitzgerald Motors
Xanthe has arrived to tell Ben about her conversation with Gary.
BEN: Look, I'm sorry I put you through all this.
XANTHE: No, I'm sorry that you have to deal with him.
BEN: This whole experience wasn't exactly what I imagined.
XANTHE: Yeah, me neither...
BEN: And I want you to know that I totally respect your gran's wishes. If we were to do anything again... not that we will...
XANTHE: ... Do you not want to?
BEN: No, I do. But if you didn't want to, that would totally be fine. I mean, I know it wasn't exactly...
XANTHE: It wasn't what you expected either. I just think that we needed to talk to each other. I mean, both Piper and Terese said that communication is really important.
BEN: You told them?
XANTHE: Well, yeah. I just felt like maybe I'd done something wrong, and I wanted some advice... But you talked to Tyler about it, right?
BEN: Yeah, but - how much do they know?
XANTHE: I didn't tell them everything! I just said that it wasn't what we expected. And they said to be honest. So, honestly - I love you. And I'm so happy that my first time was with you. And I'd like to try again, if you feel the same way.
BEN: I do. Especially that bit about loving you.
They kiss. Xanthe flirtatiously suggests that if Ben comes to find her after work, they could 'talk' some more. She leaves, and Ben smiles.
Lassiter's Complex
Mishti is on the phone to Leo, telling him she'll be late finishing work tonight. She spies Shane on the other side of the courtyard looking sorry for himself. He admits he's feeling pretty useless, having been unable to wash the car or work at the café because of his bandaged hand. Mishti assures him it won't be forever.
She recommends that Shane follow up on some potential business opportunities, to make him feel like he's achieving something. He looks keen.
No 24
Aaron is hanging out in a towel when Rory turns up. He reminds Aaron of their mutual acquaintance Crystal, 'the bookings manager for that big Hobart hotel'. Aaron immediately remembers her, as she was a bit of a party animal. Rory explains that Crystal is in Melbourne next week, and wants to see highlights of Rough Trade's new dance routine, with a view to potentially booking them again.
There's a snag, however - Rory doesn't think his back will have recovered by then, and none of the other guys are available.
RORY: Which is why I was hoping you'd do it?
AARON: ... Rory, no. No!
RORY: Crystal always used to say we were the only two who were leading man material, remember?
Aaron refuses, saying his family has far too much going on right now for him to countenance being involved. Rory turns on the emotional blackmail, however, saying that if they don't get the Hobart hotel gig, Rough Trade is finished - so Aaron is his only hope.
RORY: Please, Aaron.
AARON: ... Yeah, I did say I owed you one.
But Aaron insists on asking David whether it's okay first. Rory agrees.
The Flametree Retreat
Amy is talking to a customer, Levi Jansen, about his chain of super-environmentally-friendly restaurants. He leaves his business card, asking her to call him if she ever needs advice.
As Levi leaves, Shane comes in - following Mishti's advice, he's wondering whether Amy has had a chance to talk to Steph about the possibility of investing in his urine-powered generator. Amy has bad news; Steph was worried it would cost too much while they're still getting the retreat off the ground, so it's a no for now.
However, Amy tells Shane about Levi Jansen's eco-restaurants, and wonders if he might be interested in the generators because of their environmental credentials. She gives Shane Levi's card, and tells him he's staying at Lassiter's tonight. Shane looks excited.
Harold's Café
Gary stops Elly to talk to her about Ben and Xanthe's relationship, explaining about the recent 'developments' between them.
GARY: They've become active, in an adult kind of way - if you know what I mean.
ELLY: Oh.
GARY: And I'm fine with it. I just want to make sure everyone's being treated respectfully.
ELLY: I'm sure Ben's doing the right thing.
GARY: Yeah, I think it's really important that the adults are treated respectfully too, don't you?
Gary explains he's told Xanthe that Ben can't spend the night at No 26, and asks Elly what the Kennedys would think about it. She would have to ask them, but thinks they would be 'fine with it'.
GARY: Oh, so we're all on the same page! That's great!
ELLY: No. They would be fine with Xanthe staying at our house. As would I.
GARY: That's not consistent.
ELLY: We respect the right for you to make the decisions in your house. So maybe you should try doing the same for us.
GARY: But... you're teachers!
ELLY: Yeah, and we've seen it a million times over - and they really care for each other.
GARY: So what? We just give them a high-five and tell them to go for it?
ELLY: No - you can't put restrictions on kids. They'll end up going somewhere else - the hotel, or the garage.
GARY: Not Xanthe!
ELLY: Do you remember what you were like when you were her age?
GARY: I think I know my own daughter better than you. And maybe it's better that parenting decisions are left to parents!
ELLY: And sometimes I guess teachers just see things more objectively!
GARY: Yeah, and sometimes I think they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. So have a good day!
Elly looks bemused as Gary walks off.
No 32
Shane enters the back yard to find Yashvi and Kirsha in the pool, and Toadie hanging out nearby. Shane excitedly explains about Levi Jansen, the restaurateur, who has agreed to meet him at Lassiter's about the urine-powered generator.
TOADIE: Well, remember the rules for a first date, mate. Don't put too much pressure on yourself.
YASHVI: And don't drink too much, or feel obliged to go home with him - even if he pays.
TOADIE: Yashvi!
YASHVI: What? Tell me that's not a good rule for any occasion?
Shane rushes off to get ready.
No 24
David turns up, clearly wanting to talk to Aaron about Rory. But Aaron gets in first, explaining that Rory has asked him to do the Rough Trade routine to help secure the Hobart gig. This will mean Rory will be around more to teach him the choreography. Aaron insists it's purely business, saying he's only doing it because Rory hurt himself at the gym - but Aaron won't do it if David isn't comfortable.
However, before David can answer, Rory appears at the door, with a very skimpy-looking pair of shorts for Aaron to wear in the routine.
RORY: Have you asked him?
AARON: ... Err, yeah...
RORY: Yes! Thanks David - you're really doing me a solid, man. If Aaron doesn't help us out, the group might break up.
AARON: No, sorry - he hasn't said yes yet.
RORY: Oh, I didn't mean -
DAVID: No, it's fine. Go for it.
It clearly isn't fine, though. David gets up to leave. Aaron asks what he wanted to talk about, but David says it can wait. He heads towards the door, and looks sad as he listens to Rory and Aaron talking about the skimpy outfit, before leaving.
Lassiter's
Gary arrives at the hotel, to see Ben and Xanthe slow-motion laughing outside the elevator. They get inside, and Gary rushes over to accost them - but is waylaid by a porter who gets in the way, so that the lift has closed by the time he reaches it.
Terese appears - she's on the phone to Imogen again, who is delivering less-than-great news about Tyler's chances in court from Judge Barton. Gary interrupts, telling Terese that he thinks Ben and Xanthe are going to a hotel room to TITTNL™. Terese suggests they have a chat to Xanthe about boundaries, and rushes off, distracted by Imogen's news.
Gary sees that the lift has gone to the second floor, and decides to follow. Reaching Room 209, he sees Xanthe's jacket lying on a maid's trolley outside, and a 'do not disturb' sign on the door. Concluding that this is the room Ben and Xanthe are in, Gary listens at the door, before knocking - but receives no answer.
In desperation, he reaches for his old Lassiter's swipe card and lets himself into the room, covering his eyes with his hands and announcing that "what you're doing is incredibly disrespectful to Terese, and the guests at this establishment"! Receiving no reply, he looks around to see the room empty, but a pair of jeans lying on the bed. Assuming they're Ben's, he hammers on the bathroom door.
GARY: Get out here now, Princess! I know you're in there - put some clothes on, and get out!
The door opens - it's Levi Jansen, fresh from the shower!
JANSEN: Please, just don't hurt me! Take what you want, and leave! I've got a family!
Gary gasps in horror.
