Number 24
Jack calls by in the morning to pick up Gabe, not realising that Paige and bubs didn't stay the night with Mark. Jack is curious as to why, but Mark won't elaborate and hands Jack one of Gabe's toys Paige forgot in her haste to leave before bidding him goodbye.
Number 22 Backyard
A tired-looking Paige is thinking back to being arrested by Mark on their wedding day when Jack arrives. He tries to carefully coax some answers out of her as to why she didn't stay the night at Mark's, but Paige only informs him that her and Mark had a "little argument" before reminding Jack it's none of his business.
Number 26 Backyard
Xanthe finds Sheila staring at the death spa. Sheila's keen to get rid of it ASAP and lets Xanthe know she's off the hook for Hamish's murder: a witness saw Sheila crying in the park at 9:10pm that night. They share a hug and Xanthe says her dad should also be off the hook soon because "the truth always comes out in the end". Talk soon turns to Dipi's talent show auditions and Xanthe says she's going to support Ben, but she's also taking her euphonium with her in case she feels brave enough to try out.
The Waterhole
Ben tells Xanthe he's quite nervous about the audition, and his nerves are only heightened when Toadie informs them that he's acting as a stand-in judge for Dipi while she looks after Kirsha. At another table Steph can see that Jack's brooding about Paige and Mark's argument and she reminds him that it's normal for couples to argue. Jack says he's just thinking about Gabe's best interests but Steph says he needs to trust Paige. Jack says that he does, but his surly face suggests otherwise.
Harold's Café
Karl and Clive are chatting about the new research trials and potential new wing at the hospital. Clive says the committee is a bit low on finances but Karl tells him he's hoping to win the Liveability money to boost it up. Karl leaves just as Sheila arrives and bumps into Clive. The two of them have a long overdue, slightly awkward, catch-up conversation about their lives. Sheila ends up pleased to have seen Clive again, but her face falls when she notices that Clive is having lunch with a female companion.
Number 24
Mark is surprised when Paige comes over to talk. Paige tells him that she's not angry; she's just really hurt. Mark knows he royally stuffed up on their wedding day and he'll never forgive himself for that.
PAIGE: You made me feel like our relationship was completely worthless. And then to hear that you put your job aside for Sonya? That was almost worse.
MARK: Destroying the evidence for Sonya was wrong. But I only did for what I thought were the right reasons. And I learnt that from what I did to you.
PAIGE: Well I guess I'm not the same person as I was back then either. [She takes Mark's hands in hers] And I'm not saying I agree with what you did for Sonya, but I will support you.
Mark thanks her and they share a kiss. Paige tells him she doesn't think it's too late to confess what he did for Sonya - especially since it was just a one-time thing! (Oh dear). But Mark says he can't risk losing his job and he really needs Paige's support. Paige says she loves him and she'll stand by him no matter what. Mark says he loves her and Gabe too.
The Waterhole
Ben finishes up his song and Toadie, channelling his inner Simon Cowell, makes him sweat for a moment before telling him he's through. Up next are 'Misdirection' aka Sonya and Steph putting on a really cheesy magic show. It doesn't take long for Toadie to kick them off the stage, much to their (and the Waterhole audience's) surprise.
Number 30
Sonya and Steph arrive home with Jack and Gabe and chat about Steph's health retreat opening next week. The only thing worrying Steph is the amount of emails Lyn's sending through about potential names for the business.
STEPH: She sent me a hundred names for this retreat. Not one good one.
JACK: Come on, that's harsh.
STEPH: Oh, um... The Glamour Grotto? Crystal Clean Whistle?
JACK: (pondering) You need a clean whistle.
SONYA: The thing is at least you know where you stand with Lyn. When she interferes, she interferes loudly.
Sonya then gets a strange phone call from the cops about her connection with Mark and the Backpackers, but Sonya tells them she'd prefer not to discuss anything further without legal advice. Steph and Jack look on in concern.
The Waterhole
Sheila finds Karl sitting outside and wants to chat to him about Clive. Karl wonders if he's the right person to talk to about all this stuff. But Sheila says when she saw Clive earlier she felt they still had a spark and wondered if Karl knew anything about Clive's female lunch date. Karl informs her that Clive's still single and the woman must have been the new hospital registrar. He then goes on to say that Sheila should ask Clive out again, "You two were great together!"
SHEILA: (unsure) I think that ship has sailed.
KARL: Oh no, you should give it a chance! Put yourself out there. And when you're happily ensconced, remember who pushed you!
Back inside, Toadie is still getting rid of acts left right and centre, but when he ushers a young kid called Jonathon off the stage during his dance act, the audience boo him so Toadie changes his mind and lets the kid through. Poor Xanthe doesn't even get to play her instrument before Toadie gets rid of her, and then it's Shane's turn to try out with a bush ballad about the dunny. Xanthe whispers to Ben that Toadie's being unfair and Dipi wouldn't be impressed with his decisions.
Harold's Café
Sheila has taken Karl's advice on board and sought out Clive. She tells him that life's too short to die wondering and asks him if he'd like to try dating again. Clive lets her down gently, though, by saying he's flattered but it took him a while to get over what happened between them last time. "It hurt and I just don't want to go back there again." Poor Sheila looks downcast but says to him, "If you don't ask you don't know."
The Waterhole
There are grumbles from Karl and the patrons when Toadie blasts his bike horn yet again to signal Karl offstage. So far the only acts he's let through are Ben and the dancing kid, but Toadie just says he needs the best.
KARL: This is nothing to do with talent! You're just being a dic-[bicycle horn noise] - tator!
Toadie tells the angry masses that he's just being thorough and he'll know what he's looking for when he sees it. Cue Sheila thundering into the pub to yell at Karl for giving her terrible advice about Clive, and to spill all her other recent woes. Funnily enough, this impassioned 'performance' has moved Toadie and he tells Sheila he wants her to be in the talent show. Sheila's like, 'what the hell just happened?'
Lassiter's Complex
Jack's out with Gabe when he sees Paige and Mark in the distance. He's just about to take Gabe over to say hello when he notices Mark usher an oblivious Paige away from a nearby police car. Jack doesn't look impressed with Mark's shadiness.
The Waterhole
Xanthe sits with her Gran and asks how she's feeling but Sheila says she honestly feels better after letting loose at Karl. Xanthe then suggests that Toadie's idea to put her in the talent show isn't all that crazy. Sheila could put on a one-woman show about everything she's been through in her life. Sheila's not so sure, but Xanthe offers to help her brainstorm ideas.
Jack finds Mark and tells him he has something difficult to say about his relationship with Paige and Gabe. Jack knows Mark loves them but he doesn't feel comfortable with Mark being around them right now. He brings up the call Sonya received from the cops about Mark and the Backpackers, and Mark says Jack doesn't need to worry about that he's handling things.
JACK: The fact that there's something to handle is exactly my point. Look, I'm thinking about what's best for Gabe right now. So if you can't just tell me what's going on, I will have to ask you to stay away from Gabe till it's all sorted.
Harold's Café
Karl, Ben, Xanthe and Shane all crowd around Toadie and let him know that he's no longer the judge for the talent show. Dipi heard about how harsh he was with everyone and decided that everyone who auditioned today automatically gets a spot in the show. Karl and Shane are super excited; meanwhile Toadie has to duck off after getting a serious-sounding text message from Sonya.
Number 24
Mark is stewing over Jack's ultimatum and decides he has to back off from Paige, even though it's the last thing he wants. Paige is hurt and confused when Mark says he needs to slow things down between them just until Gabe's more adjusted. Paige frowns and says that Gabe's fine and wants to know what's really eating at Mark.
MARK: With everything else going on I just feel like we're moving too quick. Maybe I'm not ready for such a big commitment. It's not fair on you and Gabe.
PAIGE: Are you serious, Mark? All right then maybe I won't come over tonight then either.
When Mark doesn't answer her, Paige gets up and leaves.
