Elly moans to Susan about Steph jumping to the wrong conclusions about her spending time with Mark. But she doesnt elaborate, leaving Susan nonplussed as to whats going on. Elly dips into her room and emerges with the flowers that Ned left there, and a note saying he has a surprise for her. Excited, Elly wonders what the surprise is. Susan says shell have to talk to Ned.

No 32
Elly arrives in the back yard, all smiles, but finds Ned hitting the punch bag and being very unresponsive. When she asks what the surprise is, Ned grouchily tells her that hes leaving town later today.

ELLY: I thought it would be a good surprise.
NED: Isnt it?
ELLY: Its just not what I expected.
NED: Yeah, well. We all have to be careful of expectations, don't we?

Nonplussed by Neds odd mood, Elly thanks him for the card and flowers, and asks hi if hes sure there isnt anything else he wanted to tell her. He insists there wasnt, and Elly leaves, dismayed.

Erinsborough Backpackers
Piper has bought a second-hand lamp, to provide mood lighting for her and Tylers date night but shes dismayed to see him putting on his jacket ready to leave. He apologetically explains hes been called into work. Pipers upset as they barely see each other any more. She wants to come with him, but he doesnt have time to wait for her, and rushes off.

One of the backpacking guests, Eva, comes in, and remarks to Piper about how hot Tyler is. When Piper explains hes her boyfriend, Eva tells him never to let him out of her sight! Piper looks worried.

Harolds Café
Jack is talking to Paige and David about the babys christening, and asks if theyve thought about godparents yet. Lauren and Brad show up, and Paige asks them for ideas too one of them has to be Catholic, she explains, but she was thinking of asking Ned for the other one. Brad explains about Ned moving up north to run the tattoo studio. Jack asks Brad to give him his best if he doesnt see him.

Once Brads gone, Jack remarks that he seemed a bit down. Paige explains that hes upset about Ned leaving, as theyd only just started to bond after so long apart. David looks thoughtful.

Ramsay Street
Mark finds his wheelie bin kicked over in the street where Steph left it and, being Mark, wants an explanation. He asks a passing Ned if he knows what happened, and Ned reveals Steph was responsible, after she saw Elly coming out of Marks room wearing Stephs engagement ring. Ned asks Mark what happened with Elly, but Mark says he has no intention of so doing and walks off.

Robinsons Motel
Elly turns up to explain the truth to Steph about being in Marks bedroom. She claims she was just looking out for Mark, but Steph is incredulous.

STEPH: What kind of person moves in so fast? My side of the bed wasnt even cold yet!
ELLY: I wasnt moving in!
STEPH: Yeah, right. Should have seen it coming.
ELLY: What?
STEPH: Well, the first day you were here, you were after Tyler, and next day Mark. And then you were full steam after Ned. Just give it a bit of time and Father Jack will be on your radar too.
ELLY: Okay, now youre being ridiculous.
STEPH: Am I?
ELLY: You told Ned about this, didnt you?
STEPH: So what if I did? I'm not the one in the wrong here. Mark and I had only just broken up, and then there you are to look after him?
ELLY: I'm just trying to set the record straight do the right thing!
STEPH: The right thing?! Right thing?! Elly, you wouldnt even know what the right thing is!
ELLY: I know I've done some stupid things with men in the past
STEPH: So why do you keep making the same mistakes?
ELLY: Looking after my friend wasnt a mistake.
STEPH: You had my engagement ring! Who does that?! No you admit it. You have serious problems with men.

Elly looks upset.

Harolds Café
The godparent conversation continues, as Jack asks David if theres anyone appropriate in his family, since he was raised Catholic. David says Leo hasnt been to church in a long time, so hes probably not the guy! Jack tells them to keep him posted if they have any ideas, then leaves.

Once hes gone, David admits to Paige that he feels a bit weird being involved in these discussions, given that hes not really the father of the baby. Paige says she doesnt want him to do anything hes not comfortable with, but David says he knows its only temporary and that hes glad to be able to support her. However, he doesnt look wholly certain.

Back Lane Bar
Tyler is working when Piper turns up; however, another member of staff, Maria possibly Tylers boss bars her from coming in without showing any ID. Piper protests that shes Tylers girlfriend, but Maria is having none of it.

PIPER: If I'm here, hes gonna work a lot harder.
MARIA: I doubt that! Sorry, youre just gonna have to leave.

Piper looks jealously at Tyler serving all the women at the bar, before being forced out of the door. Maria looks angrily towards Tyler.

Elly is talking to Susan about her latest encounter with Steph, describing how Steph ripped into her.

ELLY: I guess what hurts the most is that she was probably right. About me, and men.
SUSAN: Maybe in the past, you did rely too much on men for validation. But I can see you trying to change that.
ELLY: I don't want to be that girl anymore, always seeking a mans attention. But honestly, with Mark its not like that. Were strictly friends. And now, everyone thinks somethings going on. Ned too.

Susan reveals that Ned was going to ask Elly to move to the Gold Coast with him

Elly confronts Ned, whos just getting out of the pool. She reveals she knows Ned was going to invite her to come with him to Queensland.

ELLY: Steph got it wrong. So did you.
NED: I'm listening.

Elly explains she was comforting Mark as he was upset over Steph, and took the ring off him to stop him from drunkenly throwing it away.

ELLY: I was just being a friend.
NED: Right, that makes sense.
ELLY: Yeah. And if youd just talked to me about it, rather than shutting me out like you always do, we could have avoided this whole conversation.
NED: Alright, Elly, I believe you. I don't want to fight. When I said I loved you, I meant it. I do want you to come with. Lets get a fresh start come on, just us.
ELLY: How can I trust that? You have up and left me so many times. And now youre about to do it again.
NED: When you wanted to leave after the wedding, I stopped you because I didnt think we had any options. But we do, okay? We have my relatives, we have the tattoo business up there we could actually make this work. This is our chance, Elly.
ELLY: No.
NED: No?
ELLY: I can't deal with all the drama and uncertainty in my life.
NED: I've been an idiot, alright, Ill do better.
ELLY: No, its not you. I need to learn to stand on my own two feet. I havent been without a boyfriend for more than a few weeks since I was fourteen. I don't know who I am without some guy.
NED: Some guy?
ELLY: No, Ned, I don't mean you.

She sits by him and rests her head on his shoulder.

NED: Guess its just bad timing, huh, like always? Maybe in a month or a year we could
ELLY: Maybe. As long as some gorgeous Queenslander doesnt snap you up.
NED: I'm gonna miss you.
ELLY: I'm gonna miss you. Stay out of trouble, Ned.

She promises to come and see him if shes ever in Queensland, kisses him on the cheek, then leaves.

Robinsons Motel
Mark shows up and starts having a go at Steph.

MARK: Thanks for making my life that little bit harder.

He berates her for kicking his rubbish all over the street, and adds that Ned told him it was her.

STEPH: Well how did you think Id react, finding Elly coming out of your bedroom?
MARK: What were you even doing there in the first place? And if Elly and I had hooked up which we didnt, by the way its none of your business. You broke my heart, Steph. You have no right telling me what I can and can't do with it. You know, I thought that you wouldve been happy Id moved on, so you didnt have to feel guilty for cheating. You don't get to be jealous, okay?!
STEPH: Well, I am. I was. Just because were not together any more, doesnt mean Ill stop caring about you.
MARK: You left me. You cheated on me. You know what? I just I'm not doing this.

Mark walks off.

Piper finds Ned lying by the pool, and he confirms he hasnt changed his mind about leaving town.

PIPER: So you know how you leaving is going to devastate me?
NED: Mm-hmm?
PIPER: It would soften the blow if you could just do this teeny, tiny favour for me before you left.
NED: What is it?
PIPER: I need a fake ID. Do you know anyone?

Ned says theres no chance! Piper says she just wants to visit Tyler while hes working, not to drink but to hang out with him. Ned reminds her he can't get involved hes just finished community service, and Brad would kill him. Piper admits shes worried about other girls hitting on Tyler. Ned says all relationships have their challenges.

PIPER: How long was your longest relationship, Ned?
NED: Two months. Alright, I can't talk. Still not getting you a fake ID.

Shortly afterwards, Brad and David arrive to get started on a family barbecue. Brad hands David a spanner to check the gas bottle, but quickly realises such things arent his forte.

DAVID: Leos the handyman.
BRAD: You'll learn fast once youre a dad. I bet you and Leo gave your dad hell.
DAVID: ...
BRAD: Sorry, mate, I wasnt thinking.
DAVID: No worries. Maybe if we find our dad, well give him thirty years of hell all at once.
BRAD: Its never too late for parents and children to find each other. Look at me and Ned. We had years apart.
DAVID: And now youre really gonna miss him. Why don't you go with him? Help him set up and settle in?
BRAD: I don't want to bruise his ego by suggesting he can't set himself up.
DAVID: So offer without offering. Make Ned think its his idea.

Brad smiles.

Harolds Café
Piper finds Paige in the courtyard, and tries to get her help in acquiring a fake ID.

PAIGE: Isnt it a bit late? Tyler already knows how old you are.
PIPER: Oh, ha-ha, very funny.

Piper reminds Paige how she had a fake ID when she first came to town. But Piper gets the same response she got from Ned. Paige says Tyler could get fired if Piper gets busted at the bar. Piper again complains about all the women hitting on Tyler, but Paige reminds her that Tyler loves her. Piper says its not Tyler she doesnt trust, but his customers.

Paige loses interest in the conversation, and suggests they go halves on a cheese and bacon sandwich. Once shes gone to order, Piper goes in Paiges purse and looks at her driving licence. She then quickly replaces it.

Brad brings out a beer for David, and Ned soon joins them, with a few more bottles to celebrate his departure. Brad says how jealous he is of Ned having access to the surf on the Gold Coast, since there hasnt been any decent surf in Torquay in ages. Ned suggests Brad come up and stay for a bit he could visit baby Matilda at the same time. Brad and David exchange a sly glance.

BRAD: Yeah, that could work. I could even help you set up the studio. Well, only if you want that.
NED: Are you kidding? That would be awesome of course.

Ned goes to call the airline and see if he can get Brad a ticket on his flight. Brad and David toast their plan to get Ned to take Brad with him but David is looking a bit worried.

Robinsons Motel
Paul remarks to Steph that there have been a lot of police cars hovering around the motel of late, and asks if she knows anything about it. Steph is surprised. Paul says he spoke to some officers in a patrol car, and was told there had been lots of complaints, but that they wouldnt say what about. He wonders whether Mark could be responsible, as some kind of payback for the break-up.

Steph doesnt think Mark is capable of that; however, it does give her another idea as to who might be responsible for all the patrols.

STEPH: Ellen?
PAUL: Detective Crabb? Oh, please tell me this is not gonna be a problem and that you are gonna make it go away.
STEPH: It might not be that easy.

Piper takes photos of Ned, Paige and Lauren saying their goodbyes, while Brad remarks to David that Paige seems happy and a lot of thats down to David.

BRAD: You know, its been a pretty tough twelve months. Losing Josh and Dad. But theres been some bright spots too. And one of them is you and Paige having this child. You know, I just wanted to say a proper thanks. It means a lot that youre here.
DAVID: I've never dreamed of having a family like this.
BRAD: Well youve got one now.

Brad moves away, and Paige approaches David, thanking him for doing all this it means so much to her, and to Brad too.

DAVID: Pity it can't last. Hows he gonna feel when he finds out the truth?

Paige looks worried. Meanwhile, Lauren gives Ned a goodbye hug and kiss.

LAUREN: We are gonna miss you so much. Now, you make sure you send your dad back in one piece, alright?

Ned hugs Piper and Paige too.

PIPER: Youve been the best bad influence a girl could ask for!
NED: I'm glad I could inspire you.
PAIGE: Its gonna be a lot less chaotic without you around!
NED: I dunno. I think youll be able to have enough chaos without me.

Ned shakes Davids hand.

NED: And this ones a good bloke. Make sure you make an honest man out of him.

David looks sheepish.

NED: Right, looks like weve got everything. Even the old man.
BRAD: Yeah, youre stuck with me now, mate.

Ned and Brad pose for a father-and-son picture with their surfboards before leaving.

The Waterhole
Mark is on the beer again, when Elly comes in.

ELLY: Feeling any better?
MARK: What doesnt kill you makes you stronger, right?

Elly hands back Stephs engagement ring, telling him not to do anything stupid with it. Mark thanks her, but doesnt promise saying he has a gift for making stupid decisions. (don't we know it!)

ELLY: Ned has left town tonight.
MARK: Finally some good news!
ELLY: ...
MARK: I'm sorry.

Mark is handed some takeaway, and suggests Elly come back with him to his place for dinner.

ELLY: I don't think thats a good idea.
MARK: Are you sure?
ELLY: I don't think either of us wants to be that person right now.
MARK: Fair enough.

Mark leaves without her.

Harolds Café
Lauren and Piper discuss Neds departure, Lauren saying that it feels final this time.

LAUREN: Hes so different from the angry kid who first arrived here.

Lauren gives Piper her café wages which shes requested in cash Piper claims its earmarked for bills and groceries. However, once Lauren disappears into the kitchen, Piper makes a phone call.

PIPER: Hey there. Its Piper Willis. Listen, I know were not exactly friends or anything. But I've done some asking around, and I hear that you do fake IDs?
