Number 26
Callum helps Ben and Charlie write out Mother's Day cards while Steph and Toadie look on. Libby drops in to tell Steph about her dinner date from hell. She feels like an idiot for letting a rebound relationship get so carried away.
STEPH: I thought you said it wasn't a rebound?
LIBBY: That's what you always say when you're on the rebound.
Libby wants to know what the rules are when you're trying to move on from a failed relationship, so Steph suggests she take things slowly and protect herself. Lib gets a text from Doug, asking her to meet him at the hospital, and thinks he's about to break up with her.
Erinsborough Hospital
Doug is pleased when Libby walks down the corridor; he didn't think she'd come.
LIBBY: You saved me from watching Harry Potter for the millionth time.
DOUG: Ben's a fan?
LIBBY: No I am. I've got a thing for Snape - such great taste in men.
Doug leads her into his office where he's set up a candlelit table for them, along with some "champagne" (aka lemon cordial because he's on duty). Libby thought he had work to do, "or was that just an excuse to get away from dinner?" Doug admits it was a bit of both.
LIBBY: You're not dumping me?
DOUG: It takes a lot more than that to get rid of me. It takes a lot more than that for you to get rid of me.
LIBBY: I'm not good at this whole dating thing.
DOUG: And I'm not good at dating you and your parents at the same time.
LIBBY: If I asked to take things slowly can I still stay for cordial?
Doug smiles and kisses her. I'd take that as a yes, Lib.
Number 24
The Ramsays are hanging out with Declan and India after dinner while Lou and Rebecca do the dishes. Lou congratulates Rebecca on the latest Pirate Net campaign but Rebecca scoffs that she had nothing to do with it and will be overseeing all of the marketing decisions from now on. The topic of Mother's Day comes up and Rebecca gets an idea to have a picnic. Sophie knows she's just suggesting it so it will take their minds off their mum, but thinks it's a good plan anyway.
SOPHIE: Better than hanging around here feeling sorry for ourselves.
HARRY: Well, the midget has spoken.
Number 28
Lyn drops Ben home and tells Karl and Susan that Libby got a text from Doug and had to rush off. Karl sees Ben off to bed while Susan and Lyn have a cuppa. Susan thinks it's funny that Karl's so anti- Doug because they're exactly alike; that's why they fight all the time. Lyn wonders if Libby realises but Susan thinks she'd run a mile if she did. The wheels of wonder turn in Lyn's head.
Harold's Store - Next Morning
Libby calls in for a coffee but ends up with much more than she bargained for when Lyn plants the idea in her head that Doug is a Karl clone.
LYN: Both doctors, both dedicated, both strong views: deja vu. Karl's a doctor and Susan's a teacher. Doug's a doctor and you're a teacher.
LIBBY: How's that deja vu?
LYN: It's kind of like you're falling for the same kind of man that your mum did.
LIBBY: Oh, no I'm not!
LYN: Well I think it's sweet. You and Doug could be just like your parents.
LIBBY: No, no, no. We wouldn't.
LYN: Hey, he's not just the tiniest bit mean with money is he? I did notice that he left the dinner before anyone paid.
Libby's eyes go wide. She excuses herself and takes a raincheck on the coffee.
LYN: Hey Lib he doesn't play the guitar does he? Wouldn't that be a hoot!
Libby can't get out of the shop fast enough. Lyn looks guilty but the deed is done.
First Commercial Break
Number 28
Libby is resting on the couch when Ben races in to wish her a happy Mother's Day. Susan and Karl walk in wearing their pyjamas, commenting on Libby's early bird- ness. While Ben gets Libby's card and Karl and Susan cook breakfast, Libby drifts off to sleep on the couch and has a dream... Or more accurately, a nightmare.
Doug is wearing Karl's pyjamas and gets down on one knee to serenade her with his guitar. Libby is mortified.
DOUG: I've just written a song. It's about a secretary I had a fling with. Do you wanna hear it? Oh, and did I tell you I've got a love- child in London?
He starts singing 'Free As A River' very, very badly. And very, very loudly. Libby screams, "No!" at him a few times before she wakes herself up with a start to find her family hovering over her.
KARL: Goodness, you must have been having a bad dream!
LIBBY: Yeah... I don't know what that could have been.
Lassiter's Complex
Harry invites Summer along to the "lame picnic" for Mother's Day but she declines; she doesn't believe in it. They see Natasha walking around by herself.
HARRY: Have you noticed there's no Mrs Williams around?
SUMMER: She was probably bred in some freaky science lab.
Natasha approaches them and asks if they're talking about her, but Harry says they were wondering where she stood on the whole Mother's Day thing. Natasha snits that it's all about pathetic cards and hideous flowers, "What's not to love?".
Steph and Charlie stroll past to give a bouquet of flowers to Lyn. She's delighted with Charlie's homemade card and tells him to pop inside the store for a drink. Lyn then reads Steph's card and is touched by her words.
LYN: To my gorgeous mum, who always stands by me even when she doesn't agree with me.
STEPH: You've got no idea how much it means to me. And all that stuff with Libby and Doug, I know it was just you trying to protect us but it means the world to me that you stopped.
Steph gives Lyn a hug but Lyn looks quite rattled.
Number 28
Steph calls in to see Lib, happy that she and Doug are still together, but Libby looks concerned and asks if Doug is anything like her dad. Steph's amused at first, but not so much when she realises that it was Lyn who put the idea in Libby's head in the first place.
Harold's Store
Lyn's happily putting her flowers in a vase when Steph bursts into the kitchen, full of anger that Lyn is still interfering in Libby's life. Steph reminds Lyn that Doug has promised to keep her pregnancy details confidential, but Lyn looks upset and says she's really worried for her. Steph understands but wants Lyn to promise her she'll leave Libby and Doug alone. Lyn quickly nods.
STEPH: Right, now that's settled it's my turn.
LYN: For what?
STEPH: For interfering and meddling. The best way to get you off my back is to keep you busy.
Number 28
Libby gives Susan a big hug for getting her through the past turbulent year and a half. She's a fabulous mum and there's no one else she'd rather be like. Libby then hesitantly asks her if she thinks Doug is like Karl. Susan's eyebrows shoot up but she hides her reaction and plasters on a reassuring smile, "Nah, they're nothing alike!" Libby's relieved.
Harold's Store
Harry is helping Kate and Sophie choose snacks for the picnic when he sees Summer sitting by herself, writing in a journal. He walks over to check up on her.
HARRY: Are you OK?
SUMMER: I'm just busy.
HARRY: You know how you said in detention that sometimes it just hits you that your mum's not around... It's one of those days, yeah?
Summer doesn't answer but he knows he's on the money. He asks again if she wants to tag along to the picnic but she looks sad and says she isn't up for it; she has this thing she does every year. Harry notices it has something to do with the journal and asks to take a look. After a quick glance he says he has an idea, "Do you trust me?"
Second Commercial Break
Lassiter's Park
Sophie is getting some video footage of Rebecca, Lou, Kate, Declan and India enjoying some cake. Declan smiles at India and says Bridget would've eaten three pieces easy - she was mad about cake. Harry and Summer arrive and Harry says Sum's got something to read out. Summer explains she writes a report to her mum every year to let her know how she's doing. She starts to feel self- conscious but Rebecca says it sounds like a nice idea, so Summer begins.
SUMMER: It's been a really good year. I finally finished reading War And Peace and I'm re- reading Jane Austen in chronological order.
Summer gets a shock when Harry suddenly throws a piece of cake at her head.
HARRY: You are such a suck! Jane Austen in chronological order? Well all I can report is that I got kicked out of home and put in foster care.
SUMMER: Well you only got suspended from school. I got expelled, beat that!
She returns the favour and piffs cake at his head. Everyone laughs and joins in.
LOU: I got sacked by Lyn.
KATE: I made an idiot of myself in front of Jason Coleman and I got covered in dip at the deb. {Sophie throws cake at her) Hey! What was that for?
SOPHIE: You left out the bit about finally getting into his dance troupe. (To Harry) And you got on the basketball team. (To Declan) You're the best single dad I know.
REBECCA: She's right (she pelts cake at Declan) but I nearly bankrupted Harold's Store.
LOU: Yeah but then you backed out. Suck! (He tosses cake at her)
DECLAN: And Sophie is in high school now blitzing it.
EVERYONE: (pelting cake bombs at Sophie) Suck!
SOPHIE: I stole a history test!
Cake goes everywhere.
Number 26
Summer arrives home in a happy mood to get changed out of her dessert- stained clothes. Steph, Toadie and Lyn are hovering around the laptop - Steph's plan to get Lyn off her back is to push forward with her internet dating. Lyn says she's not all that comfortable with her daughter looking for men for her, but Steph tells her to suck it up. Steph's pleased to see her mum has lots of email responses, but Lyn's not too enthused with a few of them.
LYN: Oh that's no good - window cleaner.
TOADIE: I'm with you, Lynnie, it's good to be fussy.
LYN: Yeah, come on, Toad. You understand.
TOADIE: Woah, what? I don't think I should be the one to...
LYN: No, you know what to look for in a man.
Steph cracks up as Lyn pushes Toadie into the chair to take over proceedings. Toadie doesn't quite know how to take that revelation.
Ramsay Street
The picnic gang return from their cake war zone, teasing Summer for already changing out of her messy clothes. They all head into #22 for afternoon tea except for Rebecca and Summer, who spy Natasha across the street. Summer reveals to Rebecca that the two of them don't exactly get along, so Rebecca takes it upon herself to play peacemaker, dragging Summer over to say hello.
REBECCA: Hi, I'm Rebecca.
NATASHA: ... Right.
REBECCA: Look I know this whole Pirate Net thing has caused a bit of friction between your dad and...
NATASHA: I don't really care. It was just a way to get my modelling career started.
SUMMER: Really? That's all you want to do?
NATASHA: Oh I'm sorry, I thought women could do whatever they wanted to?
REBECCA: Yes they can. You want to be a model, Summer wants to be a musician.
SUMMER: I guess I don't think women should just allow themselves to be exploited in that way.
NATASHA: (patronising) I get how annoying it must be for you. Sure, if I learnt the piano and practiced hard, I could be a musician. But there's no way you could ever be a model. Ciao.
Summer snits that she'd never want to be a model anyway, but Natasha ignores her and walks inside.
Number 26
Toadie still doesn't get what Lyn needs him for, but she says to make sure she doesn't do anything rash. Summer storms in, fuming after her Natasha encounter, just as Lyn finds a profile she likes the sound of - SophisticatedGent52. SG52 likes the Rolling Stones, his favourite actor is Paul Newman, he's self- employed and is in the 45- 55 age bracket - "He's perfect!" Summer's a bit worried because SG52 hasn't put down a lot of information about himself and thinks Lyn should find someone else, but Lyn has already sent him an email. Summer makes it her mission to find out more about SG52, "I'm not going to let any stray nut jobs stalk my Nan."
Third Commercial Break
Number 26
Toadie and Steph look on as Summer puts in SG52's IP address to get more details about him. Callum and Charlie are bickering about food in the kitchen with Lyn, so Steph and Toadie go in to check it out, leaving Summer alone with the computer. She's astonished when the results come up.
SUMMER: You're kidding... He lives on Ramsay Street?
