The Waterhole
Sheila greets Amy and wonders if it might be a bit early in her recovery to be out and about. "Maybe," Amy concedes, but she couldn't resist the "siren call" of a Waterhole dessert. She then sees Levi playing pool with Freya. Sheila tries to warn her away from interrupting them, but Amy figures she may as well rip the bandaid off. When Amy approaches the couple, Levi says he's been meaning to check in with her and see how she's recuperating. Introductions with Freya are made and Amy blurts out that she's Levi's ex.
AMY: Just thought I'd come over and get the awkwardness out of the way.
FREYA: I'll let you know when it's gone.
AMY: It'll be any moment now. I guess I don't need to tell you this but you snagged a good one here.
FREYA: Yeah, I'm on the fence about that. He's kind of thrashing me at pool, it's taken the sheen off him a bit.
AMY: Well, good luck with the game - and the guy. You two look great together.
Amy leaves, but not before letting Freya know her handbag has dropped onto the ground. Levi picks it up and is startled by how heavy it is, but Freya quickly grabs it from him and pretends she's just carrying around a few books.
Number 30
Toadie is still quite shaken up about how upset Amy was. "I reckon her chakras were in a worse state than her kitchen was," Melanie sympathetically muses. Toadie wishes there was something he could do - it's not like he has cash to spare to loan her, or to go into business with her. But Melanie says all he can do right now is be there for his friend, which Toadie already knows deep down. He asks if Mel wants to visit Amy tomorrow.
MELANIE: Absolutely. We can be like her emotional sports bra.
TOADIE: What?
MELANIE: (squeezing his chest) High support.
The Waterhole
The next morning, Freya pays for her and Levi's breakfast. Roxy walks in with Kyle and decides against sneaking up on them, going with a cheery "hey guys!" instead. Freya jokes that it was a good call, just in case it was another ex trying to crash the party. Levi explains that Amy spoke with them last night to try and get the awkwardness out of the way, but Freya says it was actually pretty funny. They all chat about their plans for the day and Freya wonders if a ride in Levi's cop car was up for grabs. Roxy jokes that Levi would never break the rules, even though she's desperate for a car ride herself. Levi says he wouldn't try and dupe the Sarge like that, so Freya figures it could still be on the table if they ask his Sarge permission first.
Harold's Café
Zara is sitting with a few of her fellow students, including Louis Curtain. Louis is making a menace of himself throwing sugar packets across the Café, which doesn't sit well with Toadie and Melanie who are watching from the counter. Toadie approaches the teens and asks why Zara isn't at school for her suspension, but Zara says it's finished. Toadie then snatches the sugar packets away from Louis and tells Zara she should get to school so her mum won't be worried (and to find better people to hang out with). Zara gives Toadie sass but ultimately ends up feeling guilty about her mum and reluctantly agrees to head to school.
Amy's Apartment
Toadie and Melanie have brought Amy coffee and a shoulder to lean on. Toadie wants Amy to tell them everything she needs right now and maybe one of them will have a brainwave. Amy rattles off that she has broken ribs and a punctured lung, she lost her job, Zara's acting out, oh, and she also spent $25,000 on a food truck that she doesn't even know how to run. Amy has zero dollars left in her bank account after her last couple of bills are paid.
AMY: I wish I had a grace period. Then I could just focus on the truck and it'll all be okay. Instead I'm going to rush, I'm going to ruin it. I'm going to go broke and I'm going to lose Zara.
TOADIE: What if you could get a grace period.
AMY: What do you mean?
TOADIE: You and Zara could move in with me!
Amy and Melanie both look taken aback.
Lassiters Complex
Roxy and Freya listen as Kyle tells Levi about a new burger joint he likes that has keto food on the menu. Roxy notices Sergeant Rodwell across the way and encourages Levi to ask him about riding in the cop car. With Freya egging him on too, Levi jogs over to Rodwell and asks the favour. Surprisingly Rodwell's on board as it so happens there's a car in the city he wants Levi to pick up and drive back. If Levi's happy to do it while he's off duty then he can bring a friend along. Levi thanks the Sarge and relays the good news to the gang. Roxy's stoked, but when Levi and Kyle are occupied, Freya quietly asks Roxy if she can sit this one out. Freya works the angle that she wants to spend more alone time with Levi, but something sneaky is afoot.
Amy's Apartment
Toadie says he could waive the rent for a few months and Amy could take the time to work on the van. It could also be helpful for Zara to have a stable family environment too. Amy says it sounds tempting, but reminds him that their last fight was about parenting. Toadie understands, and adds that it would have to be his house, his rules, but he wants to support Amy too. Looking slightly dubious, Melanie agrees it's a lovely offer, but perhaps Amy might find it more useful if they weren't trying to solve her problems for her. But Toadie knows Amy's dealing with a lot on her own and he'd like to help if he can.
AMY: It's really thoughtful, Toad. But I'd have to see with Zara. Plus I've still got four months on this lease.
TOADIE: Well think about it at least.
AMY: Yeah, I definitely will.
Number 30
Toadie tells Melanie that Amy was so beside herself that he felt compelled to do something. Melanie doesn't get why he was cautious about giving Amy money because he didn't want to jeopardise the friendship, but he has no problems asking her to move in. "Well this is a bit different, we have lived together before," Toadie replies. He then apologises for not checking with Melanie first. Mel's cool with it, but she's worried about Zara's reaction. Toadie says Zara will just have to put up with a bit more discipline, but it'll be fine. Toadie calls out for Mackenzie (and Hendrix) to break the news to her. Mackenzie doesn't look thrilled about being in close proximity to Zara, but knows it's Toadie's house so she'll have to go along with it. Toadie says he'll keep her informed if Amy accepts. "That will give me time to hide the vodka," Mac half-heartedly jokes.
Harold's Café
Amy tells Ned that Terese has agreed to let her break the lease on the apartment, which is a snippet of good news. More good news follows when Karl and Susan stop for a chat and Susan says that Zara appears to be doing better at school. Susan even says she'll put off telling the Education Department about the fire call out so Amy doesn't have to pay straight away. When the Kennedys leave, Ned wonders why Amy doesn't appear as happy as she should be. But Amy says she's worried about moving Zara into Number 30 after their breakthrough at the hospital.
NED: You think it will be disruptive?
AMY: I know it will. At least a little bit - probs a lot. She's made it very clear that she wants to spend time with me, and that she's not a massive fan of Toadie.
NED: Well he's no softie.
AMY: And he's made it very clear that she has to follow his rules. I know I have to be better at this parental thing but I think that this is just too much too soon.
NED: Zara's smart, she'll figure out that you're just looking out for her - eventually.
City
Levi and Freya get into the police car they're driving back to Erinsborough. Freya says she feels powerful just sitting there and wonders if it was a rush for Levi when he first got behind the wheel. Levi admits he had his moments but he had to push against it. "I just reckon what makes a good cop is not letting the power get to your head," he says. Freya smiles at him but it disappears when she turns away from him.
Amy's Apartment
Zara looks quite startled when she arrives home to find Toadie, Melanie and Amy packing things away in boxes. Amy explains to her daughter that they're moving to Toadie's while she sorts out her finances, which doesn't sit well with Zara. Amy tries to talk things up, telling Zara she can use the pool and she'll have her own room, but Zara grumbles that she likes things as they are. "I did not agree to this!" she blurts out before leaving.
Lassiters Hotel Rooftop Pool
Zara has stormed all the way up to see Hendrix (and Mackenzie) after noticing they were there on Hendrix's socials. She complains about having to move into Number 30, which Mackenzie notes with a weary look. Mac says that Toadie's a good guy, but Zara thinks that's a cringe thing to say. Hendrix says he understands that moving around a lot sucks but it sounds like Amy really needs a break to get back on her feet and Toadie's being a good mate.
HENDRIX: Anyway, it's a cool place to live. You want to know why? Because I'm always there! How's that for a sweetener hey?
Zara looks slightly more cheery while Mackenzie casts a glance to her boyfriend. Zara then decides to stay for a bit and hang out with them.
City
Freya and Levi are still sitting in the cop car because Freya is asking a million and one questions about the vehicle. She's particularly interested in the little computer, which Levi 'helpfully' explains is connected to the police database where you can search for anything. He then realises they're going to be late so they better get a move on. Freya gets him to promise they'll stop at the burger place Kyle was talking about on the way home.
Amy's Apartment
Toadie, Mel and Amy are still packing when Zara gets back. She finds her mum in the bedroom and apologises for running off. Zara understands why Amy needs to do this, but she was just surprised and wishes she was consulted first. Amy knows it's sudden but they had to be out before next month's rent was due.
AMY: I promise the next big decision we'll do it together, okay?
ZARA: Deal.
Zara goes to pack up some of her clothes in the lounge room. Toadie thanks her for being understanding, "your mum really needs our support right now". Zara offers him the barest hint of a smile that quickly fades away.
City
Parked outside Easey's burger joint, Freya gives Levi her order and thanks him for a great day. When Levi heads across the road and into the shop to get the food, Freya immediately gets onto the computer to use the database.
Lassiters Hotel Rooftop Pool
Hendrix gets a text from Zara of her packing up boxes. He shows Mackenzie and jokes about how great he is convincing Zara to give Amy a break. But Mackenzie gently warns him to tread carefully because it's obvious Zara has a giant crush on him. This is news to Hendrix.
HENDRIX: If it's true you don't care, do you?
MACKENZIE: No! Of course not. I'd just keep an eye on it. I know you feel sorry for her and you want to help her out but she's pretty wild.
HENDRIX: She's not that bad.
MACKENZIE: I'm just saying, be careful.
City
Freya keeps glancing across at the burger joint to make sure Levi's still none the wiser as she cruises the database. She types in the name 'Gareth Bateman' and gets seven hits on potential addresses, but before she can make note of them, someone appears at the window.
ROXY: What are you doing?
Freya looks up at her in alarm.
