- Leo tells Paul and Courtney that he and Mishti are together
- Leo checks that Courtney didn't tell Paul what happened this morning
- Terese says the thought of Gary with another woman makes her sick
- Gary tells Terese that nothing happened last night
- Bec hugs Jack at school; Jack tells Susan he's missed having something so satisfying to do
- Susan tells Jack there have been complaints made against him
Jack tells Steph there's nothing in his notes that matches what the kids are saying. One of them has claimed he told them to say Hail Marys as penance! Steph is amused and says no- one will believe that. Jack is upset as he thought he was actually making a connection with the kids. Steph is sure Susan will get things sorted.
Terese tells Piper she can't stay on the couch all day. She's sure the exam went better than Piper thinks. She has her driving test this afternoon (that's good timing in the middle of her exams!) and more exams to prepare for. Piper can't just push it out of her head. Terese says work helped take her mind off of what happened with Gary and tells Piper to get up.
Mishti and Courtney enter and Courtney is talking about the Shakespeare costumes for the gala. David announces he's not going because he won't enjoy it without Aaron, and has asked Sonya to make the speech. Paul asks Leo and Mishti how they feel about inviting Dipi and Shane over tonight to celebrate their relationship. He tells Courtney it will be their first hosting as a couple. Courtney leaves to talk to Terese about the gala.
Courtney and Terese disagree over Coutney's idea to cut the seats out of the pants of the costumes. Terese thinks Shakespeare should be classy but Courtney thinks it will be bland.
COURTNEY: Sorry but as the rejuvenation consultant I'm putting my foot down. People want to see sexy. You know, we can even give you a makeover too!
Gary is cleaning and overhears. He tells Terese that nobody really believes Courtney is the boss around here. Terese tells Gary it's not his problem any more but he says she can still talk to him. He's told the other cleaning staff the place needs to be spotless for the gala, not that it will make a difference. Terese appreciatively assures him it will make a difference.
Leo and Mishti discuss how to survive playing happy families tonight. They invite Dipi and Shane. Dipi says they'd love to come but Shane tries to make excuses. Dipi has to take a call from one of the mums from school.
Jack has met with Susan and dropped off his session notes. Susan tells him she has to follow protocol and take the complaints seriously. Jack thanks her for not suspending him. He notices "go back to church God boy" written on the counselling sessions poster on the noticeboard and some students giggle. Susan tells him not to pay any attention.
Susan arrives and Dipi tells her she's had a call from a mother concerned about Jack's counselling sessions. Susan says she's looking into it but doesn't think there's anything to be concerned about. Dipi says their family celebrates Hindu festivals as well as Christmas and the like and they don't want the kids pushed either way.
Shane apologises to Mishti for being unsupportive earlier but he's worried about Dipi and Courtney being in the same room together.
MISHTI: Is this because of what happened between you and Courtney at the day spa?
SHANE: Oh no, no, that's a misunderstanding I'd be happy to forget. No, it's just that Courtney recently has made a few comments about the coffee and the menu here and Dipi doesn't exactly have much of a filter when it comes to criticism. You know what it's like when Dragon Dipi comes out!
DIPI (coming up behind him): Dragon Dipi is about to demonstrate her calm and even temper because she's an adult and she's more than capable of holding her tongue!
Gary pours some bleach into a bucket and notices the glance between Paul and Terese as Paul heads to the lift. Toadie comes in with flyers for the Guy Fawkes gala. Gary says organising it is driving Terese bonkers.
TOADIE: You guys on talking terms are you?
GARY: I can't help it. Even after everything she did I can't... well I just hate seeing her having a hard time of it.
Toadie tells Gary there's no shame in taking her back but Gary says people would think he's desperate and pathetic. Toadie asks who cares what other people think; what does Gary want? Gary says she broke his heart. Toadie tells him it is possible to work through it like him and Sonya. There's nothing pathetic about forgiveness. Toadie leaves and Gary absentmindedly pours some ammonia (which just happens to be in an identical container) into the bucket with the bleach. Oops...
Paul, Courtney, David, Leo, Mishti, Dipi and Shane are present. Amy has sent her apologies as she's dropping Jimmy off at camp. Paul has ordered room service which Mishti is clearly not too impressed about.
COURTNEY: I hear you're a brilliant cook, Dipi?
DIPI: Really? Um, the last time we saw each other you... that was ancient history! Nothing to worry about here!
Shane asks Paul and Courtney who cooks out of the two of them but Courtney says they're not really domestic and Paul says they prefer to eat out. David says this situation is like the film Meet the Parents.
SHANE: So which one of us is De Niro? Me? Paul?
COURTNEY: Paul is totally De Niro. You guys are like basically twins.
SHANE: De Niro's in his seventies!
COURTNEY: But he looks so much younger than that. Like heaps! I'm going to check on the entrees.
DIPI (quietly to Shane): And I'm the one who's tactless!
The lift opens and Courtney is shocked to find Gary collapsed on the floor. David rushes to him and tells the others to call an ambulance.
Jack meets Susan again. There's certainly nothing in his notes to suggest he has anything to hide but there are still some hurdles to get over before the matter can be resolved. They need to rebuild the trust of the school community. Jack hopes it's not too late but Susan says he's a good counsellor and she's not going to let him go without a fight.
Piper tells Terese and Paige she has passed her driving test but she's not jumping for joy. Driving Hermione reminds her of driving lessons with Tyler. Terese wants to celebrate but Piper just wants to go home and read a book she's picked up from a book exchange. Paige gets a phone call and sounds shocked.
Paige and Terese arrive and David tells them that Gary accidentally mixed ammonia with bleach and is being assessed. There is a danger of permanent lung damage. He hasn't been able to get hold of Sheila or Xanthe (that's because they're Not In This Episode™, silly!). Gary is stable so Terese can see him but she is reluctant. Paige says if she were Gary she would really want someone by her side right now.
Everyone is now sitting around the table. Shane says imaging dying in a hotel lift and Mishti says there's never a nice way to die. When Zander died she realised you have to live in the moment. Courtney says she and Paul will probably be cryo frozen like Walt Disney! Shane would like to be side by side, holding Dipi's hand when they go. It's all too much for Paul who excuses himself.
Paige returns to Piper who has been left watching Gabe. There's no news on Gary yet. Piper thinks she is on the same wavelength as the previous reader of the book as they have underlined her favourite paragraph. Paige is going to buy Piper dinner to celebrate her passing her test. On her way to the bar she speaks to Susan who is trying to draft a letter to the parents to try and quell the hysteria. Paige hopes they don't drag up what happened with Jack at the outreach centre. Susan calls Elly and says she completely forgot about what happened at the outreach centre; defending Jack could be a lot more complicated than they thought.
Leo brings Paul a drink on the balcony after the others have left and thanks Paul for hosting tonight. Paul is glad that Leo found Mishti; he can see they're crazy about each other.
LEO: You've found someone too, right?
PAUL: Oh, Leo. I want real love. The sort of love that Dipi and Shane have got or that you and Mishti are going to grow into.
Paul reveals that he and Courtney are not in a relationship. He wanted to show Terese that he didn't need her any more, while Courtney wanted to stick it to her dad. The longer they keep it up the more he realises he wants the real thing.
David tells Gary his results are good; it could have been a lot worse. Terese arrives and David leaves. Gary is surprised Terese cares enough to check up on him. Terese tells him her heart stopped when she heard what happened. Gary says it's driving him mad seeing her at work every day; that's probably why he made such a stupid mistake.
GARY: Thanks for stopping by.
TERESE: Gary, please just talk to me. Say whatever you want to say. I can take it. I deserve it.
GARY: You know what I really want to tell you?
GARY: What I want to say is probably pathetic and crazy but... I still miss you. I still want you so much. And if you could be willing to find a way to give it another go then I reckon I could forgive and forget. What do you say?
