- Brooke tries to sell the necklace to Karl
- Brad finds Piper and Tyler on the couch and shoves Tyler; Piper and Tyler drive off together
Brad wants to go after Tyler and Piper but Ned says they won't go far.
TERESE: We should call the police.
BRAD: What, and tell them our seventeen year old daughter stormed out of the house and she's been gone about what sixty seconds?
NED: It's gonna be OK. They'll probably just go to a hotel for the night.
TERESE: Ned! That is not helpful!
Brad and Terese go to speak to Mark and Aaron.
Number 24 back yard
Aaron says Tyler's phone is off. He knew he'd made them feel unwelcome but didn't think they'd take off. Brad confesses he shoved Tyler, and Aaron tells him he may have triggered memories of their dad. Terese gets a text from Paul; today is the deadline for the men's shed tender.
Elly is leaving for the pub. Karl's phone is going off so Susan searches for it in his bag and finds the necklace box. She admires the necklace and asks what Karl has done.
Karl promises to let Brad know if Ben hears from Piper as a car pulls up.
KARL: Here come the Cannings, fresh from Frankston!
Karl tells Brad about the fake necklace he bought from Brooke. Brad asks why he doesn't just give it to Susan and explain, but Karl would rather Susan think he forgot their anniversary. They walk over to talk to the Cannings but Xanthe hasn't heard from Piper. Brad goes to carry on looking.
KARL: So, any news?
KARL: No, thought not. OK, well I'd better get going too. I've got to go and buy a new anniversary present for my wife.
GARY: Yeah, I'm sorry again mate, about the necklace.
KARL: No, no, no, that's alright. I didn't mean anything.
GARY: Yeah, we know what you meant.
Paul tells her to take the afternoon off to focus on her family.
TERESE: You're trying to get rid of me aren't you? Paul, there is no way that you are gonna use my family crisis to stage some sort of takeover on our business!
Ned comes in looking for Tyler but Elly hasn't seen him. A young woman appears and asks Ned if they're still on and checks if the pool is heated. Ned tries to introduce Rachel but Elly cuts him off.
Xanthe enters the house with Elly, saying she hasn't heard from Piper. She reminds Elly how she couldn't even message Ned when he went away but Elly doesn't want to talk about Ned since he's apparently moved on with the girl he's taking home for a swim.
XANTHE: We can go over there if you want sneak through the side gate, have a little peek.
ELLY: I think that's called stalking!
XANTHE: Elly, if there's one thing I found out from Mum's visit it's that if it looks dodgy it probably is.
Number 32 back yard
Elly and Xanthe spy on Ned and Rachel getting out of the pool. Elly wonders if they are just friends.
XANTHE: Ned Willis does not have female friends. You need to ask yourself, what would Emma Watson do?
ELLY: Make a dignified retreat?
XANTHE: She would stand up for herself and the rest of womankind. AKA go over there and warn her. Be a badass!
ELLY: Why should I?
XANTHE: Because feminism!
Elly confronts Ned in the kitchen, asking if their relationship meant nothing to him as he hasn't even grieved for a day. Rachel comes in with Maxine Cowper and Ned explains that Rachel is Maxine's physio and Maxine gets anxious at the public pool. Elly leaves, embarrassed.
Susan gives Karl an anniversary present.
KARL: Oh, thank you. Is it something for the boîte bleue? That's blue box in the language of love.
SUSAN: Aha, you've discovered Google Translate, haven't you?!
The present is bicycle cufflinks. Karl gives Susan her present and she is excited for a second until she sees it's clearly not the necklace. She unwraps a CD with a photo of Karl in a toga on the cover.
KARL: It's 38 songs that have been really important to us, you know? And don't worry there's no Right Prescription in there! Although there are some of my solo songs that are inspired by my love for you. Do you like it?
SUSAN: Yes, yes, of course yes I just don't know what I was expecting!
Aaron has tracked Tyler's iPad to a hotel in Brighton. Brad wants to go straight there but Terese thinks they should all just cool off. Aaron will let them know if they move on.
Toadie is telling Karl about the photo of Dee but claims he doesn't want to spend another second thinking about it. Karl tells Toadie he's in the dog house over the CD. Toadie tells him to buy something else but Karl says Brooke cleaned him out.
TOADIE: You're a doctor Karl fix it!
Susan is telling Sheila she can't understand why Karl gave her a CD instead of the necklace. She claims she's not thinking he bought it for someone else, but it sounds like she might be so Sheila fills her in on Brooke scamming him out of $1100. Susan is astounded and amused about Karl spending and losing that much money.
Ned arrives and Elly apologises and blames it on Xanthe egging her on. Ned is surprised she was so upset and Elly says it's because one minute he wants her and the next he doesn't. Ned says he does want her. Elly confesses she was on edge about something else. When Mark found out she realised how easy it would be for Susan to find out.
NED: Elly, hey, there's no way your past is as bad as mine. You can tell me.
ELLY: I ran over someone in my car on purpose!
Elly explains she was in a relationship with a teacher she worked with. He messed with her head. She got so angry that she ran him over. Ned asks how she is still a teacher and Elly says it was recorded as a misdemeanour. Ned tells her that if she stays and people find out he will stand by her because he loves her.
Terese and Paul (whose trousers are riding up so far we can see both of his legs - real legs!) finish their work. Piper has sent some texts but isn't coming home yet. Terese wonders if she could have done things differently but Paul tells her she's a good mother. He was thrilled when she was mentoring Madison and a little bit jealous it wasn't him working with her. Terese looks a little uncomfortable.
Gary comes in and awkwardly asks for some extra shifts. Paul takes delight in rubbing in that he's trying to pay off Brooke's debt. Terese can't offer Gary anything.
Karl comes home with an enormous new TV for Susan.
KARL: It's a smart TV, darling. It's internet enabled. I'll be able to watch every stage of the Tour Down Under.
SUSAN (hesitating): Great!
KARL: You don't like it?
SUSAN: Well it's a very fancy TV but it's more for you than for me.
Susan says she was thinking of something more personal like lingerie or jewellery. She confesses she knows about the necklace.
Elly takes a good look as she sees Ned and Brad walking. Ned is telling Brad that Piper will forgive him like he did. Brad apologises for not always being there for him. He leaves Ned to talk to Elly. Elly has decided to stick around for a while.
Susan tells Karl she's known since lunch time but was waiting for him to own up.
KARL: I didn't want you to know what a gullible donkey I'd been.
SUSAN: Oh, darling, I've known that for 38 years!
It means the world to Susan that he was willing to spend that much money on a ruby and she is happy with the necklace and the CD.
KARL: Oh well, I'll return the TV then.
SUSAN: Oh no, we might as well keep that. We could use an upgrade in the bedroom.
KARL: Since when have we *ever* needed an upgrade in the bedroom?!
They apparently don't make it to the bedroom as we later find Karl putting things back in the blue box in the living room. Susan answers a knock at the door to Terese who sees clothes strewn all around the room.
TERESE: Hey, you do realise that just because I knocked you don't have to answer the door, right?!
SUSAN: Oh that's alright; Karl needs to rehydrate anyway!
KARL: Susan! I'm just sorting out the washing that's all.
SUSAN: It's fine, honestly, Terese. Come on in. Cup of tea?
TERESE: Yeah I don't want to interrupt.
KARL: No, no, really, it's fine. I was just about to put on my Lycra and go and pick us up a take away curry anyway.
SUSAN: Karl, you do know you can make a phone call and people will actually bring food to the house?
KARL: Yeah, do we really want to pay the extra for delivery fee?
Terese tells Susan that Paul has been very supportive. When they're on the same wavelength it can be quite incredible. Maybe it's time for her to stop being afraid?
Terese finds Paul pre- emptively toasting their winning the tender. Terese suggests they have dinner to celebrate. They both receive an email at the same time from the council. They never received the application. They realise they never decided who was supposed to submit it!
PAUL: You know why? Because that ex- boyfriend of yours, Gary, got in the way didn't he?
TERESE: Oh right, so you're blaming me are you? You know what, you can forget about dinner and you can forget about working together ever again!
