Ramsay Street
Steph gets the shock of her life as she is putting out the wheelie bin when she spots Charlie walking up the street towards the house. She asks where Lyn is and he explains it's just him.
Cue titles!
Number 30
"She's mad isn't she?" Charlie comments after Steph gets off the phone from Lyn (she didn't know he was in Erinsborough but is now on her way) and confirms to him that Lyn's relived he's safe and asks what he was thinking travelling all the way in from Bendigo by himself! "I wanted to see you again," is his honest reply and because Lyn wouldn't take him, he jumped on the train instead. While she is happy to see him, she also realises that there could be consequences too (with Max) and Charlie confirms he's not told his dad about their meeting.
STEPH: I'm just not sure that you should be here.
CHARLIE: Can't we just hang out?
"Yes we can hang out," she replies since they've got to wait for Lyn to arrive anyway.
The Waterhole
Toadie/Sonya/Nell are in the bar celebrating her victory with toasts of OJ. Sonya is still in shock at her victory but then it dawns on her how she's going to manage to juggle things. Toadie just wants them to enjoy the moment but that's out the window when Sonya receives notifications of meetings she needs to attend even though she's not supposed to begin her duties until the following week!
Sheila, happy Tim has been knocked off his perch, comes over with a congratulatory coffee for Sonya and gets out her book with a list of complaints!
Number 26
Kyle/Amy's pashing session in the kitchen is interrupted by Xanthe playing her euphonium so he goes through to the living room to send her to school and reminds her she's not allowed to wear makeup (but that's not stopping her). Despite Xanthe reminding him that he's not her dad, she taps him for munch money before leaving with Piper.
AMY: Guess it's going to take more than a euphonium.
KYLE: She really hates me.
AMY: Yip.
JIMMY: Yip.
Number 30
"Hi Nan," Charlie coyly greets Lyn with when Steph lets her into the house. "Thank heavens he's okay," Lyn quietly says to her daughter as they go into the kitchen. "I'm not," is Steph's reply because she's broken the parenting order twice in two weeks but Lyn reminds her that Max doesn't know. Steph wants to be pre-emptive and let him know but Lyn tells her not to and suggests that it's a good time for them to bond and to raise the issue of the adoption. "How am I supposed to bring up something like that?" she asks and Lyn thinks it might just come up if they are having fun.
The Waterhole
Just as Sonya thinks she's finished with one constituent (Sheila), Paul rushes into the bar to seek her out to say her top priority should be to overturn the development. Sonya is unawares of the development full stop and Toadie tries to say she's barely got her foot in the door but when he mentions where the development will go, that seems to have them both now paying attention.
Harold's café
Xanthe is still insistent that she's going home because Kyle especially hates her but vetoes every suggestion Piper makes as to how she can raise the money. She doesn't seem too amused at Piper ignoring her plight by giving Tyler the starry-eyed stare when he comes in to collect some cardboard boxes.
Number 26
Jimmy, who is home because of a teacher training day, is keeping Charlie occupied on the games console while the adults talk in the kitchen.
"I'm good," Steph confirms when Amy asks how she is going although admits that her mind went blank when Charlie asked what they could do together because her mind-set of how to play with him is from when he was younger. "He's here love and that's the main thing," Lyn reminds her and Amy backs her up by saying they just need time to get to know each other again. "That would be so nice," Steph says but is fearful of what might happen when Max finds out but is told to forget about him and concentrate on Charlie.
The adults rush through when the boys get a bit excited at the game they are playing but aren't too amused at what they are saying (talking about killing etc.).
Lassiters Complex
Sonya is stressing out big time about how she's going to cope as the family exit the bar especially as Tim's parting pressie is no PA for the mayor! "I have faith in you Mayor Rebecchi," Toadie says to try and reassure his wife and tells her to have some faith in herself.
Number 26
As they make lunch, Lyn raises the issue of why Steph didn't say anything when they chastised the boys earlier and she explains that she's so out of practice but is also fearful of Charlie resenting her that he agrees to Phillipa adopting him. Lyn hadn't thought of that last bit and when the boys start arguing (over some card game this time) tries to stop Steph from going through and doing something, even when she comments that disciplining is part of being a parent.
Harold's café
Piper goes all starry-eyed on seeing Tyler come into the store again and ignores Xanthe telling her to ignore him, instead calling out his name and trying to suss out why he was after the boxes earlier. Tyler comes over to their table to talk to them and explains that the boxes are for Courtney's belongings because she is moving in. "That's sudden," is her tuppenceworth and he says that's just how things happened and leaves them to it, heading into the kitchen to get more boxes.
XANTHE: Wow, anyone who moves in with someone after seeing them for a solid five minutes is a bit of an idiot.
PIPER: I just made things worse.
"Well he is an idiot," Xanthe tells her before their conversation is interrupted by Brad coming over to tell them to get back to school for [his] exam. "Don't stress me out," Piper tells her dad before he heads back to get his coffee and then leaves the store... forgetting that he's left his iPad lying but someone's seen it (Xanthe) and under the pretence of going to get Piper another coffee, she sneaks the iPad into her bag.
Number 26
Amy is trying to get to the bottom of why the boys were arguing but even the threat of a week's ban from playing computer games doesn't have Jimmy talking. It's Charlie who eventually breaks to say that Jimmy was going on about engines and what Steph's taught him and mentions the plane too (Jimmy told him earlier that Steph gave him it).
CHALRIE: He isn't even into them, he thinks he knows everything.
STEPH: No, okay, so when we have a problem we talk about it, we don't fight.
CHALRIE: I knew you'd take his side!
"There are no sides," Steph responds with but Charlie decides he's heard enough and tells her "I wish I never came here," and goes to leave the house. Steph rushes to try and stop him but he's gone before she can quite get there. Lyn tells her to let him go and cool off as he'll be back because he's left his phone lying on the table.
Erinsborough High
Susan spots Brad worried and he explains that he can't find his iPad and needs it because the exam is on it, adding that he thinks he's left it at Harold's, so she volunteers to cover his yard duty to let him go call Lauren.
She then spots Piper in passing and wants her to come see her later for a chat but Piper would rather get it over with now, so Susan says that she's worried about Piper's falling marks. Piper puts it down to being distracted with Doug and while sympathetic, Susan urges her not to let it affect her schoolwork adding that Doug wouldn't want that either. Susan then gives her a pep talk about Year 11 being an important one especially if she wants to head to Uni. "Thank you for letting me know," Piper says before heading inside to sit the exam.
Ramsay Street
Steph can see Charlie trying to hide from her as she tinkers with her bike and eventually he makes his presence known to ask where Lyn is as he's ready to go home. She explains Lyn has a few errands to do and when he doesn't want to wait inside, gets him involved in helping her with the bike.
As they work, she tries to explain to him that he doesn't need to be jealous of Jimmy (he's not) but he wants to know why she bought him something (the plane) when he's not into that. "Well I actually bought that plane for you," she explains adding that she gave it to Jimmy because she thought he'd be much older by the next time she'd see him and that he might not be into planes any more.
STEPH: I just never thought I'd be this lucky.
Charlie confirms that he would have liked it if she'd bought it for him and that he likes things with engines, which gives rise to a big smile on Steph's face before she goes to show him around her bike.
Lassiters car park
As she tries to get Nell out of the car (and into daycare) Paul hassles her about overturning the development and doesn't seem amused to find out she's not looked into it.
PAUL: No, no, no, you to realise that your responsibilities are greater than your family now. You've got a duty to your constituents.
SONYA: I'm sorry, have you forgotten of the fact that I tried to fight against the community centre being closed down or that I chained myself to the bridge to stop the lovelocks from being taken away? And despite Tim's threats and him trying to tarnish my character, I still won the election.
PAUL: Yes, yes.
SONYA: Yes, yes, yeah and I did it while trying to be the best mother and best wife that I could be, so really, you don't need to worry, I'll take care of the development and anything else that this role throws my way.
Erinsborough High
Xanthe has found a way of getting cash - selling copies of Brad's exam to fellow pupils! She refuses to tell Piper where it's come from and isn't worried about being caught because she won't be around long enough!
When Susan calls her name out, she thinks she's been caught out but all Susan is after her for is to remove the lipstick she is wearing and after agreeing to and explaining she forgot, breaths a huge sigh of relief when Susan walks away.
Piper announces she wants a copy of the paper because she's not prepared (despite telling Susan that she'd studied for the exam) and Xanthe is reluctant to do that. Eventually the plea of "I'm failing," sways Xanthe and she hands over a copy on the house to her.
Number 30
It's a happy mood between mother/son as Steph puts a 'best apprentice ever' sticker onto Charlie and he reciprocates with 'best mechanic' (although she thought he was going to write mum/mother initially) when Lyn enters the house. Charlie heads to clean up and Lyn congratulates her daughter on the breakthrough with Charlie and Steph says it's been great and mentions that she hasn't brought up the adoption issue.
Lyn tells her about her plan - she takes him back to Fiji and explains all to Max/Phillipa and to persuade them to drop the adoption. "You think they'd really go for that?" Steph queries but Lyn thinks if they are transparent and don't push, she doesn't see how they can write her off.
They hear a car tooting and Lyn thinks it Sonya because she parked in the driveway but it's not her, its Phillipa!
Unmissable drama
- Steph trying to explain things to Phillipa.
- Steph extremely determined not to give Charlie up.
- Brad telling Piper that he thinks someone has circulated the exam paper.
- Piper asking Xanthe for Brad's iPad as he could get sacked but is told she's to keep quiet.
