Mal reminding Karl that Susan likes caring for people; he shouldn't make it more than it is.
Karl promising to support Susan 100%.
Michael telling Tash that she lies and manipulates her way through every moment of her life, so he's sending her to boarding school.
Mal telling Toadie that Andrew's running a hostel from his house.
Andrew finding out that Paul's coming home early, and the house is still full of backpackers...
Summer and Andrew are pushing the backpackers out, but one girl refuses to leave. Andrew gives her a refund, and tells them all to get a bus into town from Lassiter's. He and Summer realise they have to clean the house, quick smart...
Karl watches as Susan accompanies Jim to pick up his prescription from Rhys Lawson. Susan asks lots of tough questions and Karl comes over and says hi to Jim, see how he's doing.
Jim says he's going to get some food from the canteen, but Susan suggests going to Charlie's instead. Karl asks to have a chat with Susan before she leaves. She's a bit reluctant, wanting to wait until tonight, but concedes when Jim pushes her.
She's distant, and Karl comments that he's hardly seen her recently, but wanted her to know that he meant what he said in his voice message the other night, and if he can help, he will. Susan ungraciously says she has to leave to be with Jim, and ignores Karl's warmth.
The Bric- A- Brac Shop
Chris spots Tash at the shop and calls out to her, but she's too busy hunting through to find the Badloves record she sold. Chris asks her if she wants to meet up later, but Tash wants to meet now, even though Chris is at work. Can't he just drop everything for her? Chris says he'll meet her in an hour.
Summer and Andrew are cleaning up like crazy, washing, hovering, tidying, spraying air freshener: Paul will be home in an hour!
Susan arrives home to see Karl, and is rather more warm towards him. He gives her a massage voucher – for a day spa. He thought it would help her to have some of her own relaxation time. She doesn't seem enamoured. He asks after day, and Jim, but Susan persists on knowing why Karl bought her the voucher.
Karl thought that if he cooked dinner, then Susan could have some time in the day to relax, but she says she can't possibly enjoy being pampered whilst Jim's so sick. Karl tries his best not to react.
Later on, Karl's set the table and has laid out a huge meal. Susan seems suspicious and disinterested until she sees Jim at the door, as Karl has invited him to dinner. All of a sudden she's smiling, happy, friendly and encouraging Jim to sit down and eat. The distinction between her behaviour to Karl and to Jim is rather alarming...
Andrew and Summer have finished cleaning when Paul returns home. He looks around, suspicious, but says he's just tired.
Cut to a bit later when Paul is telling Andrew about Elle, Donne and New York shoes, whilst Summer discretely refills an empty whisky bottle with tea. She manages to put it back without Paul noticing, but he realises he's sitting on a packet of chips and an Italian flag, hiding under the sofa cushion. He accuses his son of throwing a party despite specifically asking him not to.
Summer brings a coffee over, whilst Paul expresses his disappointment in his son.
Tash and Summer are playing Fussball (a new addition to the store), but Chris is winning by miles. Chris tells Tash that Paul has booked Charlie's for Andrew's 18th next week, whereas his dad only bought him cufflinks. He also wonders if Andrew will get a car for his birthday, and is curious to know what Michael has planned for Tash's birthday.
Tash crumbles into tears and says her dad is sending her to boarding school.
Cut to later where Chris is comforting Tash and assuring her that Michael won't go through with it. Tash promises him that it's true, and despite her explanations of why she sold the record, her dad won't have any of it. Chris puts his arms around her.
Karl and Susan are eating with Jim, and Karl says that he has a patient with a business in Anglesea, who might know the people who now live in Jim's old family home. It's a long shot, but he'll get in touch.
Karl goes to the kitchen, followed by Susan who's suddenly exuding warmth and thanking him for being kind to Jim. Jim asks about the Peru map, books and research, wondering who's interested in the country. He continues to ask about it, and wonders when they're off. It's an awkward moment, so Karl says that it will probably be before the wet season.
Jim suddenly realises that they're leaving it late – and why. He tells them that they shouldn't wait for him to drop off the perch before they go, and Susan's left upset.
Harold's Store / Number 22
Andrew's on the phone to Chris who's going to get a bottle of whisky for Andrew to replace Paul's one before he notices...
...but too late, Paul has poured himself a drink. However, before he can take a sip there's the noise of a large vehicle outside.
Cut back to the store where Andrew tells Summer he made enough for the schoolies deposit, a hire car and room upgrade!
Back in the street, a backpacker has turned up with a van.
MAREK: Can we park in the driveway?
PAUL: (confused) ...no!
At the store, Summer and Andrew are all loved up with their success.
Paul realises what Andrew's been doing at his house whilst he was away, and tells Marek to park the van at number 28!
Back to the store:
ANDREW: Me and you, on a Queensland beach, you in a bikini, me sitting there looking at you in a bikini...
And Paul goes back inside the house to find the Italian flag again, before taking a sip of the so- called whisky...
Susan's all cross with Karl for telling Jim about Peru, as if somehow it's his fault, and is shooting him daggers across the table. As they clear up, Susan offers Jim a biscuit, but he declines and says he'll just go to the bathroom.
In the kitchen Susan is giving Karl the cold shoulder because he dared to answer Jim's questions about Peru, and reminds him that he made Jim feel dreadful. Unfair! Karl points out that he had no way of knowing that their holiday was a secret, he assumed Jim knew.
Jim comes back into the room and collapses. Susan calls an ambulance.
Karl and the ambos wheel Jim into a room where Rhys efficiently takes over. Susan watches through the window.
Karl comes out and Susan says she's fine, Karl can go now. How rude! Karl tells Susan that Rhys has everything under control, but Jim is a very sick man, and it's really not looking good.
KARL: You have to prepare yourself for the possibility...
SUSAN: No! No! You saw him today, he's strong, he's positive, he's getting his appetite back...
KARL: Oh Susan...
SUSAN: No, no, Karl...please... Please. Just go in there and do everything you can to give him some more time. Please...
Alarmed at Susan's distress, Karl concedes, and goes back into the room. Susan watches, a determined look on her face.
