- Kyle and Lou bickering over their business
- Sonya wanting to buy the community garden
- Toadie not being keen on the idea
Toadie gently tells Sonya that she'll be up against big developers who'll want to buy the land, and she probably won't be able to get a loan. Sonya knows it would be a big risk, especially since she's never run a business before, but life's too short and she wants to take opportunities when they present themselves.
Kyle laughs at Jade when she gets stuck talking on the phone to Michelle. When Jade's free she finds out that Kyle's trying to think of names for his business, as per Lou's request. So far Kyle's only idea is “Kyle Canning's Handyman Service”. Jade makes a few suggestions like “Handy Can” and “Yes We Can- ning”, but Kyle shoots them down as lame and cheesy. Things take an unexpected turn when Kate drops in and tells them that Lou's already thought of a name for the business.
Kyle's horrified to see fliers plastered all over the shop with “Dial- A- Kyle” written on them, and a little cartoon version of himself to boot. Lou thinks they look wonderful, especially since he scored a good deal at the printers, but Kyle's ropable because Lou didn't consult him on the name first (which he hates). But it's more bad news for Kyle - Lou's already registered the name, just in time for the launch tomorrow.
Sonya's concerned when she notices Lucas's wallet is pretty chock- a- block but Lucas promises her hasn't been gambling and he's been going to his GA meetings. Sonya has a moan to Lucas about the garden, but can kind of see where Toadie's coming from with his business/money concerns. But Lucas echoes Sonya's “life's too short” sentiment from earlier and says that she just has to show Toadie how serious she is about buying the garden.
Kyle complains to Jade about his woeful business name and the big launch he doesn't want to attend. Jade's sympathetic but reminds Kyle he's directing his frustrations to the wrong person - it's Lou that needs to hear all of his concerns. Kyle doesn't want to upset the applecart seeing as Lou's providing all of the money, but Jade says Kyle's providing the skills: Lou needs Kyle and vice versa.
Jade tags along with Kyle for moral support when he tries to strike a deal with Lou. Kyle says that he'll cop the name and the cartoon, but he doesn't want a launch. This doesn't sit well with Lou because he's already spent a lot of money on the launch to bring the punters in and written a speech. Thinking she's helping, Jade says that Kyle will write his own speech and Lou accepts the deal. Kyle, however, is livid with Jade - he didn't want to have to give a speech in the first place.
First Commercial Break
Lucas notices how stressed Kyle looks just as Jade chases him into the bar to see what's wrong. She doesn't see why he's so worried - he usually loves people looking at him. Kyle confesses that chicks perving on him is one thing, but he's not getting up in front of a crowd of people and looking like an idiot. To make things up to Kyle, Jade says she'll train him so he feels more confident making a speech. Kyle looks wary but goes along with her for now.
Sonya digs through a garden bed before taking out a sketch book and making plans for what she'd like to turn the garden into if it were hers.
Number 30/Lassiter‘s Complex
Sonya arrives home and immediately goes into happy talking mode to Toadie, letting him know how serious she is about the garden and what her plans are, but she soon realises that Toadie has changed his mind and is on her side. He's been thinking it over and says he'll look into seeing if they're viable candidates for a joint loan. Beaming, Sonya covers him with grateful kisses.
Later, Callum and Sophie check up on Toadie while he crunches the numbers and makes some calls to the bank but it doesn't look good. Meanwhile, Sonya sits at Lassiter's and makes appointments for guide dog training all the while dreaming about her future at the garden.
Second Commercial Break
Toadie hates being the bearer of bad news, especially when Sonya looks so happy, but he has to tell her that the joint loan is a no go. They'd have to extend the mortgage but that would put too much financial pressure on them. Sonya looks devastated that the garden is out of her reach once more. Toadie says how sorry he is but they're going to have to let the idea go.
Jade sits outside Charlie's with Kyle while they put together a simple speech. Kyle's still worried that everyone will think he's an idiot and will laugh at him, but Jade gives his hand a squeeze and says he's a good guy and a great handyman. Getting a brainwave, Jade tells Kyle they need to head to the scene of the speech so Kyle can practice properly.
Dial- A- Kyle HQ
Jade gives Kyle a nudge to the platform that's already been set up, complete with microphone, and tells him to deliver his speech. She tries to be really encouraging with him but Kyle goes pale and starts to have horrid daydreams of the crowd (which includes Kate and Lucas) laughing uproariously at him. Giving up, Kyle jumps off the platform and rips down some promo posters - the launch is off.
Third Commercial Break
Jade attempts to soothe Kyle's concerns while he rips down more posters.
JADE: You can't let it get to you like this. It's all about having a positive attitude. If you believe you can do it, you will.
KYLE: Can you not talk to me in bumper stickers?
Lou approaches them and Jade leaves the guys to talk. Lou isn't impressed with Kyle's talk about calling off the launch and tells him that he owes him $1000 - that's how much the launch has cost him. Kyle still isn't cooperating so Lou gets quite serious and sinister with him.
LOU: If I have to pull the plug on this I'll pull the plug on the whole deal.
LOU: You heard me. Unless you go down there tomorrow and make that speech, I will turn off the cash tap and your business won't exist.
KYLE: You can't do that.
LOU: It's as good as done. Ball's in your court.
(Tomorrow on Neighbours)
MAL: Everything alright?
KARL: Look it's not the first time your mother and I...
MAL: Libby said you guys have been having some issues.
KARL: Libby's exaggerating.
(Karl has another run- in with Rhys Lawson about Jim)
KARL: He's not going to let this go.
SUSAN: Karl he's your junior.
KARL: I hate that you put me in this position.
(Kate tries to talk Kyle around about the speech - it seems to work)
(Jade feels jealous that Kate could help Kyle when she couldn't)
