Number 26
Miranda wants to know from Nicola why Riley means by warning her against trusting her in the note he left. Nicola tells Miranda that Riley had a thing for her and made a pass at her the night he left, which she refuses to believe, so Nicola turns on the water works and blurts out that their parents only conceived her to keep her alive.

MIRANDA: Mum and dad didn't have you just to provide me with a bone marrow donor.

Nicola isn't listening and goes to get her things from the table before walking out but Miranda catches her to say that having leukaemia wasn't fun and their parents never stopped showering her with love.

NICOLA: Of course because I saved the golden girl.
MIRANDA: If anyone was the favourite you were, they spoilt you, they still do.
NICOLA: Everything they do for me they do out of guilt.
MIRANDA: Oh and haven't you made the most of it? You never hesitate to take their money or anything else that is going well it's not going to work, I blame you for Riley going away.
NICOLA: Me? He comes onto me, he runs away and it's my fault? If I'm so selfish why did I try to hide the letter to protect him?
MIRANDA: Nicola.
NICOLA: That's right because its all about you isn't it especially when little sister Nicky needs some help? (Pause) And you know what - you know why you never found anything good in me? 'Cos you never cared to look

A very teary Nicola then leaves the house.

The General Store
Marco proposes to Carmella that they spend the night in - he stood up to his dad and is taking the night off to be with her. Carmella is now very happy, so much that once he leaves, she goes to return the money she pilfered from the till but Marco catches her and asks what she is doing.

Number 30
Toadie is fretting that he's got everything ready for Dia coming as Susan and Karl come by. They tell him to relax and offer to drive him to the airport so he gets there in one piece to pick the lad up. Toadie leaves to get a welcome banner and balloons and Susan comments to Karl:

SUSAN: He's going to teach that kid how to burp and talk at the same time, isn't he?

The General Store
Marco can't believe that Carmella is the thief and twigs he blamed Sienna for it too. She apologises to him and agrees with his suggestion of going to talk to someone about it now that it is out in the open.

Melbourne airport
No, we're not here to film Miriam arriving in Australia, rather to see Toadie wait for Dia to come off a BonzAir plane. Surprisingly, Steph and Charlie arrive too just as the passengers begin filter into the arrivals hall. Toadie gets his hopes up when a little lad appears but bypasses him to go hug some random extra. The passengers keep filtering off the plane but not the lad Toadie is expecting and eventually the cabin crew appear. Karl suggests that the captain is showing him the cockpit when his phone rings - its Sam telling him that Dia hasn't been allowed to leave East Timor because they discovered the "irregularities" aka lies in Toadie's application form.

Number 30
Toadie is trying to talk to someone at the immigration department about the adoption/Dia but they refuse to help due to the lies he made in his application form. Annoyed at himself, and for wasting Karl and Susan's time, he tells them to go home but Susan volunteers Karl stay to keep him company.

Charlie's
Steph hands Ty a note from Donna that he isn't glad to receive so much so he chucks it straight into the bin.

Carmella arrives but before she says a word, Steph tells her that the night out is off because she now has to work but after spotting Marco (who is brooding at a table), can see that she's found an alternative and sends Carmella over promising to take some menus over.

Carmella admits to him that she is addicted to shopping but was afraid to tell him because it's pathetic and she was embarrassed. He asks if she's always had it and she replies no because she's never been under this amount of stress before.

MARCO: So stealing and shopping help you deal with stress?

Carmella can't make her mind up between a yes and a no but rejects that it is some sort of breakdown. Marco scoffs at her definition of stress (leaving her old life behind and becoming a mum) bearing in mind he works 16 hour days 7 days a week and that he can't talk to her about it.

CARMELLA: I was afraid you wouldn't get it. Guess I was right.
MARCO: You've lied to me, steal from a business I'm only just keeping afloat and then you tell me the life I'm offering you is worse than prison? I mean at what time can I judge you?

Carmella doesn't like that and storms out of the pub.

Number 26
Steve sees the letter and wonders what Riley meant in his letter and is surprised at how Nicola turned on her and asks if she knew Nicola resented her. Miranda replies that she didn't know and wonders if she is self-obsessed but Steve dismisses that notion, replying that it's Nicola who is the drama queen. He also tells her that Nicola has been cut off by their mum because she is standing by him and murder conviction.

Number 30
Karl is impressed at Toadie's Timorese curry dish but is glad to get reinforcements when he answers the door to let Steph in. However Toadie isn't impressed and less so at Steph for bringing Bob around to see him and wonders when people are going to take the adoption seriously. Karl replies that everyone has been very supportive of him.

TOADIE: Is that what you call it? The truth is you never thought I was ready for fatherhood. You're probably happy that this has fallen through.
STEPH: Oh no that's not fair.
TOADIE: A lot of things aren't fair Steph.
STEPH: You wanted to be taken seriously then maybe you shouldn't have lied on the application form.

Toadie has to concede that point and asks to be left on his own, so the two of them bail out.

Number 26 (next day)
The atmosphere is very frosty when Nicola comes through to get breakfast (Miranda departs not even talking to her sister) and Steve tells her that she should have handed over the letter. Nicola says that she plans on heading back to Sydney but he tells her to stay and sort it out with Miranda especially if he is sent to jail. He adds that she can't blame her for what happened when they were kids and asks that she looks after Miranda for her.

Lassiter's Complex
Steph asks if Karl and Susan have seen Toadie today, they haven't and he ignored them calling round. Karl tells her that Toadie didn't mean what he said last night but she thinks he did and admits that she would have found it hard watching Toadie bring up a child without her being part of it.

KARL: Yeah, I know how that feels. When Susan started making a new life with Alex and the kids, of course, I was happy for her, but it broke my heart.
STEPH: How'd you cope?
KARL: Well, after some pretty pathetic moping around, I picked myself up and tried to get happy.
STEPH: (to Susan) So, how did you feel about Karl after you lost Alex?
SUSAN: Ah, well, it was hard. It was complicated, but I can honestly say, I never needed anyone more in my life.

Cue gushing from Karl and Susan as they look into each others eyes.

Ramsay Street
Steph finds Toadie unloading groceries and both apologise for what they said to the other.

TOADIE: We both said some stuff we didn't mean so let's call it quits?
STEPH: Friends?
TOADIE: Friends.

Toadie then tells her that although the adoption fell through, he's made arrangements to send the lad money regularly so that his future is secure.

As Steph is helping carry the groceries in, she notices that the bags are all full of frozen pizza and not a sign of anything green!

TOADIE: Wrong, there is green on the fish finger packet. That's because it's from "the ocean".

Number 30 backyard
Toadie admires the play centre that has just been delivered and ponders the child not playing on it.

Charlie's
Steph reassures Carmella that how she is feeling is normal and tells her to go home and tell Marco how she is feeling. "That's if he isn't doing one of his two jobs" she replies. Free spirit Sienna's arrival isn't welcomed but Carmella does a 360 and decides she is having a night out on the tiles instead of going home.

Number 24 (next day)
Carmella has been a dirty stop out and stayed out all night and tries to creep quietly into #24 but Marco (and Chloe) are up because the little lady has been crying all night for her mum. To say Marco isn't amused would be the understatement of the eppy but Carmella doesn't regret going out.

MARCO: You hate being a mum right? I'm beginning to understand.
CARMELLA: No you don't understand it.
MARCO: Then make me.

Carmella doesn't reply so he asks her to let him know what he can do to make her happy again but she doesn't know what that is.

CARMELLA: All I know is that you're working two full-time jobs and I'm looking after Chloe 24/7. Neither of us is supporting each other the way that we need it.

MARCO: And that's my fault?! The only way we're staying afloat is by me working all day, every day. It's not forever but it's the way it has to be for now.
CARMELLA: Well meanwhile our life is disappearing. We can't go on like this.
