- Frazer assuring Rosie that he's got a handle on Ringo
- Toadie lying to Steph about his panic attacks
- Toadie suffering an attack and calling Steph
Steph rushes in and finds Toadie struggling to breathe. She wants to call an ambulance, but Toadie stops her, so she just encourages him to take deep breaths and try and calm down.
Arriving home, Toadie berates himself for crumbling under pressure and says that he's going to stuff up Susan's defence and she'll end up going to jail. Steph tells Toadie that he should just walk away for the sake of his health, but Toadie won't comply.
Frazer's surprised to find Ringo lifting weights – he didn't think he was home yet after walking off in a strop earlier. Admitting that he's worried and scared for his brother, Frazer asks him to talk to a professional about his problems. He suggests Mr Fitzgerald, but Ringo balks at the thought and puts on a sincere voice to try and convince Frazer otherwise.
RINGO: I don't need some stranger. I need you, okay?
Bridget's on the phone in the lounge room making plans to see a movie with someone. She's very giggly and girly, which is unusual... I'm thinking she's chatting to Hot Josh rather than Declan? Or am I just putting myself in her place...
In the fortress of solitude aka the kitchen, Miranda is re-reading her statement for court to Steve and Riley, but doesn't sound entirely convinced anymore. She wrote about how Bridget's life was changed forever after the accident, but listening to Bridget now she sounds quite normal. Riley is having none of this, however, and reminds his mum that justice should be served to Susan no matter what.
Frazer and Rosie meet up with Daniel “call me Fitzy” Fitzgerald (I think I'll stick to Dan), to talk about Ringo. Frazer apologizes for getting narky with him previously, and fills Dan in on the extent of Ringo's eating disorder. Dan says he's happy to help, but only if Ringo feels comfortable about doing so. He gives them his business card and says to call him when Ringo's ready. After he leaves, Rosie wonders how Frazer is going to convince his brother. Frazer doesn't look too sure.
Steph finds Toadie sitting up late watching the telly. Wrapping him in a cuddle, Steph wonders if Rosie can step in and take Toadie's place. But Toadie says that the court will eat her alive, and that she's already done everything she can for him. He's the only one who can solve things now.
Number 30 – Next Morning
Rosie and Carmella are having a tea and a chat. Rosie thinks that Carmella needs to get away for a few days – and wouldn't you know it, Marco suddenly arrives at the door with keys to his parents' farm house.
(Rosie jumps and claps excitedly at her plan)
CARMELLA: I haven't packed.
(Frazer appears with a bag)
FRAZER: Anything else?
CARMELLA: (wary) You packed for me?
FRAZER: Aw, come on, Cammy. It's not like I haven't seen your undies before.
FRAZER: Even ironed ‘em for you.
ROSIE: He is kidding. I packed but I only packed one bag – what's that?
Frazer has packed an extra one for Rosie so she can take some time out too. Rosie doesn't think she should leave Toadie, but Frazer reminds her that Toad gave her time off and he won't accept anymore help from her anyway. Carmella laughs at her sister getting a taste of her own medicine while Marco gives her some directions to the house.
CARMELLA: (to Rosie) Are you coming?
ROSIE: Well I guess I can spare one night... (gleeful) I'M DRIVING!
Rosie and Carmella race out the door while Frazer and Marco high five one another.
Toadie has met with Cynthia to ask for an adjournment, but she's not playing along. Her boss wants to make an example of the Kinski case and gives Toadie a heads up: the public believes that Susan should be in jail. Cynthia tells Toadie that if he keeps pushing for an adjournment, she will have no choice but to fight back.
Karl hangs up from Libby and tells Susan that she won't be down until next week because Ben's ill. Susan, meanwhile, has been organizing a ‘to do' list for Karl (including things like an orthodontist appointment for Zeke), with the underlying message being that she might not be around when these things happen. Karl notices her getting riled up and wraps her in a cuddle, instructing her to take a breath. He says that everything will be fine.
Cut to Toadie telling Steph that the whole situation is useless. Steph reiterates that he should step back and find a replacement. But Toadie says there's not enough time, and besides, if she were in his shoes she wouldn't walk away either. Upset, Steph replies that he's no good to her if he has a heart attack, so Toadie tries to tell her that he's fine (but neither of them appear convinced).
Ringo arrives home to find his mum sitting in the kitchen – Frazer rang her and told her everything. Ringo's royally jacked off, but Prue says that Frazer did the right thing.
RINGO: Just get out of my face.
PRUE: Oh, is that city-speak for ‘would you like another cup of tea, mum'?
Conceding, Ringo admits that he's had a hard time of late but that he's got a handle on everything now. But Prue doesn't think that purging or taking appetite suppressants is having a “handle” on things. Blunt, she asks Ringo whether he's suffering from anorexia or bulimia. His anger rising once more, Ringo takes it out on Frazer and says that if he wants him out of the house he'll go. But Prue reveals that she's the one who wants to take him home – Frazer wants him to stay.
FRAZER: Ringo, we're scared, mate. People die from this.
Giving him a choice, Prue says that Ringo can either come home with her or get help here. Ringo promises that he'll call Mr Fitzgerald in the morning, but Frazer hands him the phone and says to call him now.
Marco's Farm House
Rosie and Carmella arrive at the Silvani farm house – and when I say farm house I mean HUGE mansion plonked in the middle of some land. I think they breed peacocks and rare tigers it's that lavish. Rosie teases her sister and says that this could be hers as well if she gets her act together with Marco.
Inside, Rosie looks for some wine and comes across a box full of happy snaps of Marco. Carmella acts appalled at Rosie's snooping at first, but can't resist when Marco's baby pics crop up.
Steph tells Karl and Susan about Toadie's panic attacks because she's worried for him. Susan figures out that Steph wants her to have a word to Toadie to try and convince him to slow down. Steph nods; she didn't know any other way to get through to him. Did you try pizza, Steph?
Marco's Exotic “Farm House”
Rosie reads out Marco's Year 7 report, which includes the words “reliable”, “imaginative” and “compassionate”. Did it also include “married”? Because the very next thing Rosie stumbles across is Marco's wedding pictures. She tries to hide them from Carmella but fails. Rosie quietly says that he would have to be separated now, but Carmella doesn't look too sure.
Valda and Steph try to encourage Toadie to take a break and give Charlie a bath, but Toadie is too engrossed in one of his law books. Just then, Susan and Karl arrive and Susan asks Toadie to throw the case in. Toadie is angry that Steph has gone behind his back, but Susan says that Steph loves him and is just worried.
TOADIE: I don't want to let you down.
SUSAN: Oh, how could you let me down? How could I ever be anything but proud of you? I will be fine, Toadie. Please just walk away from it.
TOADIE: I can't. I just can't.
Marco's Exotic “Farm House”
Rosie suggests that Carmella ring Marco, but Carmella scoffs all, “Oh sure, yeah hey Marco. I was, like, snooping through your things and found out you were married! What's all that about, hmm?” She doesn't think that it's any of her business, and firmly states that she's his business partner – nothing else.
ROSIE: You're not fooling anyone, Carm.
Number 32 – Next Morning
Toadie is sitting on the couch in a trance. Valda tells Steph that they're going to be late for court, but Steph says to just give Toadie some space.
Susan walks out in her formal gear, white as a sheet.
KARL: (comforting) You look nice.
SUSAN: I feel like I'm dreaming. None of it seems real.
KARL: Yeah I know.
SUSAN: I'm so scared.
Zeke walks out in his suit and the three of them share a hug before heading off.
Toadie gets a sudden idea – if he doesn't turn up for court then they'll have no choice but to adjourn, so he just won't go! Steph panics as Toadie starts to strip off his jacket and tie.
STEPH: What about your future in court, Toad? Your reputation?
TOADIE: (nonchalant) Dead in the water I'd say. Isn't this what you wanted? For me to walk away?
STEPH: No, not like this.
TOADIE: Steph, if it's a choice between Susan and my career, well there's not even a choice.
Steph instructs Valda to take Charlie to childcare and head off to court while she tries to talk some sense into Toadie.
