Recap
Harold telling Karl he's changing to another GP.
Frazer telling Rosetta he couldn't help that Pepper fell in love with him.
Susan telling Karl that Sky has withdrawn her complaint; Karl telling Susan that he's quitting medicine for good.
Zeke realising that Guy broke into number 30; Guy reaching for a screwdriver in his back pocket.
The House without Ned
Guy tells Zeke that he just popped over, and Zeke claims that he locked the door. Guy wants to show Zeke something (the front end of the screwdriver presumably), but luckily for the poor kid Pepper, Rosie and Frazer return home. Frazer realises that Zeke is freaked out, but Guy says he only came over to offer Zeke a ride to the hospital to see his sister. Guy leaves, and Rosie tells Zeke to relax, maaaan.
Number 28
Susie wishes that Karl had spoken to her before he'd decided to quit his job. But Karl maintains that he doesn't want to be a doctor anymore, and that the decision was ultimately his.
KARL: I just don't have the passion for it anymore.
SUSAN: Oh of course you do!
KARL: Sky was right. I made moral judgements about her. That shows a disrespect for my patients and for my own profession.
SUSAN: It was a one off!
KARL: No, no! It was a warning! It was a sign that it's time to move on, that's all. I don't want to end up like one of those jaded old codgers that I had to work under.
SUSAN: Oh, Karl...
KARL: This is the right decision for me. I'd appreciate your support.
The House without Ned that is Rejoicing
Rosie dumps Johnny over the phone. Her mum gave him her mobile number so that they could meet up again, and Rosie's furious (her mum had arranged a marriage with him...!). Pepper thinks that maybe she should go out with him - what if he turns out to be The One?
Frazer is eavesdropping, and Pepper catches him out. He suggests that if Rosie wants romance... (/cue unattractive Frazer RomanceFace™) Pepper notes he's still keen - nothing gets past her, does it? Rosetta wants to meet someone with more class, and who should knock at the door but Paul.
It's like there's nothing you can do to stop it. (/sigh)
He apologises for bothering her at home, and asks about the pre-nup. Rosie is so taken, she can't think where she left it, and giggles instead, and offers to meet him at 2pm to hand it over.
PEPPER: You are so busted!
Number 28
Zeke is telling Bree and Rachel that he knows he locked the door, but they're too interested in clothes.
RACH: Should I take the pink or the brown?
BREE: Why are you asking? You're just going to end up taking both.
RACH: Yeah, but I think brown's more Shepparton.
I didn't know Shepparton had, like, colours, like.
The girls tell Zeke to let it go - Guy isn't a psycho freak. Zeke reckons that Guy stole the cars, and whilst Rach denies it, Bree thinks it may be true...the thefts started happening when she hung out with Guy. Rach gets all stroppy and declares that Ned is the bad guy (well, we *all* know that) - but she means bad in terms of dumping K for Carmella as soon as she was in hospital.
Zeke tells Rachel that he can't see past him because she's got the hots for Guy.
RACH: Shut up Zeke!
ZEKE: Good comeback, Rachel.
Zeke tells Bree he will try and get Katya off the hook by proving Guy's guilty.
The Scarlet Bar where we find CampLou™ and HappySteiger™
Lou is dressed up all camp, ready for his interview as a flight attendant. Harry thinks he's stereotyping all male flight attendants, but Lou retorts that he needs a 'companion' to accompany him - and who better than the man he lives with?! Harry refuses to go.
LOU: Oh, come on duckie. Where's your plucky?
Pepper and Frazer were playing pool, but as Steiger comes in, Frazer legs it - very amusingly! It has to be seen to be explained! Steiger tells his daughter he hates to see her fraternising with losers - then wants to know why she wanted to see him.
PEPPER: I've just been thinking and I reckon that when you're happy, I'm happy. And I wanna be happy. So I wanna make sure you're happy.
STEIGER: I'm happy. Look at me. I'm a happy guy.
I *heart* Steiger!
PEPPER: No, it's just, ever since you got divorced, my life has been a mess. It's like the cosmic order's unbalanced or something...things aren't gonna be right until we fix them.
STEIGER: Do I have to do anything?
She invites her dad to dinner on Monday - just the two of them.
PEPPER: I'm so happy!
STEIGER: Well, if you're happy, I'm happy!
I LOVE him.
Pepper calls her mum - can she make dinner on Monday night? Just the two of them?!
The Hospital where we're Quoting Tom Cruise
Guy tells Bree the number 30 story, and explains that Zeke is a scaredy cat. Bree says he's not - and pointedly remarks that he's a very good judge of character. Zeke watches from outside the room, and Guy continues to explain to Bree that he's trying to clear Katya's name, and he's glad Zeke is taking out his anger on him because he can take it.
Bree spots Zeke, and goes outside to see him.
BREE: What are you doing?
ZEKE: I can't leave him alone with Katya, can I?
BREE: What's he gonna do, she's already in a coma.
Cut back to the room where Guy tells Katya that he needs to know where the hundred grand is. Katya clenches her fist, and Guy realises she can hear him. He demands she wake up and do a Jerry Maguire. Or little baby brother's gonna get it.
A Road
A lollipop lady remarkably looking like Loris and Rosie all at once stands in the road to let some kids cross. Frazer, on his mobile, crosses behind her, not at the crossing.
Steiger pulls up in his car and approaches Frazer.
STEIGER: As you're no doubt aware, crossing without authorisation is an offence. So I'm issuing you with a $75 ticket.
FRAZER: That's not necessary - Pepper and I have sorted everything out.
STEIGER: Nothing personal, Fiona. I'm just doing my job.
Frazer thinks this is harassment, but Steiger denies it, threatening Fiona with coming down to the station. Frazer gives up.
STEIGER: Now on your way before I book you for loitering.
Number 28
The Kennedy family and Bree are sitting round the table having tea, and Zeke is stuffing his face. He wants to get back to the hospital to see his sister. He didn't want to come to the stupid afternoon tea, anyway. Susan reminds him that Rachel is going away for a few weeks, so this is to say goodbye. Rach wonders if maybe she shouldn't be going, but Susan reminds her that Libby has promised to bring her home if anything happens. Rachel wants reassurance that Karl will take care of Katya at hospital, so Karl realises he has to tell the kids that he's quite him job. No notice period or anything.
ZEKE: What are you going to do?
BREE: And how are you going to survive on a teacher's wage?
KARL: I will be getting another job! It just won't be involving medicine that's all.
ZEKE: You won't be doing music, will you.
Karl gets up to help Rachel with her bags so she gets to Shepparton on time. Rachel and Susan exchange looks.
The Law Office where there May Be a Spark
Rosie is showing Paul where to sign for the pre-nup, and they're standing awfully close. Rosie's phone rings, and she declines to answer it - her ex-fiance is chasing hard to see her, and she doesn't know what to do. Paul asks if she likes him. Rosie replies that she knows he's not the one, although he is sweet, but they just don't have that spark. Paul understands, and Rosie nervously comments that Lyn and Paul have that spark. They both don't really know what to say, so Paul takes the pre nup and leaves. Rosie calls Johnny.
Rosetta is such a great new addition. She's sparky, humorous, and most importantly, Natalie Saleeba can act, dammit!
The Scarlet Bar where it's All About Love, Actually
Pep can't believe that Frazer employed Rosie as his lawyer to win her over.
PEPPER: Are you even interested in Rosie as a person, or is this just about winning the prize?
FRAZER: This is love, okay?
PEPPER: Is it? Looks like you're obsessed.
Pepper wonders if Frazer knew Rosetta was living there before they moved in, that he was obsessed with her ages ago? He denies it. Vehemently. *Then* he fell in love. Oooh - could Pepper help him?
FRAZER: Help me help *me*.
PEPPER: Just back off a little. And be better. She set some really high standards for her first, and you're clearly not meeting any of them.
Frazer realises that Rosie has never had a boyfriend before, and now it all makes perfect sense to him. Then he sees a man entering the bar, and he legs it out the bar before he's seen.
BonzAir Offices where Harry is a Needed Friend
Lou and Harold are waiting for Lou's interview, in a room of young pretty, twenty somethings. Lou is called in for his interview, and is immediately turned down. This riles Harry, who thinks that this is blatant discrimination, and Lou deserves to be taken seriously! (Although quite frankly, not in that orange scarf he doesn't. Is it one of Susan's?) The interviewer concedes to see Lou.
The Law Office where Rosetta is a Needed Lawyer
Lou and Harry are telling Rosie the story of the interview. She thinks he has a case - if he can get a witness to the fact that the interviewer made the pacemaker comment. (Surely Harry hearing it was enough - he's the witness??) Rosie says she can't take the case on without Toadie's agreement, but Harry remarks that he can't see Tim Collins objecting to a high profile case which gives his company more media coverage...
Ooooh, Harry - you sly old dog!
The Scarlet Bar where the continuity is Odd
The man Frazer ran from earlier is still at the bar, and Rosie flies in, hugs him, and apologises for being late. Frazer is still hiding behind the door. Johnny tells her that he really likes her, and he wants to give them a go off their own backs, this time. Rosie doesn't want to, and Pepper makes faces at Johnny to try harder! Johnny tells her that if she ever feels like having a slag off session about the folks, to give him a call!
At the back of the bar, Frazer, runs in, and out through the main door; Pepper yells after him, telling him it's his shout. Which is a continuity oddity: Pepper believed before that he'd left the bar, and now he's running back in and out, why on earth would she think he was buying a round?? Surely she'd shout "are you still here" or "where are you going"?
Johnny sees Frazer and calls out 'George' - he thinks he's just seen his brother, who he hasn't seen for years. He thought he was in prison, or dead. But he must have been wrong. Rosie comments she'd like to meet him, but Johnny assures her he's someone she wouldn't want to get mixed up with.
The Surgery where It's Still 1996
Karl removes his name plate from the door. Susan thinks that maybe this could be construed as him running away, but Karl defends himself.
KARL: I am happy with every aspect of my life, except my work. I love being with you - again, I love being with the kids, and I want to make the most of that.
Karl spots Harry coming in, who comments that he hopes their recent conflict hasn't influenced this. He claims he would have come back to Karl as a patient, but he wanted to protect Sky. Susan doesn't look like she believes him. Karl says he understands.
HARRY: But this - you're, you're a good doctor.
SUSAN: Yes. Yes he is.
How the worm turns.
Karl says he wants to remember his time in this profession with pride, and there are now other things to do - and he's excited to find these out. Harry wishes him all the best, shakes his hand and leaves. Susan tells Karl that the sooner they can get him out of here, the sooner they can find something that will make him happy.
Karl stands and looks at her, opens his arms and calls her over. He thanks her, she whispers 'okay' and they kiss. How very 4384. They fall into a 1996-style hug.
Ramsay Street where Steiger Rocks
Steiger waits outside the Kennedys', in the dark. Bree approaches.
BREE: Whatever you think we've done, we haven't, and if we did, we'd deny it.
Steiger tells her he's waiting for the Ks, who conveniently drive up. Steiger needs a complete list of all the people Katya has associated with recently. Susan lists the family, the RSRs, people she works with - and Bree adds Guy.
SUSAN: He's hardly out of the ordinary.
STEIGER: Who's Guy?
KARL: Guy Sykes, an old associate of Katya's. Seems like a very nice fellow.
BREE: Zeke hates him.
Bree shows Steiger a photo on her phone of Guy, and Steiger is worried - he thinks he may be a nasty piece of work he's known for a while. Bree adds that Zeke thinks Guy broke into number 30, and that he's now following Guy...
Karl and Susan are horrified.
The Hospital where events are Just Shocking
Guy is in Katya's room, wheeling over the defibrillators. Zeke watches him through the window. Guy tells Katya she needs some encouragement, and picks up one of the defib paddles. Zeke bursts in, demanding to know what Guy is doing, and Guy tells Zeke that his sister is waking up. He tries to lure Zeke over, one paddle in his hand, but Zeke - thankfully - refuses to go any nearer.
Katya reaches up from her coma - yes, you heard that right - and with non-comatose eye-limb co-ordination and accuracy, she deftly grabs the remaining paddle and zaps Guy in the back before collapsing back in her bed.
Even her hair looks good.
