Des becomes alarmed when Joe fails to resurface. He gets into the river and does a few duck dives. On the third dive he finds Joe and tows him, unconscious, to the bank. He's about to resuscitate him when Joe coughs and comes to. Joe is confused and says he must have hit his head and got tangled up in something. He says in wonder that Des has saved his life. Des says he'd better go to the hospital to be checked out. Joe tells Des that he's got over his fear of water and Des nods in surprise - his fear of water hadn't occurred to him during the rescue!
Jenny is making popcorn but accidentally upsets the pan and it spills on to the floor. Mike comes in and finds her in tears - she says she's useless. Mike reassures her and says she'll be able to do more and more things as time goes by. He cleans up the spilt popcorn. Jenny suddenly says that she doesn't know what she'd do without him - he helps her so much.
Glenn comes in looking for Jane but she's not there. Just then Kerry comes in. They flirt a bit and make an arrangement to have a picnic by the lake later. Jane comes in and Glenn asks her how Joe is after her flight. When Glenn has gone, Jane is surprised to hear that Kerry is meeting Glenn later. She says that Joe wouldn't like it, but Kerry says she's a free agent - she and Joe haven't made any commitments to each other.
Joe has been checked out at the hospital and he's OK. He tells Des he thought he was going to die and it's really rocked him. He says he won't forget what Des did - he says Des is a hero and he owes him his life. He's going to stick to him like glue until he can pay him back! He puts his arm around Des much to Des's alarm!
Katie is revising her geography and Todd is moaning that they haven't got a pool - he's too hot. Helen suggests asking Mr Bishop if he can use his pool.
A man from the Erinsborough News comes to see Katie with a surfboard - Katie has won the funny photo competition with the photo of Mrs Burke and Hilary! Todd and Katie bicker over who really won - Todd was the one who actually took the photo.
Kerry and Glenn are having their picnic and chatting amiably about travel. Kerry says she can't bear the thought of being tied down, relationships should be fun with no strings attached. Glenn thinks they have a lot of things in common. He suggests that he pay her back for the picnic with supper at his place this evening. Kerry says it sounds lovely.
Des is telling Jenny and Mike what happened at the river. He's worried that Joe will be stalking him(!) Mike says he's dropped the price of the bike and Jenny is surprised to hear he's selling it. She says he shouldn't get rid of it because of her. Mike says he needs a car instead of a bike anyway.
Jane is telling Joe off for drinking beer because he might be concussed but Joe says he's getting everything he can out of life from now on(!) Jane tells him that Kerry is concerned about him too and will be round after her picnic. There's a knock at the door and it's Kerry herself - they bicker amiably about what happened. Kerry says that Glenn is impressed with him getting over his fear of flying. Joe realises that Kerry was on a picnic with Glenn and gets very cross, telling her she's two-timing him. Kerry says that she told him from the start that she's not the type to be tied down. Joe is cross but Kerry becomes crosser and says that noone owns her and if he's going to be jealous they'd better call it quits. She storms out.
Jenny has gone to the bathroom and while she's there, Des and Mike have a chat. Mike is still feeling guilty about the accident. Des says he's going to see what's going on with Henry and Bronwyn at Paul and Gail's place.
Joe is depressed and Jane says that she agrees with him, but Kerry has a very different point of view. Jane says maybe its best that they've broken up now since they're so different - it might not have worked out in the long run. Joe says it was easy with Kerry - they understood each other, each other's kids and their ways. He says he hasn't felt this way about anyone since Nolene - he doesn't know what to do.

Todd is going to wax the surfboard, but Katie says it's her board. They argue and the surfboard gets broken against the wall. Helen is very cross.
Jenny is crying and doesn't want to see the end of the romantic movie. She says she'll never have a happy ending now - noone will look twice at her now. Mike tries to reassure her. Jenny says that Mike hasn't kissed her since the accident. So Mike leans over and kisses her. Jenny is delighted and says that Mike really does love her then. They hug, but Mike looks troubled.
